FYI, Stagecoach buses won't be insisting on masks on its buses in my area at least (North East). I asked the driver the other day. He also said I don't need to wear a lanyard anymore while travelling.

@TheVampiresWife I have direct experience of this as my Mum’s hospital trust was worst hit in the country by Covid. My Mum had bowel cancer - and became symptomatic/heavy blood loss in the first lockdown.

She was diagnosed in the following summer / her surgeon expressed in consultation how she was determined to stay with her cancer patients/not be pulled away as she had been in the first lockdown.

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 18:03

I doubt this happened as my Mum has only just had her final operation (June).

Againstmachine · 13/07/2021 18:05

@Againstmachine I think you are minimising. The whole world is disrupted by Covid. This is not a mild disease. It is infectious, mutating and causing hospitalisations to an extent that the NHS cannot cope.

I am not minimising it is a fact for most this is a very mild disease, are you disputing that as you be wrong, it is a mild disease for most.

and the NHS struggles every year.

NatARG · 13/07/2021 18:06

Yes- I have a newborn and want to keep her safe. Am worried about the amount of people saying no- young people are not yet vaccinated against it.

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 18:09

@Againstmachine - so why are the rest of the world in disagreement with you?

Justarandompersonontheinternet · 13/07/2021 18:11

Yes. I’ll still wear a mask. It’s not a difficult thing for me and it shows a level of courtesy towards others. Also, they’ll still be mandatory here in Scotland anyway.

woodfort · 13/07/2021 18:15

Funnily enough I was actually canvassed about this today by a small business wanting to know what they should carry on with (Covid precautions) to “make us feel safe”.

I don’t mind what they do or don’t do about capacity or hand sanitising (I’d be happy for back to normal, but it’s their business) but told them that whilst I’ll wear a mask for the rest of my life on public transport if I’m asked to (not if I’m not) I really want them to stop wearing it when I’m at activities with my young children. The woman who asked seemed quite surprised by this but thankfully the next person behind me in the queue said the same.

Following the government’s half u turn Hmm on the mask subject I will keep mine on in shops and on the tube etc but I am well and truly done wearing one when I’m trying to coax a toddler down from the slide at soft play or at a parent and child singing group.

How can I keep saying this, for the majority of people it is a very mild disease what bit don't you get. If you ask most scientists they would agree with me, even UK members of sage would agree.

I'd now say you are scaremongering as you won't accept that.

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 19:18

@Againstmachine No they don’t! It’s a worldwide pandemic! Please link me to a renowned scientist who says Covid is mild and nothing to worry about!

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 19:31

@againstmachine please link me to the overwhelming body of peer researched, large scale studies, and professors worldwide who say - Covid is mild and we do not need masks or restrictions.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/07/2021 19:48

of course it's mild for most people! Otherwise we'd have had 5 million dead in the UK.

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 19:51

@AlecTrevelyan006 that’s sorted then! Tell the rest of the world/professors worldwide ad you clearly have superior knowledge 👍

TheVampiresWife · 13/07/2021 19:53

Are people seriously denying that for the vast majority, covid presents as a mild illness?

And with vaccines, the chance of becoming seriously ill is smaller still?

TheVampiresWife · 13/07/2021 19:57

I'm so sorry about your mum. The past year must've been horrific for you Flowers

Thankfully the NHS, as an entity, has never yet been unable to cope with Covid hospitalisations, nor has it been 'overrun' as has been suggested on here. It's been very busy, and there's a huge backlog (some of which is due to ongoing restrictions) - but it was never in danger of collapse due to numbers of Covid patients. That's what lockdowns were for and they succeeded in that aim.

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 20:07

@TheVampiresWife that’s simply not true. They have been inundated, long waiting lists and are now not only playing catch up - but are faced with an increase in Covid patients and - all the restrictions surrounding their care.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/07/2021 20:10

Yes if I go anywhere indoors such as transport, shops etc, which to be fair I don’t a lot.

The only place I won’t is at the swimming pool watching Ds as I find it unbearable there.

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 20:11

@TheVampiresWife - so if your assertion that Covid is ‘mild’ and nothing to worry about - why?? is the world/Europe etc having a massive meltdown about it all??

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/07/2021 20:15
@TheVampiresWife - so if your assertion that Covid is ‘mild’ and nothing to worry about - why?? is the world/Europe etc having a massive meltdown about it all??
well quite - that is the $64,000 question

Brouhahaha · 13/07/2021 20:15

Yes of course - a minor inconvenience to protect myself but also protect others

I didn't say it was nothing to worry about, don't put words into my mouth.

Covid, for the vast majority of people, is a mild illness. For up to 30%, it's asymptomatic. In the vaccinated population illness is even less severe - even one dose of vaccine offers up to 94% protection against hospitalisation, rising to up to 96% after two (depending on vaccine used).

The world has been on its knees because it's been playing catch-up with a new, unknown virus. Thanks to vaccines (and constantly improving therapeutics) it's a race we're beginning to win.

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 20:24

@TheVampiresWife Canada are still being cautious despite being ahead of us vaccine wise.

Who are saying that in the race between vaccine and virus - virus is winning…

UndercoverToad · 13/07/2021 20:32

@AlecTrevelyan006 your $64000 dollar question is nothing to do with Bill Gates/5G or aliens - however comforting you might find that thought process.

It's isn't, though, is it.

Look at the difference vaccines make in terms of hospitalisations.

I'd say we've got the fucker on the ropes.
