How about we reintroduce smoking in all places without spearate areas? Shops, offices, clubs, gyms, cafes, transport......
treedragon · 19/07/2021 19:26

@Againstmachine

ONe thing that will really naff me off is catching coviude from and irresponsible co-work with a penchant for irresponsible gallivant about to places like pubs, night clubs, cafes, aircraft etc. All of which are giant Covid petri dishes.

Imagine wanting to police where your work colleagues go, how much power do people want over other people's life's, it's getting scary.

It's no diferent to smoking in the workplace.
Againstmachine · 19/07/2021 19:29

You are talking rubbish and you know it, but you want all your colleagues to stay at home so your opinion is kind of worthless.

I've not said that. I have said that I want them to respect my space and wear a mask near me. Unless they would be quite happy for me to smoke around them. Which is unpleasant, inconsiderate and also potentially health hazardous. As is the spread of Covid.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/07/2021 19:34

It is different to smoking in the workplace because not everyone has Covid so aren't necessarily spreading it.

Another poster is fond of smoking analogies, too. Almost word for word Hmm

Anyway, both of you are wrong, of course you are. There are no vaccines against passive smoking related diseases, for one thing. And as Wax points out, not everyone has covid in the way that everyone who smokes will be exhaling toxins. Smoking has a fatality rate of around 40%, unlike covid. So yes. A ridiculous comparison.

I'm so glad I don't work with you!

Againstmachine · 19/07/2021 19:45

But you are going be naffed off if they even try to enjoy their selves kind of pathetic.

It is different but the risks are as high if not higher with covid as you are much more likely to contract covid when in close proximity to an infected person for 10 minutes than you are to develop lung cancer from being near to a smoker for 10 minutes.

If community infection rates were not so high I would agree with you but when 1 in 95 people have covid the risks are quite significant.

alloalloallo · 20/07/2021 09:10

The maskless should stay in and shop online, leave the country free for the people who want to get out and about safely.

People who are exempt from mask wearing have put up with this shit for a year now.

Give it a rest for fucks sake. It’s ableist and boring.

It’s not just shopping - my daughter is exempt but she still needs to go to medical appointments, school, use the bus, go to her part time job.

CC1991 · 20/07/2021 12:48

I've just been to Costa without a mask. Most of the staff weren't wearing them either, but the customer in front of me was. It was also nice to see that the social distancing markers have been removed!

I did check in with the QR code, though, and kept my Bluetooth switched on for the covid app.

Viviennemary · 20/07/2021 12:56

Overseas I believe when there is a mask rule it applies to everyone except very small children. In the UK anybody could buy a lanyard and/or print out an exemption card. No questions asked. So no I will no longer be wearing a mask.

Noterook · 20/07/2021 12:57

I can get the mask thing, but I love social distancing markers, I hate having people come up really close, especially in this weather when most are sweaty.

Tavannach · 20/07/2021 13:50

Is there actually any decisive evidence that mask wearing is beneficial? I thought the jury was still out.

Unbelievable that after 16 months people are still spouting this crap.

Masks are effective.

An evidence review of face masks against Covid-19

I'll be wearing my mask on public transport and inside shopping centres, theatres and in crowded outside spaces.

I have just been to the gym for the second time in 18 months. I cancelled my membership during the lockdowns and signed up again about a month ago. I went once before i had a month when i wasn't able to go. At that time I had to wear a mask to walk between the machines and while walking around in the gym. It was a total pain trying to put a mask on and off just to walk 5 feet to the next piece of equipment, especially as I go mid morning so it isn't busy

Today I took a mask with me but didn't wear it. There were a couple of people wearing them but most people weren't. I was never within 6ft of anyone else except maybe walking past them for a second or so. The gym was fairly quiet, everyone was wiping down the equipment and it felt perfectly safe. It was really nice not to have to be doing constant battle with a mask as well as holding my phone, towel, water bottle etc

southeastdweller · 20/07/2021 13:58

It felt fabulous to walk around shops again today with no mask. I was also in my city centre library and most people didn’t bother wearing one either. It was about 70% in shops of customers wearing them and 50/50 of staff.

superblondie28 · 20/07/2021 14:26

I went to our Sainsbury last night about 8.30pm and didn't mask up. It was empty of customers. Most staff not wearing masks. If masks are to protect other people from me, well I don't go around the supermarket personally talking or singing or sneezing. I'm in and out quickly if I know where everything is. Don't speak to anyone. Always been this way since pre covid 🤷🏼‍♀️ usually by myself as well.

It's those people that stand talking for ages in the aisles with trolleys, blocking the way, that cause more of a issue with spreading covid without masks that will spread it.

So when busy, I will still mask up for not Smile

Most other countries have mask exemptions, too.

You cannot be exempt from a law which doesn't exist, anyway.

RolloTomassi · 21/07/2021 08:01

FFS. This should say "the maskless who enjoy being out normally will boost the bricks-and-mortar economy, the internet is always available for anyone still nervous to get out and about".

Tryouts2579 · 21/07/2021 09:23

This is all so divisive. Either masks are needed in which case they should be mandated in certain circumstances or they aren’t in which case the government should be telling people that it is safe and nobody needs to wear them.

Meanwhile I wonder what else is going on in the background when we are all fighting and insulting each other.
