Too many hospitalisations imho but restrictions will ease, only to be reapplied later.

Not really sure why the public are so understanding of uk govt not controlling our borders.

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 21:34

They made it clear at last update

This was about making sure they’d ‘done what they could’

Not about delaying to save lives

More about delaying to save face

This was about facing the public and saying ‘we did everything we could’ when cases inevitably rise and fall over time

I totally agree with them by the way!

They want to open

They didn’t want to delay

They have delayed to keep people happy pure and simple

Now every adult has had one dose there’s no excuse for them not to open

It will 100% happen because there’s no benefit in delaying it - which they’ve said themselves many times

Cant wait

Againstmachine · 28/06/2021 21:39

The problem is they were saying the same about June 19th until the announcement the week before it, Boris continually said there was no reason why June 19th wouldn't happen.

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 21:40

They hadn’t offered all vaccine then

To delay after 19 July offers no benefit which is why they are so set on it

NannyAndJohn · 28/06/2021 21:40

22800 cases and rising exponentially.

And still our government and Joe Public have their heads in the sand.

bellsbuss · 28/06/2021 21:41

It was said again today about it being irreversible, I do believe the 19th will definitely happen and so do most of my friends. I also think we are being prepped that this is it now and that we have to live will it. Case numbers aren't top of the news like they once were, it wouldn't surprise me if they stopped telling us the case numbers daily and that we will have to look it up if we want to know.

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 21:41

I don’t care if there’s a million cases a day

If 3 people die a day are you seriously saying we need restrictions? It’s a joke

Dozens die of flu in the summer a day

Watapalava · 28/06/2021 21:42

Bells

They said today in HOC that the cases don’t matter and that they won’t influence considerations anymore

The idea now is reporting will shift to hospitalisations etc

Which aren’t rising that much and are 1/30 the rate or February

Daisy829 · 28/06/2021 21:43

Yes I agree with a lot of what people are saying. I actually don’t mind masks & social distancing but just want consistency for the kids at school.

IcedPurple · 28/06/2021 21:45

@NannyAndJohn

22800 cases and rising exponentially.

In other words, a quarter of the number you so obsssively predicted?

The nanny who cried wolf.

luckylavender · 28/06/2021 21:45

@TheVampiresWife - LF results don't count as infections

Completely agree

@NannyAndJohn

22800 cases and rising exponentially.

The last time cases were as high as they have been for the past few days, deaths were in the high hundreds and daily hospitalisations in the many thousands.

Delta has been with us for months and serious illness hasn't increased in the same way or with the same rapidity as it did with Alpha, which was much less transmissible.

Vaccines are working. Thank heavens.

Tealightsandd · 28/06/2021 21:46

now is maybe not the right time to be lifting restrictions that have helped keep infections in check.

Well no. It's the perfect time...if the aim is to kill and disable.

So will travel restrictions go too?

Doubt it. Here maybe but who's going to want to let us in?

Like my fellow usual suspect says, we are a very high risk country. And it's no wonder. Masks going too. Against the WHO and expert (scientist and doctor) advice for learning to 'live with' it.

Here's a prediction that will be pooh poohed for now. In two or three years time people will regret the UK's refusal to suppress and contain. That's when the true extent of Long Covid will be apparent.

Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Now who's taking bets on when the next (potentially vaccine resistant) UK strain appears? August? September? October? I'm quite sure the rest of the world can't wait for our next export.

TheVampiresWife · 28/06/2021 21:47

@NannyAndJohn

22800 cases and rising exponentially.

And still our government and Joe Public have their heads in the sand.

Also weren't you telling us that there would be 100k cases a day by now?

So by your own measure, the current situation is extremely positive!

Arrowheart · 28/06/2021 21:48

@NannyAndJohn

Pretty sure this number is a lot less than you have previously predicted in your numerous previous predictions...
TheVampiresWife · 28/06/2021 21:49
@TheVampiresWife - LF results don't count as infections
They are if they're followed up with a positive PCR test.

IcedPurple · 28/06/2021 21:49

It won't be long before the usual suspects pop along to tell you why this won't/mustn't happen but thankfully they don't get to make the decision

Well, we've got two here already so it would be NUTS if the others didnt turn up to make a full house.

MarshaBradyo · 28/06/2021 21:49

Wasn’t it 100k on June 21

With a doubling time of what? So we’re even further away from that

The Warwick model diversion is also good to see.

Glad others have said hospitalisation is now the key metric, finally

luckylavender · 28/06/2021 21:49

@Watapalava - I don't really understand how it will work. Thousands of people self isolating & it will grow because everything will be open. It's going to be chaos.

TheVampiresWife · 28/06/2021 21:50

I'm not sure how well this thread could CARRIE that off, tbh

Maybe it would be wise for them to go incognito?

BashStreet1 · 28/06/2021 21:52

I'm in an area of enhanced measures And there's so much more testing here than during previous waves - so no wonder they are reporting lots of cases!

Everyone in my area- not just school kids, healthcare workers etc - is being told to take twice weekly lfts, everyone in high schools and certain 'hotspot' postcodes have been told to have pcr tests- this has picked up lots of asymptotic cases we would never have known about in previous waves.

Local hospitalisation rates remain low and no deaths have been reported for ages though.

So I can see why lots of people are calling for restrictions to be lifted soon.

luckylavender · 28/06/2021 21:52

@TheVampiresWife - obviously they are if they are followed up by a PCR test. But it's the PCR that counts.
