So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?

The grand Prix is week after this concludes and it hasn't made big news that this is happening eithier it'd first I've heard of it.

We've got tickets, it's made "headlines" in local media. We've been emailed to say it's going ahead although they also said they'd be in touch soon with "info" whatever that means, I'm assuming testing requirements. It's the day before the next supposed freedom day.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 22/06/2021 19:29

@BoredatHome321

It's really frustrating how football gets painted in such a bad light. Nobody even bats an eye at Wimbledon doing the same thing.
You're right, but they're all much of a muchness when it boils down to it. Sport - ok. Theatre, music, travel? Nah. Education? Nope. Bread and circuses indeed. Are we not entertained?
Dustyboots · 22/06/2021 19:30

It's men making the rules. Boris/Hancock/Gove/Sunak/Raab (and Cummings before then

Our whole bloody government is made up of men. It's like going back to the Victorian times. How is this acceptable? Why is it allowed to happen?

Againstmachine · 22/06/2021 19:30

We've got tickets, it's made "headlines" in local media.

It hasn't in main media though for whatever reason.

BoredatHome321 · 22/06/2021 19:33

@UnsolicitedDickPic I totally agree. Unfortunately, it comes down to money. I just can't stand the shit football fans/football get when it's clearly not just football.

userchange8945 · 22/06/2021 19:34

@Againstmachine no I know, I'm surprised it hasn't, Silverstone is a heck of a lot bigger than any of the other events, although also very spread out.

userchange8945 · 22/06/2021 19:35

Well very might be a bit strong actually, but more so than Wimbledon or a football stadium, for those not in grandstands.

Faffinator · 22/06/2021 19:36

@BoredatHome321 nothing to do with which sport the event is for, I feel the same about Wimbledon. I actually have no problem with events going ahead. But to do so when most everything is cancelled for young people (even outdoor events) and school isolations are so widespread is double standards and shows complete disregard for kids and families.

Arcadia · 22/06/2021 19:38

No one is saying sport can't happen but people can watch them on a screen the same way that people are attending funerals and weddings, children's plays and dance shows, and were saying goodbye to their dying relatives not so long ago.
I'm happy for things to be opening up but this is so unfair and no doubt restrictions will ease in time for everyone to pack into the holiday resorts but not in time for any school events to go ahead.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 22/06/2021 19:38

@BoredatHome321 I think it's been class related in the past - a sport for the working classes, easy to pick on. I do think right now sport should be on the back burner but then, I hate sport so I would say that. 😂 All joking aside, the priorities of this government are fucked.

Againstmachine · 22/06/2021 19:39

How it's it allowed you forget some of the women such as Priti Patel and Liz truss.

Problem is they are as incompetent as the men.

BoredatHome321 · 22/06/2021 19:39

@Faffinator I'm not doubting it's double standards at all, I agree. But if you look at this thread already I see the word sexism floating about like women can't like sports etc, it's just crazy.

This is the point and anyone arguing with it is just being obtuse.

Of course women can.

Just no to double standards.

Hard agree with this.

I'm a football fan but it's fucking ridiculous Angry

You haven't heard of Priti Patel, Liz Truss, Kemi Badenoch, Therese Coffey, then?

As for the football. The decision might be taken away from let the bodies pile up crew. As we're a high risk country, others are understandably nervous about coming here.

www.independent.co.uk/sport/euro-2020-venue-wembley-rome-b1870339.html

The prime minister of Italy has suggested that the final of Euro 2020 should be held in Rome, not Wembley, due to rising Covid-19 infection rates in the UK.

yeahdarling · 22/06/2021 19:40

@Delatron

I realised all along! Cheltenham? That Liverpool Madrid match? Pubs opening months before schools last year?

It may be populist but I find on the whole women and children have been unfairly disadvantaged by the pandemic. Women doing most of the home schooling for example. I know there are exceptions but it’s hard not to be angry

Totally agree with this. Lots of school staff are constantly isolating too. Most of them are women.
Bitofachinwag · 22/06/2021 19:43

[quote lurker101]Attendees need either proof of negative test or full vaccination at least two weeks before entry, so it’s not directly comparable to kids events where those attending are largely unvaccinated

A lot could happen in two weeks!

Tealightsandd · 22/06/2021 19:44

Rome is much nicer than London anyway.

Delatron · 22/06/2021 19:45

Yep. Women more likely to be made redundant in the pandemic (due to childcare issues), more likely to be furloughed. Heavily represented in the industries that stayed closed the longest such as beauty, events, travel etc.

Bitofachinwag · 22/06/2021 19:46

@BoredatHome321

It's really frustrating how football gets painted in such a bad light. Nobody even bats an eye at Wimbledon doing the same thing.
But will there be 60 000 people watching the same match? Will they be singing, getting drunk afterwards and crowd together in pubs and streets?
HelloMissus · 22/06/2021 19:47

Of course Italy want the finals.
They’re very likely to be in it (possibly win).
They want to fill up their stadium with home fans and make a packet.

MarshaBradyo · 22/06/2021 19:48

I quite like the euros, the crowd noise etc

But I don’t like seeing dc stuck at home at the same time as it’s going on

Delatron · 22/06/2021 19:49

I have to be honest. It was the scenes of (mainly men) singing, sweating on each other, hugging in pubs that pissed me off at the weekend. Not the actual sitting watching the football. So I’m not as annoyed about Wimbledon...

Choirs aren’t allowed. Weddings have no dancing...
But men watching footie in the pub. Fill her boots!
