We're going to have another lockdown aren't we?

So yesterday we got very quick messages for 2nd vaccine 4 weeks after first and a lot of people were saying that's quick...also today school has said they're cancelling all trips too due coronavirus. I guess there's fear it will get a lot worse...honestly think it will be another year or more before things get better...

@leafygarden42 where does it say there the nhs is suggesting a lockdown in autumn as other people suggest.?

The message is something I’d expect. There is a lot of young people left to vaccinate yet and they’re the ones that are getting infected atm.

For the record I live in the southwest. We currently have a 120 incidence. Seems like there is local transmission atm (I know 3 restaurants closed atm cuz of staff positives). Only 4 people in the hospitals and none in ventilators. Nothing like back in January.

BobISMyUncle · 19/06/2021 13:33

How many people, in crowded areas, are STILL not wearing a face mask? The football thing last night was a prime example. All those people. Yuk. Brazil? All those people, with a president in denial? No one even trying to wear a face mask. Yuk. The Indian variant? All those people, bathing in that river?
No thanks. I've had my two jabs, and still I do not feel safe. Not while there are people in denial, or refusing. I'm only 80% safe. That leaves 20% of people out there, able to get close to me, breathe on me, stand too close (there's a song about that!) or, touch me. I'm keeping well away from the public, thank you. I absolutely expect another lockdown, indeed, I welcome it. When do people start getting the hang of this?

TheKeatingFive · 19/06/2021 13:45

Probably because outdoor transmission is extremely rare.

You’re fully vaccinated and that’s as good as it gets for now. We’re not going to eliminate this thing, so we’ll have to get used to it. Of course if you want to hide away for ever, that’s up to you, but unless you’re incredibly vulnerable then your risk now is very small.

RaspberryCoulis · 19/06/2021 13:49

And also because there is no law requiring you to wear a mask outside.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 19/06/2021 13:59

No because according to Boris and the like, the way out of lockdowns is vaccination. If he was to lockdown again it would be like admitting that the vaccinations aren't as good as we were led to believe and he won't want to do that.

Chillychangchoo · 19/06/2021 14:08

@BobISMyUncle

Bet you’re fun at a party.

Quartz2208 · 19/06/2021 14:12

@BobISMyUncle when are you going to feel safe?

People are getting the hang I think of realising that double vaccinated is as good as it gets (and actually I think it is around 95% for protection against severe illness) and are living with it

leafygarden42 · 19/06/2021 14:14

@EasterIssland - it did not say about lockdown again - just about surge testing.

Someonetookmyname · 19/06/2021 14:16

@BobISMyUncle

You seriously need to get some help.

If you want to live in a hysterical bubble for the rest of your life over a virus that is statistically unlikely to harm you that’s fine. But you can’t expect everyone else to lockdown forever with you.

Imnothereforthedrama · 19/06/2021 17:15

If you want to stay home stay home that’s fine but understand people want to live and if it’s allowed that you can go to a football match they will .
I think for some people especially 1 or 2 on mumsnet don’t quite grasp that not everyone wants to live in constant fear of leaving the house so they would rather call those irresponsible. I mean really what are you hiding away from ? .

Bythemillpond · 19/06/2021 20:45

No thanks. I've had my two jabs, and still I do not feel safe

So what was the point of getting vaccinated?

sunnnysideup · 19/06/2021 21:16

Of course there will be another lockdown, we’re not even fully out of lockdown and won’t be anytime this year. The media is already priming everyone for it. Your vaccine was pointless.

You stay home then but don't expect everyone else to. If you don't feel safe after 2 vaccinations that's your problem, not mine.

What’s your proof for this to carry on next year ?
Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/06/2021 21:24

@leafygarden42

The NHS doesn't know any more than the rest of us.

The following passage is from NHS Cumbria - where they are doing surge testing for 18 to 30 year olds.

Infections have risen from 35 cases per week at the end of May to 250 per week now, and concerns have grown that many Cumbrians remain vulnerable to the virus.

