Govt realises that loads of people getting covid might actually be an issue

Sam Coates of Sky News is tweeting that Whitehall is getting concerned about the sheer number of people who will be having to isolate in the coming days, some from getting covid, and some from having to isolate.

"One source said gvt modelling done under Hancock suggested this scale cd potentially compromise transport and healthcare"

"One government source called this another lockdown by the back door"

Apparently the plan is to make the app less sensitive so that fewer people have to isolate.

Stopping isolations increases infections so not necessarily a great solution.

I'm sure all the planning is well in hand though.

@TableFlowerss

Sorry but just because thats your opinion, it doesn't make it true, i'm not saying it doesn't suit anyone but they would be in a tiny minority

For most people, no pay, stuck inside, plans thrown into disarray, forced to WFH, its a nightmare and this is why so many delete or switch off the app.

TableFlowerss · 09/07/2021 08:40

@PurpleDaisies

And in lockdown they have to stay home to do they not?!?!

You cannot say that an individual being told to isolate by test and trace, or pinged by the app (which is advisory) is the same as a new lockdown.

Regarding the isolation and the app, some people will be happy to get pinged and have to stay iff is the point. It’s suits them, yet it’s the 10 day isolation that’s causing carneage not an actual increase in covid admissions.

I don’t know what point you’re trying to make. Do you think swathes of people are following others closely around supermarkets to try and get time off work?

It wouldn’t be a disaster for me to have to isolate. That doesn’t mean I’m going to try and do it!

Staying at home, lockdown, isolation, whatever………It suits some people! That’s the end of it. Whether you are or disagree me makes no difference to me.
jasjas1973 · 09/07/2021 08:42

But the restrictions are still in place right now yet there’s still an increase in cases

Agree and prob why delta was invited in.

People have had enough. You just need to look at the football fans to see, social distancing is not happening anymore

Agree again, football is a huge super spreader and given that 50% have been db jabbed and the remainder think they aren't at particular risk, its no surprise.

Likewise, makes no difference to me whether you agree/disagree.

To add, don’t people can work from home di not everyone that had to isolate won’t get paid….

There was a thread on here recently by someone raging they had to go back to work. They wanted to continue to work from home.

As I say, some people it suits………..

I get what you’re saying about continuing to wear masks etc… however he point is, there will never be a ‘best time’ to lift restrictions.

Do you not understand how a vaccination programme works? When you’ve double vaccinated a high enough proportion of the population, viruses can’t easily spread. That’s how we live with other infectious diseases.

Just saying people are fed up doesn’t make the situation any better.

There still good compliance with the rules around here. Football is an obvious exception but that’s not a reason to ditch them more generally.

Totally different from being told to isolate.

WFH can work v well for both the business and the employee, esp if its hybrid working.

Sorry, but by the 19th July, clearly the government/advisors feel like enough of the population will have been vaccinated, in order for them to lift restrictions.

I assume they’ll have more accurate figures as to exactly how many people have been vaccinated, than you.

HelloMissus · 09/07/2021 09:00

The government I reckon want everyone to turn off the app now.
And they want people to stop doing LFTs.
They basically want only reported close contacts to positive cases to SI.
But instead of saying that they get the media and social media to discuss just how many people are being pinged. Every time that happens, people turn off the app.

It illustrates nicely, the point, being told to stay at home for 10 days suits some people…..
Notonthestairs · 09/07/2021 09:04

Yes it will suit some people. So what?

jasjas1973 · 09/07/2021 09:06

No it doesn't @TableFlowerss WFH means you can go out, walk the dog look after the kids, go for a long w/e..... isolation doesn't mean any of things.
But you know all of this and its a distraction from the main point that huge infections will lead to the NHS struggling to make inroads to the almost 6m waiting for treatment.

Vaccination figures are published daily. That data is in the public domain. Boris won’t shut up about how many people have been jabbed.

There are a LOT of scientists who have said we need a much larger proportion of the population double vaccinated. The delta variant changed the playing field. If we’d been dealing with the previous incarnation of covid, one would have been enough. There’s a huge drop in efficacy for the first jab with delta. You need two now for proper protection.

TableFlowerss · 09/07/2021 09:09

Some people would be happy to get pinged so won’t delete the absolutely useless app, creating to this problem

Well it doesn’t matter why anyone feels, thinks on here…. It’s happening so the sooner people get used to it the better
CovidCorvid · 09/07/2021 09:10

Someone told me this morning that free LFTs are going to stop soon....that basically the govt don't think the general population need to carry on testing. Is that true does anyone know?

PurpleDaisies · 09/07/2021 09:11

@TableFlowerss

They’re not deleting the app because they want to do the right thing if they’re alerted as potentially becoming infectious. Not because they particularly fancy having ten days off.
AnotherDayAnotherCake · 09/07/2021 09:12

Apart from the useless App what is the other way you’d get instructed to isolate? Is it a call from Test & Trace? How does that happen?
I spent 90 minutes on the phone to T&T giving them the details of the 2 people they decided constituted close contacts.
Neither were contacted by T&T.
Neither isolated.

TableFlowerss · 09/07/2021 09:12

You are totally missing the point. The reason people are getting pinged is because there’s widespread covid circulation at the moment.

Debatable

Bunnyfuller · 09/07/2021 09:14

Just read the headline:

Oh dear, the app is picking up loads more contacts (because it is spreading like wildfire)

Hmmm what shall we do? Ha! Let’s turn it down then we won’t have to admit we’re letting it explode!

HJ91 · 09/07/2021 09:15

I got a notification yesterday. I will be avoiding the city after this - popping in to a coffee shop isn’t worth it. 4 more days of utter cabin fever.
