So angry. How far can they push this 'test/research events' bullshit? Why is everything in my child's life being cancelled and yet this gets to go ahead?

I’ll ignore @Againstmachine as I don’t understand his/her point. Maybe I’m just stupid!

You are ignoring that many women like sports, so why emailing a woman mp will get a better response I don't know.

Delatron · 22/06/2021 21:02

@Againstmachine Well yes many women like sport but I would say the football crowds are disproportionately male. Especially the crowds in the pubs. As we’ve seen on here many women have school age children who are isolating and are frustrated. I’ve had this conversation with DH tonight and he doesn’t give a shit! Loves the football.

Now I’d really like to be wrong here. I’d love it if all the male mps could try and understand where we’re coming from. Hopefully some will.

Arcadia · 22/06/2021 21:07

@Delatron

I don’t know what can be done? Email MPs? They may not listen. More chance if a woman.
Funnily enough I emailed my female labour MP this afternoon (who I know has school children) to get it off my chest!

Arcadia and Delatron are you Cons or Labour MP?

Delatron · 22/06/2021 21:19

@MarshaBradyo were full on Conservative here.
But she was supportive to my friend on another issue (local development) and spent the time putting an objection in and had a phone call with her. So might be receptive

Delatron · 22/06/2021 21:19

We’re

Weirdly I think that helps

We’re Labour and it now worries me if Labour put something forward Cons will be annoying and do the opposite

Arcadia · 22/06/2021 21:25

@MarshaBradyo Labour. None of it will make any difference but it made me feel slightly better.

OP posts:
Delatron · 22/06/2021 21:29

Yeah it’s definitely worth a go with my Conservative mp @MarshaBradyo she’s new to the constituency so may listen. I’m using the women/children angle even if some don’t approve.

Oh I agree with you. Women and children angle is good. It’s not just us that thinks it, lots of stats.
Delatron · 22/06/2021 21:35

Yes there’s stats out there that back this up. Have been doing research!

[quote lurker101]Attendees need either proof of negative test or full vaccination at least two weeks before entry, so it’s not directly comparable to kids events where those attending are largely unvaccinated

And you honestly think that will happen?!

bristolone · 22/06/2021 21:46

For the group games you only had to do a lateral flow test at home. How easy would it be to do it incorrectly or just not swab properly at all?

LemonCake79 · 22/06/2021 21:54

And meanwhile all parents are banned from my primary aged DCs sports day. 😡

Endofether · 22/06/2021 21:58

Such hypocrisy

G7 in Cornwall spread cv around , sticking 5k police on a boat ! The massive bbq with no social distancing or masks !

In a county with like 20 hospital beds. Thanks Boris !

lurker101 · 22/06/2021 22:45

@tonystarksrighthand at some point you have to trust other people to play by the rules otherwise you’d never leave the house 🤷‍♀️
The risk of rocking up and being turned away from a fun/expensive game would provide quite an incentive to comply you would hope if people have an inch of common sense

justwanttodanceagain · 23/06/2021 00:13

What I find the most amazing it that there are still people out there who think that this Tory government is on their side!!

NB I've voted Tory in every election except the last one when faced with Boris or Corbyn, I couldn't bring myself to actually vote...

Well if it's safe for 60,000 football fans to crowd onto underground trains and into Wembley stadium, it's time for a full return of Parliament.

Tealightsandd · 23/06/2021 00:18

MPs need to lead by example.

MercyBooth · 23/06/2021 00:32

And for journalists to be in the same room as the politicians during press conferences not on a screen.

Furries · 23/06/2021 01:47

TBF, at some point they’ve got to test what the results are of this kind of mixing.

I haven’t followed closely, but I don’t think there was a huge fallout from the test club nights they held in Liverpool recently (and that was indoor mixing in a hot and sweaty environment).

So am happy for a bunch of football fans to be the guinea pigs in another test environment.

I get why, on the surface, it’s annoying and looks like a slap in the face. But various scenarios need to be tried and monitored - and I’d rather they did it this way than absolutely everything being a free-for-all at the same time.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 23/06/2021 02:55

I agree. Time for Parliament to return without restrictions

I don't care if people don't follow the rules. I still leave the house. I've never been taken in by the fear and scaremongering.

I'm just glad others are now waking up to this.

Bluesheep8 · 23/06/2021 06:54

It's infuriating. I'm in an area you're 'advised' not to travel in or out of. Yet it seems if you wear a football shirt and go to Wembley it's ok not only to travel out of said area but also to climb all over other people in pubs, in the street or on the terraces Hmm
