We're going to have another lockdown aren't we?

So yesterday we got very quick messages for 2nd vaccine 4 weeks after first and a lot of people were saying that's quick...also today school has said they're cancelling all trips too due coronavirus. I guess there's fear it will get a lot worse...honestly think it will be another year or more before things get better...

@TheKeatingFive

it's calculations that weren't wrong even though they were wrong

There was ‘noise’ in the data apparently.

Was that "noise" the blowing of raspberries @TheKeatingFive 😁
Sparklingbrook · 18/06/2021 19:31

'Noisy data' sounds v serious indeed. Grin

Definitely NHS rumours re September lockdown

TheKeatingFive · 18/06/2021 20:07

The ‘nhs’ doesn’t decide when we lockdown

The NHS doesn't know any more than the rest of us.
Bythemillpond · 18/06/2021 20:13

I wonder what the next lockdown will look like?
Nobody appeared to be locking down during the last lockdown apart from a few who were enjoying the whole drama of it and could actually afford it.
For most people it was business as usual apart from shops and hospitality

I can’t see how they can announce another lockdown and expect people to actually follow it.

TheKeatingFive · 18/06/2021 20:17

Where I am (ROI) beauty services and even pubs were operating underground between Jan and March.

The exchequer would lose out big time with another lockdown.

I doubt this wave will drag on until September, it should have peaked and plateaued by that point especially with schools closed for the summer. If anything the next wave will be well into autumn / winter simply through more indoor mixing with less ventilation due to people keeping windows and doors closed to keep warm.

Who knows though, we’ll no doubt have some other variant to contend with. It’s more or less impossible to plot our path in terms of future lockdowns but the NHS will be preparing for further waves across many different scenarios.

EasterIssland · 18/06/2021 20:27

Is this the thread when we predict when the 100k cases and 20k hospitalisations a day is going to happen then?

HeronLanyon · 18/06/2021 20:28

Hypothetically though wouldn’t a September lockdown (let’s hope not) be to reduce the autumn wave. Surely we are not going to continue to react too late ?

Just wait for Whitty and Vallance to come one TV with their predictions and graphs again

4billion cases per day by 1st Sept

Someonetookmyname · 18/06/2021 21:18

We ‘d better bloody not do!!

Seriously, with the elderly, vulnerable and lots of others vaccinated now how on earth could they justify it!!??

shewalkslikerihanna · 18/06/2021 21:20

@Bluebird2021

if masks are staying then i'm going to become exempt

i work in a very hot store, wearing a mask 9 hours a day. combined with menopause and glasses its causing me some problems now

You’ve done more than your bit Go for it
Someonetookmyname · 18/06/2021 21:21

@HeronLanyon

We’ve reacted early this time - by jabbing all the people likely to overwhelm the NHS. Lockdown was only ever to stop the NHS being overwhelmed - no real danger of that happening now.

Yes I think there’s an epsilon variant next
Closely followed by a Gamma

Well only by all the non covid cases like cancers and hip operations etc that got cancelled for the sake of covid

shewalkslikerihanna · 18/06/2021 21:28

For not by

Grin how quickly statements of fact turn into predictions.. then projections.. now just noisy old data.

RampantIvy · 18/06/2021 22:11

he vaccine is working well so I think we’re going to have to start living with Covid now.

The anti vaxxers will be the fly in the ointment.

Mollymoostoo · 18/06/2021 22:15

@Sparklingbrook

We need one continuous thread for this. Titled ‘Coronavirus Doom and Gloom come for a wallow in it’ or something.
My thoughts exactly. Some people love living in the drama of this, I don't bother reading the papers now, they just want to paint the world as being a total mess and feed into paranoia.
OohThatCat · 18/06/2021 22:23

The longer this goes on, the more people are vaccinated and the less they will comply. So no, I don’t think there will be another lockdown, we’re done.

Maybe the nhs have a doom and gloom online thread like we do. Aren't we also starting rumours?!
TungTungMum · 19/06/2021 01:31

Covid-19 seems getting worse recently.
Amount of confirmed cases is increasing.

Have your DC secondary student received Covid-19 vaccination?

leafygarden42 · 19/06/2021 06:34

The NHS doesn't know any more than the rest of us.

The following passage is from NHS Cumbria - where they are doing surge testing for 18 to 30 year olds.

Infections have risen from 35 cases per week at the end of May to 250 per week now, and concerns have grown that many Cumbrians remain vulnerable to the virus.

Nearly 150,000 Cumbrians have not been vaccinated yet and around 85,000 people have so far only received one dose of the vaccine. People who have only had one dose have significantly less protection from the new Delta variant of the virus which is now circulating.
