So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?

@newnortherner111 I can’t comment as I haven’t been to Wembley myself, but I imagine most people turning up would comply as the risk of not complying is missing a great evening of football (even if they think the rules themselves are stupid) and wasting presumably a significant amount of money/time on travel and tickets

Faffinator · 22/06/2021 17:34

@lurker101 older kids and parents could easily test though before school events went ahead. I am just furious at the moment and feel so powerless. Would love the euro final to be moved to another country and I can't understand how it is going ahead when we are on the red list of most other countries.

Delatron · 22/06/2021 17:35

It’s complete bullshit and a massive insult it all those kids missing school trips and isolating yet again.

I’m double vaccinated and won’t be following any more ‘restrictions’ after this bollocks. What can we do? I’m so angry.

Yet again men’s sports take precedence.

And yet people will continue to vote for the clueless buffoons in government...
Baileysforchristmas · 22/06/2021 17:38

I said all along children will keep isolating while others in society will carry on, the numbers never go down so children have to keep isolating, a vicious circle. Everyone needs to stop testing children,

Arcadia · 22/06/2021 17:55

@User135644

What the men want, then men get and fuck what happens about the women and children.

They want to keep the men sedated with football (bread and circuses) because if there's public disorder it'll be men causing it.

The Euros is the perfect distraction during the month that 'freedom' has been delayed.

So true

It’s not sexist.

It’s just populist.

It’s how it’s been all along: rules made based on limited or no evidence and certainly without being subject to criticism or debate, but found to be backed by popular support.

Its taken everyone this long to realise!

Baileysforchristmas · 22/06/2021 18:12

I just read in the Guardian 250,000 children are isolating at the moment 😲 while football fans and football players have their freedom 😞

Delatron · 22/06/2021 18:17

I realised all along! Cheltenham? That Liverpool Madrid match? Pubs opening months before schools last year?

It may be populist but I find on the whole women and children have been unfairly disadvantaged by the pandemic. Women doing most of the home schooling for example. I know there are exceptions but it’s hard not to be angry

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 22/06/2021 18:22

It’s quite infuriating. I’m not against big events taking place and I’m glad they’re happening again, but not while other events are still not allowed. Not while children’s transition days and sports days and parties are curtailed. And if no one in the Scotland team has to isolate after one of them tested positive, why the fuck do our children have to isolate over and over again for less contact?

MarshaBradyo · 22/06/2021 18:23

Yep this football v children isolating / cancelling stuff is the limit

Yes they are - poor school sent email with this wrangling with repeated isolations

Thankfully yr11 and out but it’s a huge mess for children

It’s bloody ridiculous. My DD’s sports day is cancelled because the local athletics stadium refused to host them. There was no attempt to find a way to mitigate risks eg make sure every child attending does a lateral flow test before attending. The Scotland football squad has a player test positive but the rest of the squad can play tonight. Meanwhile, if an asymptomatic 10 year old tests positive the whole class has to stay at home for ten days. Nonsense.

Excellent news.

Another sign that we are getting back to normality, albeit slowly. The more trials that are done into outdoor events, the more we learn about how they they can run safely which is a very good thing for the tens of thousands of people who work in that sector. It really isn’t the same thing as children going to school indoors at all so the two shouldn’t be compared.

I just wish I had a ticket for Wembley.

All for events

Children should benefit first though.

Do you have any dc at school out of interest?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 22/06/2021 18:33

Why does football trump everything?

Fuck that.

BarefootHippieChick · 22/06/2021 18:35

Not as bad as 3 days moshpitting at download Festival

There were only 10,000 at Download, not 60,000

BlowDryRat · 22/06/2021 18:37

It's ridiculous and I'm angry. My son is moving up to secondary school in September. He hasn't even been allowed on the premises because of the Covid restrictions. His school trips have been cancelled. He's missed 2 full terms of education and seeing his friends. Women attending a vigil for Sarah Everard were arrested and broken up by the police. But men can have the Euros and Silverstone Angry

HelloMissus · 22/06/2021 18:39

I was in St Pancs earlier and it’s busy with fans having a beer etc

AgeLikeWine · 22/06/2021 18:43

Children should benefit first though.

I don’t have school age children, so I’m not suggesting that the situation in schools is being managed well, or badly. I have no idea.

What I do know is that It’s not an either/or. Schools are not the same thing as large-scale outdoor events, and it makes absolutely no sense to compare them.

Againstmachine · 22/06/2021 18:44

No mention of the demand that 2500 'VIPs' from UEFA be allowed to bypass the rules I see.

One rule for some, another for everyone else.

It does because we are using lower hospitalisation / case link to do these new things.

And that should be afforded to children first.

So it’s not about comparing but prioritisation.

Baileysforchristmas · 22/06/2021 18:45

Yeah in the Daily Mail about football fans enjoying a beer in the pubs before the game

I see there is a lot of anger about crowds at the euros? Do people feel the same about Wimbledon? That won't be full of men, it will be a mixed crowd. I am a women and have Wimbledon tickets. I'm taking a teenager with me, one who (like many /most children) has had a shit time since last March. They love tennis and are really looking forward to it. As am I, after having had a pretty shit time too.

PixieKitten · 22/06/2021 18:48

I've been to a certain north London stadium many times and when 60k fans leave it's incredible. It actually puts me off going. It's like being in a sea of bodies and getting dragged along

Don't even get me started on the tube! Lots of masks under noses no doubt
