I like the "no freedoms even when you do take the vaccine"

and the "covid passports"

ones. Its like, in some small possible way, they could actually be linked to each other

MrsKeats · 22/06/2021 10:44

*theories

knittingaddict · 22/06/2021 10:44

@SofiaMichelle

Those are not conspiracy theories, OP.
I agree.

They only step over into conspiracy theories when someone says that it's all for some nefarious purpose like the Great Reset or some other plan of world domination.

The op is conflating what happens with why it happens. For instance lockdowns happen, but they are to control the spread of a virus and stop it getting out of control, not to crash the economy for a reason that no conspiracy theorist can ever explain.

Quartz2208 · 22/06/2021 10:49

TO be fair I did have a discussion with the OP on another thread about how lockdowns have to continue because vaccines are under emergency use and therefore need lockdowns in order to be given.

So I agree knittingaddict the OP is conflating correct idea that Vaccines have been licensed for emergency use only and that data is still being collected (DH had moderna and that had a load of bumph about it) and needing a lockdown in order to continue vaccinating

  • exactly. Conspiracy theories take something that is happening or is very likely to happen and attribute it to some sort of ‘master plan’. If they took things that weren’t ever going to happen they would have no success in influencing people.

They may be nuts but not entirely stupid.

OldTurtleNewShell · 22/06/2021 10:55

Agree that those aren't conspiracy theories. Is there anyone who genuinely thought we wouldn't be aiming to vaccinate children as well as adults?
And I think the original lockdowns were clearly optimistic.

[quote TatianaBis]Conventional wisdom is that RNA cannot affect DNA.

However a Harvard/MIT preprint indicated Covid RNA may be reverse transcribed in human cells. In support of its hypothesis the study found evidence that DNA sequences can be integrated into the cell genome and subsequently be transcribed (a process called ‘retro-integration’) and shows viable cellular pathways by which this happens.

We found chimeric transcripts consisting of viral fused to cellular sequences in published data sets of SARS-CoV-2 infected cultured cells and primary cells of patients, consistent with the transcription of viral sequences integrated into the genome.

SARS-CoV-2 RNAs can be reverse transcribed in human cells by reverse transcriptase (RT) from LINE-1 elements or by HIV-1 RT, and that these DNA sequences can be integrated into the cell genome and subsequently be transcribed.

Human endogenous LINE-1 expression was induced upon SARS-CoV-2 infection or by cytokine exposure in cultured cells, suggesting a molecular mechanism for SARS-CoV-2 retro-integration in patients.

This novel feature of SARS-CoV-2 infection may explain why patients can continue to produce viral RNA after recovery and suggests a new aspect of RNA virus replication.

@TatianaBis

I expect you might already know this, but the study authors have already explained several times this is something very specific in the context of coronavirus infection, not vaccination

the anti-vaxxers leading the mRNA vaccines alter DNA claims are still saying it's because we somehow have reverse transcriptase and integrase floating around our cells, when it's patently untrue

more reason to have the vaccine and not risk infection, if you're someone who worries about it

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great replies.

Covid passports, vaccines for children, lockdowns not ending, virus from wuhan lab, no freedoms even when you do take the vaccine, deaths from healthy people having the Covid vaccine, vaccines altering DNA (Mrna does enter dna) lockdown again this winter.... I could go on actually. It’s funny until you really look at it.

Covid passport: where? Vaccines for children: how is this a "conspiracy theory"? Lockdowns not ending: will be in 4wks, no? Virus from Wuhan lab: zero evidence. Labs tend to study what's prevalent in the local area. Lots of Covid type viruses in the area and a 'wet' market that'd previously been flagged as a risk. Correlation does not equal causation. Deaths from healthy people who've had the vaccine: no vaccine is 100% effective. Infections, hospitalisations & death greatly reduced by social measures & vaccine. Vaccines altering DNA: mRNA is not the same as DNA, you can't combine them or alter DNA with mRNA. It's like claiming the physical structure of your car is altered when you hang an air freshener from the mirror. Hmm
WeAllHaveWings · 22/06/2021 11:09

You might want to look up the definition of conspiracy theory op.

Things that people predicted, that might have seemed unfathomable to some at the time, or people were in denial about, are not conspiracy theories.

AlfonsoTheMango · 22/06/2021 11:17

@riveted1

vaccines altering DNA (Mrna does enter dna)

@sunnnysideup

eh?? we need a bit more context on this one! What do you mean?

mRNA definitely can't enter DNA as it makes literally no sense, do you mean enter the nucleus?

Would quite like some references for this as there's no precedent for 1) mRNA being able to get into the nucleus or once it does, 2) being converted back into cDNA (requires a special enzyme we don't have - reverse transcriptase), and 3) then integrating into your own DNA (again requires fancy enzyme we don't have - integrase)

What is all this science nonsense? I mean, just because you know what you're talking about... Grin

Xenia · 22/06/2021 11:24

Lots of people have different views and reasons for them from aliens to simply proving the Government has changed the rules.

