@XenoBitch

Talking about suicide does not encourage copycat behaviour. There are guidelines that the media follows in terms of describing methods... (and even MN does this too... I have had comments deleted for describing methods).

the media follows guidelines for this reason

General discussion about suicide does not encourage someone to do it. That seed is already planted. Not talking about it is dangerous.

If you are assessing someone for suicide risk, it is very reasonable to ask them about suicide risk, and indeed you need to.

That is of course completely different to randomly making up erroneous statements about there being increases in suicidal behaviour in the community when there aren't. This is undesirable for all sorts of reasons.

Just dropped back after reading this. Seemed relevant and interesting.

And this. Whatever your views on masks, please, please, please remember this. Don't dismiss their fear - what kind of person would do that? We're better than that, surely! Acknowledge and respect it.

Againstmachine · 06/07/2021 20:59

dear me

If they see fit to lie once then they see fit to keep doing it, to pretend it didn't happen is scary.

Againstmachine · 06/07/2021 21:02

If the elderly didn't decide to come out at peak times that would be great, them round me can't be that scared as they are always out and about.

The sad thing is the Boris Johnson and his crew are liars - we know that BorisJohnson has been a liar all through his time as a journalist.

Chris Whitty is the most honest and intelligent person that has somehow managed to be anywhere near our terrible, terrible Government.

Your attitude is seriously screwball.

UndercoverToad · 06/07/2021 21:12

Think if @Againstmachine is representative of anti maskers, it does nothing more than reinforce my opinion that we damn well need them!

I also Chris Whitty is measured, easy to understand, humble and - the antithesis of @againstmachine. Which is maybe why he/she dislikes him so much!

MarshaBradyo · 06/07/2021 21:14

I think even if we disagree on here I can agree Chris Whitty has been excellent, measured and humble throughout. Plus worth listening to.

I pretty much hone in on what he and Sir Patrick say these days.

Againstmachine · 06/07/2021 21:15

Chris Whitty is the most honest and intelligent person that has somehow managed to be anywhere near our terrible, terrible Government.

Yet he saw fit to falisfy figures and lie your man of integrity isnt that great.

UndercoverToad · 06/07/2021 21:16

@Againstmachine this coming from you who’s just falsified pretty horrifically just a few posts ago!!

Againstmachine · 06/07/2021 21:16

@UndercoverToad
If you are representative of maskers god help us self righteous.

See how that works

Againstmachine · 06/07/2021 21:18

I don't that's your opinion I did. It's a fact that they presented lies.

UndercoverToad · 06/07/2021 21:21

@Againstmachine - it’s the opinion of the Samaritans Hmm

FlissMumsnet · 06/07/2021 21:34

Ahem.......

Can we play nicely please or we'll be making a bucketload of deletions or losing the thread entirely.

Seriously, no loss. This thread started badly and has deteriorated. A few high points with some well evidenced arguments - but not many.

@PopcornMuncher

Deliberately lied, or made an error when faced with a completely unprecedented situation where no one knew what to do for the best.

He lied to create that situation.

I agree with @Againstmachine that he lied about figures. Twice that I know of. I've no idea why people still trust himConfused

Which set of figures are you talking about?
puppeteer · 06/07/2021 22:21

You mean the non-covid treatment backlog?

(Which I am quite interested to find more about…)

Or something else?

DoubleTweenQueen · 06/07/2021 22:31

Well, I hope sars2 keeps up with the news and political developments, and realises it needs to cease activity on July 19th

DoubleTweenQueen · 06/07/2021 22:38

@WouldBeGood

I have no issue with others who want to continue with them
How generous of you.
