What never understood is people who are worried about others not having a mask on..but then going up to that person and having a go. So getting close and all..doesnt make sense. Seen many people without masks and hasn't crossed my mind to make a judgement or anything. Least if changes to personal choice be less aggro over them. Some people can...some people can't..some people just don't. Thats the way it's been.

Though seem to have collected a fair few so maybe will carry on..some are pretty even though probably not that useful

I agree. I've never got the mindset that someone is so bothered about another not wearing a mask and being a danger to others that they have to get inches away from their face to berate them.

We all see people without masks every day but other than a quick 2 second glance, that's as much as I ever notice before I continue with my own business and let others get on with theirs

Overthebow · 04/07/2021 12:10

Honestly I can't see lanyards for SD working. We will all be going about our day as normal, no mask wearing, no distancing required. I'm going to be concentrating on what I'm doing, and my DC. I'm not going to be looking out in case someone happens to be wearing a specific lanyard. People wear lanyards for all kinds of reasons, including normal work lanyards. I really don't have time to be looking out for them, identifying which one it is then make a conscious decision to distance.

Once masks and distancing go, it's going to be the responsibility of the individual to distance themselves and wear a mask if they wish, it shouldn't be everyone else's responsibility to look out for what others are doing.

Ginandfantalemon · 04/07/2021 12:23

I think the biggest problem is that people who absolutely cannot wear a mask are being categorised along with those who simply refuse. To be honest, I dont know anyone who is refusing because they just dont want to. And many who cannot, for whatever reason, often look perfectly healthy, therefore some people might presume they are the ones who dont want to. I am exempt and have a lanyard, but have never worn it, because I know people would be looking at me and wondering why I am exempt. I think if I lived in a big city full of people I didn't know it may be easier, but when you live in a small place where everybody knows or likes to know everyone's business then I am not prepared to labelled 'different', if that makes sense. So, I have just stayed at home.

ilovesooty · 04/07/2021 12:43

As far as I'm concerned someone who is mask less by choice and is not exempt while masks are mandatory is a mask refuser.

Obviously when the law changes that will no longer be the case.

Dippydinosaurus · 04/07/2021 12:51

@knittingaddict

I do worry about a more dangerous variant if we allow cv to be spread unchecked. I hope this doesn't come back and bite us in the bum. Sad
This. I know it's doom and gloom but letting covid run free is why variants will develop. The vaccines will become less effective. I wish I felt more positive and I hope I'm wrong but I don't feel like this is the end
LucilleTheVampireBat · 04/07/2021 12:52

I mean come on, use a visor! they're a pair of glasses with a thin shield attached

Visors are utterly useless. Pointless things. They do nothing and protect nobody. Wearing a visor is complete covid theatre. Do people get a pass from you if they wear a visor? Do you deem them worthy?

Ginandfantalemon · 04/07/2021 12:52

@ilovesooty but how would you know the difference?

One thing I see a lot on public transport is people with a mask around their necks or chins but not wearing it properly. For some reason the majority of them are young men.

If someone is genuinely exempt they wouldn't be wearing a mask hanging around their neck so when I see people like that, I do categorise them as mask refusers who only have it with them to avoid being fined if there are checks.

CottageGardener · 04/07/2021 13:06

@Dippydinosaurus what you have said is just scientifically wrong.

Imnothereforthedrama · 04/07/2021 13:06

I can’t believe people are still arguing about masks 12 months on . I’m not convinced They do anything to stop the spread of Covid, but yet people seem to think that this bit of flimsy material that I bet a lot of people don’t wear properly and wash often will protect them .
We’ve had people saying that they can’t understand why anyone can’t wear one then say if you can’t wear one stay home . It’s absolutely disgusting and you know what it makes me think there are so many people who aren’t very nice about no empathy whatsoever.
I’m fucking done with this argument roll on the 19th.

SueSaid · 04/07/2021 13:11

'I’m fucking done with this argument roll on the 19th.'

Same.

Just please no new lanyards this time asking the rest of us to now keep our distance as the never wearers now feel anxious about the rest of us.

Let's all be kind and considerate hmm?

3cats2kids · 04/07/2021 13:24

I feel this is a mistake. It’s unfair on those who deal with large amounts of the public in indoor environments, often in low paid roles, such as bus drivers, care staff etc. Hospitalisations are increasing. It isn’t over yet.

Ginandfantalemon · 04/07/2021 13:50

@3cats2kids Do you think you would feel any different if they kept the restrictions for say another month? Will it ever be the right time? People are going to be given the opportunity to take personal responsibility now and many in the jobs you have mentioned may continue to wear masks. No, it isn't over yet, it perhaps never will be completely over, but I think this has to be the next step in learning to live with it.

It’s never going to be over. It’s been made patently clear for some time that we’re going to have to live with it.
GintyMcGinty · 04/07/2021 14:01

Not in Scotland. Nippy is keeping them in place.

🥲🥲🥲

ilovesooty · 04/07/2021 14:06
@ilovesooty but how would you know the difference?
You don't, which is why I wouldn't stare at or question anyone. I'm referring to a post upthread. I'm really sorry that the time of mandatory masks has been so hard for you and hope things will be much easier for you when it becomes a matter of personal choice. The mask refusers have made things much harder for the exempt.

Ginandfantalemon · 04/07/2021 14:21

@ilovesooty
Thank you, I feel I'll be able to get a bit independence back, However, like @GintyMcGinty I am in Scotland too. Here's hoping, and even if wee Nic keeps them in place much longer I really cant see people heeding her to be honest.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 04/07/2021 14:35

I'm ordering N95 ones. I don't intend to protect others if they won't protect me.

sadperson16 · 04/07/2021 14:39

Which is the law that tells us we must wear a mask please?

MarshaBradyo · 04/07/2021 14:44

I think R4 need just confirmed will be optional

Here it is based on this www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57710527.amp

I don't know, they can be useful. If you're wearing a visor and you accidentally find yourself in the midst of a riot, you will be protected from flying coke cans etc! Also, if you suddenly get the urge to do a bit of impromptu angle grinding, this will protect you from flying shrapnel.
Inastatus · 04/07/2021 16:08

@Tzimi 😂 Also useful if you suddenly feel like re-creating a scene from Flashdance in the middle of Waitrose!

Villanelle17 · 04/07/2021 17:33

I'm exempt, but welcome this. Most people haven't had a problem with me not wearing a mask, but this week a receptionist said I need to put one on. I showed her my doctor's letter, but she still insisted. The irony was she wasn't wearing a mask either and wasn't behind a screen or anything.
Don't care if people still choose to wear a mask as it's their choice

She had no right to do that. I'm sorry this happened to you Flowers
