@Blossomtoes

My point is there’s low hospital admissions, low death rates, relatively low infection rates and the majority of the adult population is vaccinated, to the point where we’re virtually at herd immunity.

You’re the one ignoring every single problem except fucking covid. Trashed economy, businesses closing, thousands of kids not being educated, a mental health tsunami, debt rising.

,That’s not smugness, chum, it’s balance.

Brilliant post @Blossomtoes Put so much better than I could put it.

The madness does need to stop. We CANNOT keep it up.

SpnBaby1967 · 03/07/2021 19:33

Enough with the mutations scare mongering. Viruses have ALWAYS mutated, since the dawn of time. It's how they survive. Covid has mutated over 4000 times already!!

And long covid, we've always had it. It's called post viral fatigue syndrome. There has always been PVS clinics up and down the country, covid ones are new but not a new invention. I had severe post viral syndrome after glandular fever, I dont remember locking the country down for me!

The hyperbole on this thread is hysterical! So now I'm supposed to wear a mask to protect someone's 91 year old Mum, whose already lived way past the average life span. No, sorry, not doing it. I've done it enough already. 91 yo die of all sorts of things could be covid, could be a fall either way it's not a premature, tragic loss (tragic to immediate family of course) and not enough reason to keep masks.

Morgysmum · 03/07/2021 19:45

I just hope, that the people who thought it was OK, to cough and sneeze over shop staff, decided to change there habits and stop being so gross. I hope they keep masks on buses, as that's the worst when someone starts coughing in an enclosed space.

Chillychangchoo · 03/07/2021 20:26

@Morgysmum

I don’t think that will change as some people are just disgusting. It shouldn’t have needed a pandemic to know that.

Just before covid I remember sitting in the theatre directly behind a lady who thought it was okay to cough and splutter her whole way through the performance. She could barely catch her breath.

How someone can sit there like that and not be embarrassed is beyond me.

GrannyRose15 · 03/07/2021 21:17

@fat13

I’m worried shops and other places will insist on them anyway Sad
Won't get my custom then.
Stolengoat · 03/07/2021 21:50

I'd rather masks and social distancing stayed, myself. I don't know why so people want to stand so close!

Againstmachine · 03/07/2021 22:04

You are free to wear a mask and social distance, just don't expect rest of us to.

Tzimi · 03/07/2021 22:31

@PopcornMuncher

Happy for others to wear them. I won't be if I don't have to
Too bloody right, I won't either!
Ginandfantalemon · 03/07/2021 22:31

@SpnBaby1967

100% this

The Telegraph
Bullish Boris Johnson to axe face mask laws as NHS ‘no longer at risk’

Great news

Tzimi · 03/07/2021 22:37

@Chickychickydodah

I’ll be wearing mine for a while longer.
How much longer?

The Telegraph Bullish Boris Johnson to axe face mask laws as NHS ‘no longer at risk’

Great news

More:

Mr Johnson is expected to lay out a blueprint for how England will live with the virus, as ministers prepare to replace swathes of legal restrictions with a call for “common sense” and “personal responsibility”.

As part of the move, the Government is expected to ditch the compulsory wearing of masks, along with the one-metre-plus rule that pubs and restaurants have warned is crippling them.

Announcing the changes this week, an increasingly bullish Mr Johnson is expected to cite recent data and modelling to declare that, while infection rates will rise as restrictions are eased, the successful roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines means that the numbers of hospitalisations and deaths are no longer rising at the same scale as before.

Because so many aspects of society can't function with folks standing 2 metres away from each other.

However, if it means that much to you, I guess you could pay double price to buy out 2 seats on the bus or at the cinema. Social distancing costs money, so maybe it's time for those costs to be transferred to those who consider it such a great idea. They might then find out they don't actually consider it such a great idea.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/07/2021 22:57

common sense and personal responsibility

Given how many don’t follow the covid laws I can’t see that approach working.

If it all goes, we will stick to outdoors for entertainment until cases drop again.

Ginandfantalemon · 03/07/2021 23:02

I certainly wouldn't pay for that at a theatre, but I'd rather be 2m away from someone without a mask than next to someone 1m or less with their face covered. To me, that's the less than back to normal option.

IcedPurple · 03/07/2021 23:05

But if so many aren't following the 'covid laws' then clearly that approach isn't working either?

You're free to make your own risk assessments of course, and hopefully the rest of us soon will be too.

MercyBooth · 04/07/2021 00:27

Saw a bloke today i havent seen for ages. Not since pre Covid. He started going on and on about how no one should have an excuse not to wear one. And that he would make them if he could.
His ex wife had to flee to a refuge a few years back. There are a few abusive control freaks who are really enjoying this.

Ginandfantalemon · 04/07/2021 00:40

@Merchybooth, I really don't think you should even be speaking to people like this.

MercyBooth · 04/07/2021 00:49

I didnt have a choice today football related I do try to avoid him mostly.

I had an email from a to local theatre which is reopening soon. They say that their performances won't be socially distanced apart from one or two performances of each play, which people can book if they choose. Tickets for SD performances will be more expensive to cover costs but those with health conditions/disabilities will get a discount.

This seems brilliantly fair to me and a good compromise going forward for those who feel happier to continue with SD.

What do you mean by this though? Are you saying that you won’t be giving people who might be a bit more concerned space? For example in a supermarket queue?
TheVampiresWife · 04/07/2021 07:21

@Thelm how are people supposed to know who needs more space though?

Thelm · 04/07/2021 07:26
@Thelm how are people supposed to know who needs more space though?
I’m trying to understand what people mean when they say they won’t social distance anymore.

Does this mean they won’t stand apart from their friends? Or does it mean that they will be doing what they like and not giving people personal space even if they don’t know them? For example in a supermarket queue. I’m not sure what is to be gained by the latter. You aren’t going to be served any more quickly if you are herding up my back in a queue. So what is the purpose of this? I’m trying to understand.
