Then they will have to people yo work there, thereby helping them back into the job market.
Good result!

I'm assuming you mean pay people to work there. A regular charity shop doesn't make enough money to pay all the back of house and shop floor and till staff to pay people. With no volunteers it would have to close. Without a doubt.

81Byerley · 01/07/2021 13:50

@hopeishere

I think a lot of people will continue to wear them.
What's fantastic about having Covid spread even more?
RaisinsRuinEverything · 01/07/2021 13:51

Hope this is true!

CupOfTPlease · 01/07/2021 13:53

@bluejelly

I'll carry on wearing mine in enclosed spaces. I think lots will
Yep!

About fucking time.

Not that it affects me cos i never wore one. Not about to start now either.

Time to start living properly instead of some fucking twilight zone.

MachiaNelly · 01/07/2021 13:55

Well the staff can carry on wearing them if they need 'to feel safe'. I can't wait to stop wearing the damn things!

Your mask is to protect other people. Other people wearing masks is to protect you. I'm not a 'pearl-clutching' health anxious mask worshipper.
But the number of people on this thread who keep saying they will take their chances without one, or that if we feel unsafe, wear a mask but why should they are completely misunderstanding the point of wearing masks. No matter how many people point it out, they still appear to be missing it.

The staff who are afraid of infection won't 'feel safe' just because 'they' are wearing a mask. They will feel 'safer' if their 100s of customers are mostly wearing masks. Because Masks are to protect Others not Yourself.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 01/07/2021 13:59

Someone will spot s gap in the market to sell masks to the gullible that ‘protect’ the wearer.
Then everyone gets what they want.

I'm not going to tell you where I got my degrees or what they are in. Suffice to say that it is irrelevant. If everyone was only allowed to discuss or form opinions on those subjects in which they have degrees, Mumsnet wouldn't exist for starters.

Not really irrelevant when it forms the basis of your conclusion that masks don’t work. That goes against the overwhelming scientific data gathered from decades of using masks to prevent transmission of disease. If you have special secret information to refute that, it would be interesting to know where it came from.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 01/07/2021 14:13

And how many of those who post on here desperate to keep masks at all costs have ‘a degree in Epidemiology’ -doubt a thing even exists and even if it does - who’s an expert anyway with a ‘degree’?
I have s first in my degree and would not claim to be an ‘expert’ in those subjects.

yawn, we heard all this rubbish last year. Only the idiots having the luxury of being away from covid wards and not dealing with the pandemic and its effects could carry on talking nonsense.
UrbanRambler · 01/07/2021 14:17

I hope it's true. I had to leave a job because of a severe reaction to the masks they made me wear - constant runny nose, sneezing and headache. I think I was allergic to the formaldehyde in them. I was not allowed to wear any other type of mask, and they would not consider making any exception for me, despite the fact I'd had both jabs and it was an outdoor environment. It was only a temporary job, so I had no employment rights to be able to argue exemption at a tribunal. Still, I really wanted to make it work as it was my first job since being made redundant last year and I now feel virtually unemployable due to this issue (plus being 60).

Rainallnight · 01/07/2021 14:17

@apocalypsehow Why do you believe they’re detrimental?

Sparrowfeeder · 01/07/2021 14:30

You people aren’t going to know what’s hit you when the impacts of climate change really hit. Enjoy it whilst it lasts, your grandkids won’t!

Who are 'you people'?

University of Edinburgh offers a degree in Infectious Diseases.

I have s first in my degree and would not claim to be an ‘expert’ in those subjects.

Who mentioned experts? Presumably your first at least gave you fairly basic knowledge.

Stuffin · 01/07/2021 14:40

Great news.

For those saying they will still wear them then no one is stopping you but at least they rest of us aren't being forced to continue.

And any shop that decides to still mandate them will just find I will take my money to those that don't.

UrbanRambler · 01/07/2021 14:41

@MachiaNelly You have a point and I understand your anxiety around people not wearing masks. I do wear masks in shops, which are cotton ones I made myself, but find that after 30 mins my nose is streaming and I begin to feel quite ill. Hence why I do most shopping online now. I tried anti histamines but they make no difference - even my cotton masks, which are a comfortable fit and shape, cause me to feel and look ill after 30 mins. The disposable masks I was made to wear in my temporary job caused me such severe problems I had to leave, so I am curious to know if anyone has any top tips for reducing such reactions.

Big respect to all retail workers and other people who have had to cope with masks for hours on end at work.

Do you mean you are not an expert in the subject you did your degree in?

Anitawiglit12 · 01/07/2021 15:22

There’s some really worrying health anxiety on here, it’s a shame.

CrappyBirthday2Me · 01/07/2021 15:24

Why are people such whiney babies about wearing masks? Honestly it's embarrassing to hear and read.

Namechangetimeagain · 01/07/2021 15:26

@TeddingtonTrashbag

As reported in the DM. So happy if it’s true.
It's by Election Day in Batley. It's the same message they pedalled before the last 2 by-elections. It's BJ and his newspaper chums being all buoyant and optimistic.

I'm sure many (most?) restrictions will be lifted but don't get carried away by vacuous messaging.

@Anitawiglit12

I think this is the big problem @Anitawiglit12. Irrational fear induced by government and media seems to be everywhere.

I know it’s a horrible thing, having suffered myself in the past, but the rest of society can’t be forced to live under restrictions to pacify the anxious.

Ginandfantalemon · 01/07/2021 15:33

@CrappyBirthday2Me
Why would you be embarrassed? If someone CANNOT wear a mask (and there are many of us), how dare you call us whiney babies. We aren't whining, we literally cant go out with one on. Do you even realise the impact masks have had on some peoples lives. Just because you can tolerate a mask, doesn't mean everyone else can. I personally cant wait until they are not mandatory.

Wizzbangfizz · 01/07/2021 15:36

Why should we wear masks indefinitely though?! Why give up that freedom - covid is an illness we will have to live with like many others. No idea why mask wearers can't just crack on and let the rest of us live our lives normally.
