So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?

@RichardMarxisinnocent

I see there is a lot of anger about crowds at the euros? Do people feel the same about Wimbledon? That won't be full of men, it will be a mixed crowd. I am a women and have Wimbledon tickets. I'm taking a teenager with me, one who (like many /most children) has had a shit time since last March. They love tennis and are really looking forward to it. As am I, after having had a pretty shit time too.
Well many have had a shit time.

Especially those stuck home for two terms / plus isolations

I’d make sure the isolations / sports days are sorted out first I don’t really care about who goes to Wimbledon

userchange8945 · 22/06/2021 18:52

Silverstone is set to run at full capacity in about 3 weeks time, another trial. 140,000 people, we got our tickets this week.

Ducksurprise · 22/06/2021 18:54

My son isn't allowed to go to the library after school. We are rural -the library being open meant he could study whilst he waited for me to collect his siblings and complete his homework as being rural our Internet is poor (we can't stream anything) This is our closest school.

Apparently catching Covid in the library is Too Risky, so he sits on the bench outside school, normally on his own, in an empty car park, because That Is Safer.

Yet 60,000 drinking people can mix, Scotland Manager can snog Billy, share a coach have a hug... I hope people remember this.

Lanique · 22/06/2021 18:55

I am fucked off like I've never been before now. My Y10 child is out of school for ten days, and this is allowed to happen!

Sylvan92 · 22/06/2021 19:03

Yes I do feel angry and about royal Ascot, particularly as it’s local to me so the contrast between what they’re allowed to do and the limitations being placed on young people is clearer.

But they are not 'trials' are they. It's all a sham.

Againstmachine · 22/06/2021 19:04

That's the problem, it isnt neccessary this event it's the pure double standards of it all.

You stop restricting everyone if this is the case.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 22/06/2021 19:05

I'm all for test events, but this just feels wrong. My DD is supposed to start reception class in September and will have never met her teachers, or even been in the classroom before her first day. I won't be allowed into the room with her, or even into the yard. But 60,000 people can all wave a flag at a football game that the home nations probably won't even be participating in. The optics are awful.

Arcadia · 22/06/2021 19:06

Those who have had children repeatedly in tears over cancelled school events over the past few weeks and months will understand.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 22/06/2021 19:06

I dont care if they do events as long as students benefit from changes first.

So annoyed too and I’ll find it hard to sacrifice for others again after everyone is so happy to ignore dc.

FourteenthDoctor · 22/06/2021 19:13

Come on England!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Football isn't just for men.

I'm pleased this is going ahead

puppeteer · 22/06/2021 19:13

Hmm… you are quite right actually @Delatron.

You’re right to highlight that the costs and benefits have been far from evenly distributed.

I don’t sense that has been the intent. But it’s come about anyway. It doesn’t make me particularly proud to be British to be honest.

Neron · 22/06/2021 19:15

Just my musings, but I wonder how many of the people attending this, were frothing at the mouth over the protests & packed beaches?
Same for the forthcoming horse racing.

Dustyboots · 22/06/2021 19:15

The fact they can do this ... how can anyone believe any of this anymore? It's all bullshit. There is nothing to fear. Our government is laughing at our stupidity.

BoredatHome321 · 22/06/2021 19:17

It's really frustrating how football gets painted in such a bad light. Nobody even bats an eye at Wimbledon doing the same thing.

hamstersarse · 22/06/2021 19:17

It’s always been bollocks

As if anyone in government was ever following the rules

BoredatHome321 · 22/06/2021 19:19

oh, and the Grand Prix that have 140,000 people attending. Let's just get angry at football thoughHmm

userchange8945 · 22/06/2021 19:19

But they are not 'trials' are they. It's all a sham.

I'm pleased we can go but yes it is all a joke now, children's lives still far too curtailed plus theatres. It's very convenient what they've allowed and disallowed.

Chickpeasorchips · 22/06/2021 19:19

How can they restrict youngsters eg late teens early 20s, who have missed out on so much, from being able to mingle in pubs or heaven forbid go to a club, and then they do this. As pp said, the crowds coming out will be ridiculous.

I still can't get over the different treatment by Police of the football crowds to the Sarah Everard vigil crowds.

Arrowheart · 22/06/2021 19:20

It is a fucking disgrace. An absolute fucking disgrace.

Nymo · 22/06/2021 19:21

@RichardMarxisinnocent I feel the same about Wimbledon and Royal Ascot. I enjoy Wimbledon but it does not need to go a head with a full capacity crowd when cases are rising to a degree that we couldn’t unlock. Pretty sure lots of people have had a shit time- myself included but that doesn’t make it right for these big events to go ahead, potentially leading to a further rise in cases and another delay in moving to the next stage. It is the double standards of these big events- I can have 70 people with in the church for my son’s baptism and 50 in the room for a lunch afterwards with social distancing maintained, lateral flows freely available and the majority of adults are double jabbed. But no we now can only have 30 for the actual baptism and no lunch after.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 22/06/2021 19:22

Sexist double standards. What a load of shit this is. Rage, rage, rage.

Booger123 · 22/06/2021 19:22

It’s bread and circuses.

It is very clear.

Againstmachine · 22/06/2021 19:24

oh, and the Grand Prix that have 140,000 people attending. Let's just get angry at football thoughhmm

The grand Prix is week after this concludes and it hasn't made big news that this is happening eithier it'd first I've heard of it.

User135644 · 22/06/2021 19:27

@Delatron

I realised all along! Cheltenham? That Liverpool Madrid match? Pubs opening months before schools last year?

It may be populist but I find on the whole women and children have been unfairly disadvantaged by the pandemic. Women doing most of the home schooling for example. I know there are exceptions but it’s hard not to be angry

It's men making the rules. Boris/Hancock/Gove/Sunak/Raab (and Cummings before then). The only woman with any influence at number 10 is Boris's wife.
