I’m really glad the UK is opening up, I’m really glad the country I live in is also opening up. But no one has stopped for a moment to think how that will affect international reopening. Many, many millions of people will now have to wait another many months, or years, before seeing their loved ones again. I can travel all over the EU, I can travel to London to watch the football and wear no mask in a packed stadium. But I’m not allowed to go give my friend a hug, because it’s unsafe and, ‘delta’…
I'm one of those who hasn't seen my family in more than a year, and it's at least a year before I'll be technically allowed to see them again (and probably longer in practice).
I'm kind of hoping the UK's gung ho approach at this point will allow the virus now to rip through the population, bugger the short and medium term consequences.
I mean obviously I don't, because there's a lot of crap involved in that approach for all concerned in the short term until we get more second doses in arms.
But if this is the govt's approach that feels like my best case scenario endgame.
