Yes, because my mum wants me too. Plus I quite enjoyed not getting a cold last winter.

XenoBitch · 13/07/2021 22:59

Or maybe those who don't want to wear a mask could shop online, so the retail staff aren't put at additional risk if their employers decide to not prioritize their safety?

This was said to people who were exempt from wearing masks too... like shopping is the only thing people leave the house for.

No. I feel it is important that I should not contribute to the continuation of "normalising" this inherently abnormal behaviour. To elaborate on what I mean, think of the whole "transgender" thing, how have we ended up with biological males being able to access women's spaces? It didn't happen suddenly in one fell swoop. We didn't go straight from (say) the norms of the 1950's to this - there have been hundreds, thousands of small steps taken since the 1960's which have slowly normalised things which would (in say 1950) have been thought abominable in general society. That's the way politicians do these things, slowly, step by step. At some point, somewhere along the line, someone has to draw a line and say "No. I will not normalise this". And it just seems to me that a line has been crossed recently that I cannot live by. Let the whole world go timidly into this "new normal" if it wants to - I'm not playing.

Egghead68 · 13/07/2021 23:19

Yes FFP3.

Chimboo · 13/07/2021 23:25

No I will not. Can’t wait to be able to live without the constant fear of panic attacks brought on by having something covering my nose and mouth / fear of being verbally abused by strangers because I don’t have something covering my nose and mouth

What the fuck has mask-wearing during a pandemic got to do with transgender people?? Way to shoehorn your prejudice into a completely unrelated topic. Jesus Christ, fucking MumsNet.

Face coverings must be worn on London's transport network despite restrictions easing on 19 July, London's mayor says.
Sadiq Khan said he was not prepared to put Tube, tram and other transport users at risk by relaxing the rules on face coverings.

Good.
UndercoverToad · 14/07/2021 06:18

@Brouhahaha have you seen the MN discussion page on Reddit? @MercyBooth is on there … something to do with Eon..

Youarestillintherunning · 14/07/2021 06:20

Provably yes. It doesn't bother me wearing one, it doesn't really make a difference to my day. So if it can help, why not?

UndercoverToad · 14/07/2021 06:21

I think a shoehorn emoji is needed…

nordica · 14/07/2021 07:16

Looks like many of you will have to walk instead of take the tube in London then as you're going to be ditching your masks. Grin

UndercoverToad · 14/07/2021 07:21

@nordica

And good to see some Doctor’s surgeries enforcing the rule:

"To keep vulnerable patients and staff safe, Hillside Practice has taken the decision to ask all who attend the practice to continue to wear a face covering, adhere to social distancing and practice hand hygiene on entering the building.

"Thank you for your understanding and co-operation."

MarshaBradyo · 14/07/2021 07:32

I’m in London but never get the tube these days, and very rarely PT, but I’m fine with the rule will help with rates.

I’m wonderIng how many who don’t want to wear masks do live in London and take PT.

Good. Hopefully more will follow, employees deserve protection along with the vulnerable.

Isn't that the whole point of what the government has done, to put the onus on other people making the rules so they don't have to.
RedRiverShore · 14/07/2021 07:44

In fact Grant Shapps has just said this on BBC that different companies will make different rules

Masks haven’t been enforced on the underground anyway. I’d say about a quarter of passengers have already ditched them. What’s going to change going forward in terms of emfurcenrnt?

Stuffin · 14/07/2021 07:58

I don't mind companies making their own rules because then it gives people a choice. I will avoid places that require masks and those that want masks will choose those that still mandate them.

I hardly ever take PT but again it's a choice. We have already decided to avoid flying whilst masks are mandatory on the plane as we always upgrade and no way are we spending that kind of money to be sat masked for 8-10 hours.

Agree with this and I take the Tube almost daily. But I still think making them mandatory is better than nothing. I don't suppose we can enforce it.
itsgettingwierd · 14/07/2021 08:01

In crowded busy places - yes.

Not so much because I'm worried about me (40 and double jabbed and should get booster in autumn as ds carer) but because I don't trust others to be sensible or isolate if not double jabbed etc. I don't trust people to continue LFT or testing for symptoms.

I don't want to risk catching it (yes I know it protects others more than me but it is more protective than no mask).

I won't wear one when passing through indoor areas if I don't feel it busy etc. Won't worry about wearing one to walk through a pub/restaurant if not crowded etc.

But I'm not comfortable with going from all to nothing in 1 day whilst cases are rising as they are.

HelloMissus · 14/07/2021 08:03

Mare I’m ambivalent to be honest.
If they’re mandatory, I’ll certainly wear one on the underground whether or not there’s any enforcement.
I might even wear one if they weren’t mandatory if it helps other passengers feel safe (I’m not convinced they actually keep many folk safe given how uselessly most of us wear them - and I include myself in this).

HelloMissus · 14/07/2021 08:03

But I think mark compliance is on the wane now whatever happens.

LongCovidNotCoping · 14/07/2021 08:07

I don’t think mask wearing is all that efficient in terms of stopping the spread - but I’ll wear one in case it helps anyone.
