@TheVampiresWife

I am seriously not convinced - until the well-fed lady sings…

We are the world’s Petri dish - with Boris in charge! What could go wrong?!

Againstmachine · 13/07/2021 21:04

please link me to the overwhelming body of peer researched, large scale studies, and professors worldwide who say - Covid is mild and we do not need masks or restrictions.

Chris whitty said covid is mild for most, that is a fact if it wasn't mild for most society would have shut down.

I'm not sure if you are just trying to be obtuse.

Majority of science says covid Is mild for most.

Link me to a study that says it isn't mild to most.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/07/2021 21:11

according to WHO Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2021 21:11

Mild for most is different to mild for everyone and no restrictions needed

Chris Whitty said mild for most

Googled

‘In terms of eliminating from the UK, this is a disease which has got, for most people who have it, mild symptoms or in some cases no symptoms’

MarshaBradyo · 13/07/2021 21:13

We still needed restrictions and vaccines though as it can still overwhelm health care

Againstmachine · 13/07/2021 21:17

*Mild for most is different to mild for everyone and no restrictions needed"

Yep but I think undercovertoad is wanting worst case scenarios

Blueberry40 · 13/07/2021 21:20

Yes. Anyone who is able to wear a mask and gives a shit about vulnerable people will carry on wearing one.

Againstmachine · 13/07/2021 21:23

After all this time stop with this, if you want to protect go ahead, but stop with the guilt.

Wizzbangfizz · 13/07/2021 21:26

No I won't be and I think others will continue to wear them for a couple Of weeks as they will fear judgement so will continue with the theatre a while longer but by seeing more and more people just going about life as normal will then discard them.

No issue with people who want to wear one though, but expect it to be 10/20% of population - certainly not the 70% of people polled by yougov.

Exactly most people won't wear, you gov can Pol all they want what actually happens is as above.

@FreekStar2

It's already started. Somebody asked me at work today if I was still going to wear my mask next week? When I said no they looked at me in that judgemental way that says they think I should and then went on to say that they hoped everyone would still wear them in the supermarket as well.

I think people who are worried about exposure need to shop online and let everyone else resume their normal lives. There's no end insight to this virus, it will become endemic like ordinary flu, we need to accept that some will catch it and die like people have for centuries from flu. There are vaccines, the vulnerable are protected.

Like my friend's mother in law who has had both jabs but has been tested and has produced no antibodies? So her choice now is to completely ignore any risk or to return to shielding.
Downtown36 · 13/07/2021 22:12

I certainly don't want to.

But it seems that some places will still ask people to wear them - had an email today from my local nail lady who says she will require it in the salon. I'm so disappointed, am sure others will follow and I think that's what the government wanted.

Yes. Anyone who is able to wear a mask and gives a shit about vulnerable people will carry on wearing one.

So wearing a mask is a type of virtue signalling then?

Plus “able to wear one” is a continuum. For example, I’ve been avoiding going for a smear test as there is absolutely no way I can cope with doing this with my nose and mouth covered.

MummyPop00 · 13/07/2021 22:22

No, I can’t wait to take the thing off

sulee · 13/07/2021 22:30

I’ll be voting with my feet too. No masks, no custom from me.
.

FreekStar2 · 13/07/2021 22:35

@sulee I don't think they'll care! Abolishing masks will bring more custom than they'll lose from the likes of you because the group ditching their masks will be far larger!

MercyBooth · 13/07/2021 22:43

As a social housing campaigner i was giving a shit about vulnerable people before Covid made it fashionable. Both online and in RL.

Back in the dark historical days of pre Covid though it got me trolled so badly by another site (some posters were using this site and that one) that i finally decided to change user name on here last year. The latter website now has great long threads about Covid though. And i bet some of them are the ones crying selfish over masks.

MercyBooth · 13/07/2021 22:45

@HainaultViaNewburyPark During a discussion about that on another thread i got told........perhaps you are wearing it over the wrong lips. Hmm

MercyBooth · 13/07/2021 22:46

I think this will have the opposite affect on the vaccine uptake that they want. Its dropping amongst 18 to 24 year old males They see nothing changing

Blueberry40 · 13/07/2021 22:49

If you want to see it as virtue signalling then feel free. I just see it as being a half decent human who cares more about protecting vulnerable people than the inconvenience of having to wear a bit of cloth over my face.

I really don’t understand why it’s such a big deal to do this if it potentially means not accidentally killing someone or making them extremely ill.

MercyBooth · 13/07/2021 22:51

Pity there wasnt such concern pre Grenfell 72 people might still be alive.

FreekStar2 · 13/07/2021 22:52

There have always been vulnerable people. If you are vulnerable to Covid, you were vulnerable before it to lots of other viruses. Funny how we didn't have to protect people before, they protected themselves.

We can't expect people to wear masks to protect others; we wore masks to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed, not to protect the vulnerable.

I will not wear a mask just because some people want to use it as a virtue signal and yardstick to measure others by.

Or maybe those who don't want to wear a mask could shop online, so the retail staff aren't put at additional risk if their employers decide to not prioritize their safety?
