@puppeteer
That should read ‘no such thing as a selfless act’ in my earlier post!’

I think masks should still be worn in certain places after the 19th. Hospitals definitely - and clinics, healthcare providers. Places that the potentially vulnerable need to access for essential goods and services. I think it would be possible to make this mandatory.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 07:49

@Thelm I think that when SD ends perhaps the sunflower lanyard could be used for its original purpose - a signifier that extra assistance/consideration is required by the wearer and that could mean SD. I've also seen sashes/lanyards requesting distancing. If those who needed to keep their distance wore something like that only the biggest twat imaginable wouldn't respect it. The majority of people won't be bothered with distancing - they weren't arsed with personal space before the pandemic/restrictions and they certainly won't be after.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 04/07/2021 07:51

The best way to distance is just to stay at home and get shopping delivered.

I think you could be right about the lanyard. I’ve have Aspergers and whilst I’m not particularly worried about covid I have found people staying away from me just wonderful. It genuinely upsets me when people invade my personal space.

Really? That’s your response to someone with a disability? Stay home and don’t participate in society. Why should I stay home? Why can’t people at least try to be considerate and respectful to one another? Then we can all go out and be as comfortable as possible?

How very retro 2020 mask exempt thread Grin

If I had a pound for every time I've been told this over the last year I'd be able to have my shopping delivered every week for the rest of my life. From Fortnum & Mason. Delivered by unicorns.

But this is what the obsessive mask lovers have been saying to the disabled and exempt from mask wearing. Ironic isnt it that you picked this comment up and turn it against the OP who has been very clear on her position against this kind of behaviour.

I fear her point went over your head. Wink

I hope that the covid cases will stop being counted & publicised daily as well.

It has to stop at some stage surely?? To get back to life we need to stop the ridiculous tally, or include all other illnesses and deaths

I have typed Thelm's response almost word for word more times than I can count over the past year to people telling me I have no right to get on a bus, go to work, attend hospital appointments, go into a shop... And every time I've been told to suck it up, I'm not trying hard enough, I'm a selfish cunt, STAY AT HOME.

It's interesting that the boot is on the other foot now.

But I haven’t been saying anyone should stay home. I don’t think anyone should have to stay home.

Apologies if I missed the point but as I said above, I have a learning disability. I have personally found that there have been far more people who have said that disabled and vulnerable people should stay at home so the rest of people can just live a normal life than who have told people who can’t wear a mask to stay at home.

I just hope we can all be kind to another moving forward.

I'm sorry this has been your experience. However judging by the posts on MN and the real-life comments and abuse mask exempt people receive (myself included), I do think most exempt people would disagree.

I agree that kindness going forward would be lovely. But sadly, once the oddly euphoric early days of LD1 with all its rainbows and clapping had passed, the pandemic polarised people in the same way Brexit did. Kindness is pretty thin on the ground, unfortunately.

Thelm · 04/07/2021 08:15

I’m sorry that people have attacked you for not being able to wear a mask. This shouldn’t have happened and i agree that there have been some awful comments made by some people.

But that doesn’t mean that you should then do the same to everyone else when ‘the boot is on the other foot’. I haven’t been unkind to anyone and (like everyone who has been on the receiving end of abuse) I don’t feel like I deserve to be told to stay home because I’d prefer some personal space.

Thank you for your balanced and kind replies to my posts.

Fortunately MN isn’t real life and when most decent human beings have encountered a mask less person in a shop, they haven’t been twats about it

Thee have been some very odd people and opinions expressed on MN this last year

sadperson16 · 04/07/2021 08:36

I am maskless by choice. No disability.

Except how will they decide who gets the discount? There will be pisstakers you can be sure of that. Who wouldn’t want more space if they can get it

@Blossomtoes

My point is there’s low hospital admissions, low death rates, relatively low infection rates and the majority of the adult population is vaccinated, to the point where we’re virtually at herd immunity.

You’re the one ignoring every single problem except fucking covid. Trashed economy, businesses closing, thousands of kids not being educated, a mental health tsunami, debt rising.

,That’s not smugness, chum, it’s balance.

Absolutely 100% spot on. Some people can't see the bigger picture.

I'm overjoyed that the legal requirement to wear masks will go. BRING IT ONGrin

Thank crap for that.

Despite being aware of the scientific evidence that they are pretty unfit for purpose, I have been following the mask directives.

My DD is 9. She comes shopping with me, and we have had some entertaining 'mask comprehension' issues.

This week we had to do a very quick shop.
I ask her to grab a LOAF of bread.
At the till I was very confused by the volume of bread in my trolley.
So, we ultimately purchased a LOAD of bread.

Her hearing is perfectly normal.
Goodness knows what shite would be in my freezer otherwise.

sadperson16 · 04/07/2021 08:55

Lol,I think I will stay at home and wear 2 masks and go quietly mad.

TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 08:55

@TeddingtonTrashbag I qualify for discounted tickets because I'm disabled - I show them my disabled bus pass as proof (they also accept things like hospital letters, proof of disability benefits etc). If I'm booking online I send a pic of my pass. I assume it'll be the same for SD discounts.