Nearly 150,000 Cumbrians have not been vaccinated yet and around 85,000 people have so far only received one dose of the vaccine. People who have only had one dose have significantly less protection from the new Delta variant of the virus which is now circulating.

That doesn't mean they know anything about future lockdowns.
TurquoiseDress · 20/06/2021 09:45

I for one bloody hope not!

Getting used to & enjoying things now opened up for the last several weeks

We are hoping to get on holiday abroad in August, although that may not be as clear cut, we'll need to see what the official rules are in July

Dnaltocs · 20/06/2021 13:22

Yes I think we will have another lockdown soon.
I saw info another site and thought I’d do a good turn and write this.
Evidently on line we can buy a small disk that lets us be aware the amount of Carbon Dioxide there is in each room. This could be useful for teachers and other school staff as well as office staff. Evidently windows are not always open in work spaces as the health authorities advise, closed windows in classrooms is unsafe. If children are cold let them wear cardigans or jumpers. We must keep windows open.

I didn’t know windows were being closed. As Mums, perhaps we need to ask teachers to keep windows open and to get one of these Carbon Dioxide monitor devices.
Yes we’ll have lockdown!0

Suranjeep · 20/06/2021 13:33

@Dnaltocs what relevance do those little disks have to the original question. (Although I see how you’ve sandwiched the disks thing between the lockdown Q

Do you have a financial interest in the disk?

Dnaltocs · 20/06/2021 14:36

Suranjeep. Of course No financial interest. Strange you’d think that during a pandemic. It’s called caring for others as well as my children. I mentioned as we’re mums trying to do the best for our children. Or so I thought.
Fresh air is imperative and sometimes classrooms have closed windows.

Suranjeep · 20/06/2021 15:27

What has that got to do with this topic? Maybe start a thread about the wonderdisk.

Why is it strange for people to have a financial interest in Covid? See current government and all their cronies.

PrincessNutNuts · 20/06/2021 19:03

Well the main driver of spread that kicked off the third wave was in schools so covid spread in schools is rather pertinent to the topic of the next lockdown I would say.

Since the government's failure to put anything effective in place in schools is a large part of why we're having a third wave, air quality and ventilation in classrooms is pretty relevant.

sunnnysideup · 20/06/2021 22:13

@EasterIssland The vaccines are approved for emergency use authorisation only (pandemic) they have not completed clinical trials. The first stage of clinical trials finishes in October this year the final stage is 2023! No lockdown = no vaccines. Kids are next in line this autumn so how are they going to vaccinate the vast number of children in the UK without emergency use authorisation? Lockdowns that’s how.

We’re still in the “just 3 weeks to flatten the curve” lockdown but some people still don’t seem to grasp what’s actually going on. 🙃

3asAbird · 20/06/2021 22:18

I think we will drag through summer with cases rising.
I would be surprised if we don't have lockdown 4 before November.
I think some say kids off be fire break.
But loads will mingle and go away over summer break.
Also we have big sporting events happening.
International travel.

Happynewtier · 20/06/2021 22:19

@bluebird I feel exactly the same. Well and truly sick to death of wearing a mask for 12 hours straight when so many customers aren't bothering, or moaning about having to wear one for 20 mins. I stand behind a screen for 10-12 hour shifts and have to keep the mask on the entire time. It's really taking its toll now. My skin is horrendous and my asthma has got worse in the hot stuffy weather, so I think as of July I will pull the exempt card. I think a more longterm viable solution for shop workers needs to be put in place if social distancing is kept in place. I'm more than happy to wear one while out shopping myself, but at work I can't do it anymore.

Quartz2208 · 20/06/2021 22:27

The vaccines are yes emergency use only but that is based on being on a pandemic - being in lockdown is not a criteria for this at all. What makes you think it is.

You seem to say that in order to have clearance to vaccinate we need to be in lockdown - the two are separate
