Do you think they will extend the lockdown or stick with 21st June As Freedom day?

I hope they don't extend, because it moves the goalposts and then could lead to another extension. As it optional to go to certain places like clubs, when they open, then people vaccinated or not can make their choice.

I sadly think they will extend it and ruin my party planned for the end of June.

Surely we want to get healthcare back on track and the delays caught up?
I’d imagine that should be a priority to focus on.

What happens if cases still going up in 4w? Same again? This decision surely means no countries will be back on the green list in that period.

They will extend for 4 weeks.

Mabelone I think international travel isn't related to this round of easing restrictions, so even if everything went back to normalish in the UK there would still be travel restrictions iyswim ?

frumpety · 13/06/2021 22:37

My theory is they are now frightened of the NHS backlog caused by the lockdowns.

It is indeed a worry, but let's not forget there was a sizeable backlog before the pandemic. This has simply added to a problem that was already there. If the population grows and ages and you reduce the number of beds available, you are never going to be in a good position when Winter pressures hit, never mind a pandemic. Add to that decreases in local council budgets and therefore a reduction in social services budgets and you are looking at the perfect storm.

Agree @frumpety

International travel was never part of the road map....so even if everything were to open up in U.K... Could still be months ( or years) before all countries are on green list

Which is exactly what the article says....and why we need to be wary of overloading the NHS.
frumpety · 13/06/2021 23:19

@HazeyJaneII I don't work in a hospital setting so my workload hasn't really been effected by Covid in the traditional NHS sense, there is no physical ward, so no maximum number of beds, so we can never be 'full', people are admitted to the caseload by need, regardless of the capacity of the service.

Well they can't postpone opening up for much longer then if financial support is going to be removed. Can't expect people to live on air!

#I'mDone is trending on Twitter

Seems the pictures of a group of non socially distancing, non-mask wearers putting their arms round each other and standing close together in Carbis Bay have touched a nerve Wink
