Do you think this will happen? I hope so.

@MGMidget

The big elephant in the room is what will they do about unvaccinated children and the circulation of covid in schools when all restrictions are lifted? Will it be treated like any other virus and no need to close bubbles or isolate?. Just take time off if you have a high temperature or feeling too unwell to be in school but fine to go in with a snuffle or a bit of a cough and no need for testing? Schools will break up arounf the time the restrictions are lifted but they only solves the problem for the summer holidays. What after that?
Very true
SexTrainGlue · 23/06/2021 09:42

I think it'll happen, because schools will be closing for the summer, which knocks out that vector for transmission for a couple of months.

I think it might well be accompanied with a warning that if cases rise in the autumn restrictions might, alas, have to be reconsidered then (carefully not mentioning the role of schools)

And I expect masks will stay on public transport and in healthcare settings - the former because you are cooped up close to strangers indoors and the latter because that is where you are most likely to be alongside vulnerable people, which will include those for whom the jab may not work well at all.

NannyAndJohn · 23/06/2021 09:43

Let's hope not if we want to avoid another lockdown.

Better to keep low-level restrictions (or even better, reintroduce more) in place while we carry on with vaccination, as letting it rip will cause cases (and therefore hospitalisations, and therefore deaths) to soar.

I really don't want another full lockdown, but it seems most don't care.

Shame.

news.sky.com/story/covid-19-boris-johnson-says-its-looking-good-for-19-july-but-wont-rule-out-further-lockdowns-in-the-winter-12337719

How could they justify more lockdowns in winter when the majority of adults will be double vaccinated (and potentially receiving boosters)?

This worries me far more than a delay to the July date - although I don't think they can justify that either after Ascot/Euros/G7 etc.

@HelloMissus I hope so, I am more than ready, I couldn’t care less about this variant and that variant.

@NannyAndJohn yes, ‘soaring’ cases, hospitalisations and deaths in a country where well over 80% of adults have antibodies (and no doubt a significant percentage of young people too).

toolatetooearly · 23/06/2021 09:50

I'm 100% certain it will happen.

Ladylokidoki · 23/06/2021 09:56

I think they will and I think we will have a repeat of last year.

Summer months, let everyone out. Get money into the economy. Autumn numbers will start rising, leading to a January lockdown/increase in retrictions.
The NHS is, apparently, at breaking point every January. It won't take that many covid cases on top of the usual, to bring the NHS to its knees again.

Bagamoyo1 · 23/06/2021 09:58

No it won't happen.
And as for foreign travel - they'll open up a few countries which just happen to be the ones where MPs have second homes. And they won't do it till mid August when it'll be too late for most of us to get a last minute holiday before school starts again. It'll be OK for MPs though because their summer holidays last till October!

JellyBabiesFan · 23/06/2021 09:59

Stop getting tested and we might be in with a chance. Unless you are seriously unwell what is the point?

Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 10:03

@JellyBabiesFan I 100% agree. I will be making the most of the summer, I will be going here, there and everywhere, I’ve stopped wearing a mask, no one in my family tests anymore, I’m in and out of London every weekend on public transport since April, guess what I’m fine, I don’t know anyone who is ill.

Very unlikely. Plus it’s the Daily Fail, whose idea was it to post a link to that crap? Who in their right mind would own up to reading DM 🤣

Couchbettato · 23/06/2021 10:05

I'm absolutely all for getting back to normality but will there be any pressure on employers to relax their sickness policies and sanctions?

Or will employers just say that's our pandemic quota filled for the next 50-100 years so there's no need to be cautious about coughs and sneezes?

OrangeBananaFish · 23/06/2021 10:06

I lost my hope just over a week ago. I've given up now on it. Nothing will change. There'll be another excuse thrown at us about covid cos absolutely nothing else matters now.

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/06/2021 10:07

Actually scrap that I’ve just seen @Baileysforchristmas defiant ‘I’ve stopped wearing a mask’ line. Yep, deffo a DM reader 😆😂 bless

Junipersky · 23/06/2021 10:07

No. I haven't been able to hug my son since March 2020 and can't imagine it happening any time soon.

bumbleymummy · 23/06/2021 10:08

Why aren’t you hugging your son?

Junipersky · 23/06/2021 10:14

@bumbleymummy

Why aren’t you hugging your son?
He's 22, in an Adult Care Home, has the mind of a baby, no speech, needs constant care and supervision and two carers to support him when out in the community. I have three younger children at home (single parent). Youngest child is also severely disabled. The Home has very strict covid regulations. I've had times when we haven't been able to visit at all, then when we can visit it's the 2 metre rule (social distancing). It's heartbreaking. He doesn't understand why the carers are holding him back from me. He's a 12 month baby trapped in the body of a 22 year old man.
salemcat · 23/06/2021 10:14

7th August in Scotland, will believe it when I see it!

bumbleymummy · 23/06/2021 10:15

That’s awful. I really hope restrictions can be eased for you soon. ♥️

Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 10:17

@Thewiseoneincognito it is in other papers but behind a paywall so can’t post. FYI I have been compliant with mask wearing and regular testing until recently when I can’t see the point anymore when the rules only apply to certain people.

User135644 · 23/06/2021 10:18

@MGMidget

I think they will be lifted to bow to pressure, knowing full well they will be announcing a return to restrictions of some form in the Autumn when new variants or other ‘surprise’ developments will have altered the ‘science’. Of course none of it will be a surprise really!
Foreign holidays probably aren't the best idea in July and August into autumn. That's what's going to bring the variants in.
Baileysforchristmas · 23/06/2021 10:18

@Junipersky that is so sad, I wish this would all end now.

OP posts:
TooManyPlatesInMotion · 23/06/2021 10:21

I hope so. I think public tolerance is wearing thin (the football hasn't helped). Personally, in the last week I have been dialling down my own compliance re masks.
