Do you think this will happen? I hope so.

I think the main thing I would like is that isolation for close contact stops especially for school age children. It’s ridiculous.
I think mask & social distancing will stay.

Quartz2208 · 23/06/2021 10:27

The thing with the Dailymail is that it does speak for a certain type/group of people - but one that the Government wants and needs onside in order to be successful.

It is clear that public support in restrictions is diminishing rapidly, that we have lost any interest in variants (unless it is a completely vaccine escaping one) and Parliamentary support is wavering.

The real fear I think is the winter so I think at the very least they will let us free for summer for a bit

PuzzledObserver · 23/06/2021 10:34

@bumbleymummy we responded to the Delta variant by delaying the next stage of unlocking and accelerating 2nd doses for the over 50’s.

Whether that is adequate is another matter, but we did respond. Or rather, we responded to the rise in cases caused by the Delta variant

Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 10:37

@Quartz2208 I don’t often quote the daily Mail on here but a lot of other papers are behind a paywall now.

Cafeaulait27 · 23/06/2021 10:39

If you look further up you will see that I’ve posted that the Times are also reporting it this morning, although it’s behind a paywall.

Quartz2208 · 23/06/2021 10:39

@Baileysforchristmas nothing wrong with it - it is a useful tool I think to see how the mood is across the board even if you dont agree with it politics.

It also has a habit of taking stories from other newspapers which works perfectly with the paywall

ancientgran · 23/06/2021 10:40

@TreaslakeandBack

No. I’ll be happy if they don’t lock us up more tbh! Definitely no local lockdowns.
That's how I feel.

Well I think whether it actually made a difference is important. If it didn’t, then what’s the point? Why continue to put restrictions on people that do impact people’s businesses, relationships, mental health etc when it makes little difference to the virus?

ancientgran · 23/06/2021 10:41

@TooManyPlatesInMotion

I hope so. I think public tolerance is wearing thin (the football hasn't helped). Personally, in the last week I have been dialling down my own compliance re masks.
The football is sending a terrible message, the crowds we've seen already and is it 60,000 for the final with 2,500 officials flown in with no quarantine? Look what G7 has done in Cornwall.
newnortherner111 · 23/06/2021 10:52

I'm thinking face coverings will remain in some settings, and travel restrictions abroad.

Don't forget Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland may be different.

The DM article is based on The Times’.
socalledfriend · 23/06/2021 10:58

Very unlikely I should think.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/06/2021 11:01

There will be no end to it until people just stop complying

Or until the government have privatised most of the NHS and sold it to their cronies

Make people desperate enough and eventually they'll accept almost anything to get out of it

Quartz2208 · 23/06/2021 11:04

Why (variants aside) do people think it’s unlikely - from looking at the media and tv this approach seems to be a very popular one

StaffRepFeistyClub · 23/06/2021 11:05

YABU on the basis that you have used a storybook called The Daily Mail. You should use less biased sources or at least sources with a higher quality of journalism.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 23/06/2021 11:09

I hope not. I like that (most) people are giving others more space. I don't want to go back to my personal space being invaded again.

This isn't AIBU.

It has been pointed out many times throughout the thread that the article is in plenty of other papers with "a higher quality of journalism".

NotAncientHistory · 23/06/2021 11:11

They had better keep the masks or else it will be catastrophic.
Schools round my way that kept masks have much less Covid than the schools that ditched masks when BJ said all was fine super fine

Here is the bbc reporting what Boris Johnson said yesterday

The football, the ‘business channel’, pretending Cummings was actually within the law and guidelines at the time. There’s a long list. It’s not to really a surprise that this government think rules don’t apply to them. Even leaving the border to India open as long as they did was to benefit them.

We didn’t need to get into this situation.

So we’re all screwed and July 19th is definitely off then.
dangerrabbit · 23/06/2021 11:14

No, they're just lying to the public as usual while they wait to see who they can blame when things get nearer the time, when we will be given another date in August and infinitum

TableFlowerss · 23/06/2021 11:16

@chaosrabbitland

no , its just lies to string us along , there will be another scarient , more reasons why its not safe , they are already hinting about lockdowns over the winter period , this for a population that by then should be fully vaccinated by everybody that wants to be . there will be no end to it until people just stop complying
Can’t disagree with this
Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 11:19

Make the most of the summer then, ignore the rules as much as possible and live your life the best you can before the next lockdown.