Some points made early on by those of us who are against lockdowns have been shown to be valid. Other weird views of some are clearly not true.

SlightlyJaded · 22/06/2021 11:25

I think you are confusing conspiracies with predictions.

They are not the same at all.

Funfortheroad · 22/06/2021 11:32

Vaccination of children fucking duh of course it will happen

Why are these Conspiracy theories they make absolute sense

A) It won’t happen to my children thanks.
B) Why does it make ‘absolute sense’ to vaccinate children against a virus that mostly causes them no symptoms or mild symptoms and that hadn’t killed one healthy child in the U.K? Or do you genuinely think it makes ‘absolute sense’ to give children a new vaccine with no long-term safety data and very little short-term safety data to use them as human shields for those who can’t or won’t get vaccinated?

Just a note, if even one healthy child dies of a vaccine reaction it will make the vaccine more dangerous than the virus for healthy children.

RealhousewifeofStoke · 22/06/2021 11:38

‘Just a note, if even one healthy child dies of a vaccine reaction it will make the vaccine more dangerous than the virus for healthy children.’

How many deaths in children from Covid have been recorded worldwide?

Fortunately we no longer live in the middle ages. Otherwise we would be counting the death by hundred of millions like the plague. Covid passports, vaccines, lockdowns and restricting contact between people are preventing a NEW, very contagious virus to reduce world population by half. Chalk it up to science and health experts, mostly epidemiologists, that most of us are still on the net talking about conspiracy posts instead of being dead.

Just because we live in an age where you think we humans are indestructible socially, we are not. Human beings are just another species fully susceptible to be destroyed by a virus unless preventable measures are taken.

Fortunately for you and people who think like you, there are scientists working 24/7 to prevent this pandemic to kill more than the millions already killed, and governments that with mistakes and political pressures, are all trying to do their best.

VerticalHorizon · 22/06/2021 11:43

Approx 0.01% is the mortality rate in children, but there are a lot of covariables.

TatianaBis · 22/06/2021 11:43

@riveted1

I made no comment on vaccination, I posted that piece of research wrt to the issue of RNA integration into the genome.

The authors were very careful to emphasise the precise remit of their study - that it was conducted in a lab not on human subjects and that it concerned viral not vaccine RNA.

It’s important to note that this was only one piece of research so more work needs to be done to determine whether this hypothesis holds true.

As to the point you raised about vaccinations - vaccine RNA may or may not behave in the same way as viral RNA, without further research it’s impossible to say.

ddl1 · 22/06/2021 11:49

Children very rarely actually die of Covid; that's true. But they are not immune to long Covid.

Mrbob · 22/06/2021 11:57

Not being funny but if I was going to try and hide microchips in a vaccine or somehow alter the laws of biology and alter your DNA I would do it in one that everyone actually has already and doesn’t question (wouldn’t be hard given the number of vaccines all the conspiracy theorists have over their lifetime and don’t go endlessly on about)

An insane number of people on here seem very scientifically illiterate and completely unable to see the point of vaccines. It is depressing. If it was just for personal protection and you chose not to have it and accept the risk of a slow painful death then go for it. No fucks given. But there are people that can’t have it and it is not 100% effective therefore to reach herd immunity and protect the people YOU allegedly love then you have it. Not rocket science

KisstheTeapot14 · 22/06/2021 12:09

@pinktables I agree with you. I think a lot of conspiracy theories are put out as a distraction, a sleight of hand to take attention away from more genuine questions about power, influence and money.

Manipulation of information and side tracking have always been useful tactics in the world of politics. It might have been leaflet drops from planes in the past (see airbourne leaflet propoganda on wiki) but these days those who wish to try this also have the entire internet to play with.

youshouldbeplotting · 22/06/2021 12:18

@KisstheTeapot14 so are you saying that there is a conspiracy to disseminate conspiracy theories?

spiracy theories

KisstheTeapot14 · 22/06/2021 12:23

Yup.

Some.

As well as some obviously bonkers people with their own unique views on reality. Who these are, of course, depends on your own unique view of reality.

Trying to work out what's 'true' is pretty much a full time job these days.

Life was so much simpler in feudal times where the fear of god could be used as a simple tool to keep us in line and asking less questions.

Sonarl · 22/06/2021 12:28

@SisyphusDad

I agree. It's really bad. Every now and again my vision goes completely blue and a message saying 'Windows 10 needs to reboot' pops up. I never used to get that.
Ok then,

You can't be a nursery nurse or work with children if you have a conviction for sexual assault or possession of child pornography.

You cant be a scientist without a science degree.

You can't be a virologist or a molecular biologist without understanding what DNA is, the different types of RNA, how cells work, how various types of virus work and the complex interplay between them all.
