I can’t bear the thought of another full lockdown but it seems inevitable

I’ve only just this week been allowed to see sister without social distancing, as she lives in residential care, had a lovely meal and a big hug but at the end all I could think was, will it be another year before we can meet again? She’s been hugely, horribly affected by this virus - she’s dreadfully ill through anxiety - and has been only just told this week she can see two relatives and one friend, and she might be allowed back to day care services the end of this month - first time since Feb 2020 .

I can’t bear the thought of another year indoors, no haircuts, no socialising, no shopping, no travel, no seeing sister or friends or family ...

I live in a tiny village with shit public transport that was largely stoped over both lockdowns ... can’t bear another year in this three mile square and relying on online delivery and zoom ... GP rang this morning and even yapping to her I thought, how lovely it would be to see someone else face to face - most friends and family are still heavily avoiding all socialising, this is my experience of most people now that there’s a lot of fear and anxiety around covid .

I realise restrictions are necessary and probably inevitable, and things could be so so much worse - but I’m struggling so much now . Finding I’m dreading getting out of bed as I keep thinking, what’s coming next?

How many times do people need to be told cases are irrelevant if hospitalisations and deaths are falling or flat, or even increasing slightly. Lockdown was to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed it’s not even close to that and won’t be because all of the vulnerable people (remember this means over 60s not every adult as some people are leaving now) are double vaccinated. The goal is not and never will be to eradicate covid that is impossible. There will not be another lockdown and those that think there will be really need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

NannyAndJohn · 04/06/2021 17:34

@Newgirls

It’s over 50% adult population fully vaccinated (not 40))
It's not the percentage of adults we need to look at.

It's the percentage of adults and children.

And we need more than 85% of adults and children vaccinated if we want to get out of this mess. Fewer than 40% so far.

SonnetForSpring · 04/06/2021 17:34

Plus you do realise a lot of over 80's had their jabs ages ago and the immunity drops away faster in older people so they may not be protected enough from this delta variant.

Moondust002 · 04/06/2021 17:35

@osbertthesyrianhamster

We're not coming back to the UK if they pull this lockdown shit again. Enough is enough.
Yep. I'll be leaving if this continues. I've had enough of it. And if the vaccines don't work effectively enough - and I have no reason to think they don't - then bring it on... we cannot live our lives like this any longer.

Katie, hospitalizations will increase. We know this but many want to actually see it happening. That means you are risking people dying before taking action.
NannyAndJohn · 04/06/2021 17:36

You're happy with hundreds of thousands of cases a day, @Bluntness100?

SonnetForSpring · 04/06/2021 17:36

"Bring it on"? I'm assuming you haven't seen someone suffering from covid and struggling for every breath.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/06/2021 17:37

@FontyMcFontface

I won't be going into lockdown

Might kind of have to though if everything’s shut- schools, workplaces and shops. And the police are enforcing the stay home policy like they were last two times here at least.

The police can't be everywhere at once. Unless they stalk me they won't know that I'm having people over, which I will do. I'm not social distancing from family and friends ever again.

Spot on. Can't see how they're going to give the younger age groups their first doses while giving the vulnerable their boosters at the same time. It's a logistical nightmare.
MarshaBradyo · 04/06/2021 17:38

Not sure this thread will make you feel better op

We’ll find out more on June 14

inmyslippers · 04/06/2021 17:38

I've not followed lockdown rules for some time. Thankfully my neighbours are of a similar mindset and everyone minds their business.

BelleBlueBell · 04/06/2021 17:41

@NannyAndJohn

Yep, it's coming.

Cases doubling every four days means we'll hit 100,000 a day by the 21st June.

Best we all accept that we'll be spending the rest of the year in lockdown instead of sticking our heads in the sand and pretending that everything's okay.

Do you have a link please, when I look on the Gov website it shows cases by reporting date is about 50% higher than last Friday
Newgirls · 04/06/2021 17:41

Nanny you seem to want bad news. It’s adults that get ill which is why the vaccination program has focused on that. We are on target to offer vaccines to all over 18s this summer. Booster prog is already being planned. Pfizer jabs for over 12s approved. A full scale lockdown is very unlikely. Though this shit gov still hasn’t got a handle on flights...

Notonthestairs · 04/06/2021 17:42

Am I the only that doesn't think there will be another lockdown?

Furlough is due to end.
Large group of backbencher MP threatening rebellion.
6 weeks til the end of term.
40% fully vaccinated - all adults should be fully vaccinated by August/September. Then we will get boosters.

Suspect they'll keep some measures (SD and masks, maybe limited numbers) but hope that the summer keeps everyone outside.

No idea about winter.

AledsiPad · 04/06/2021 17:43

They can't actually enforce it if people stop complying with this madness.

STOP DOING IT TO YOURSELVES.

What is the fucking point of any of it - ruining children's lives and spending billions on vaccinating if they close again?

Fuck that shit. We won't be doing it.

No not the only one I agree with you

But also not in winter, more will be vaccinated by then

You are the most negative Nancy out there. And likely wrong.

I don't think there will be. Delays to full reopening on June 21st almost certain. Perhaps pubs/restaurants going back to outdoors only if things get worse. Can't see another full lockdown happening. There won't be enough compliance for a start. We've been told vaccinations are the way out of this, so once people are vaccinated they will do what they want. I include myself in that.

I may be wrong but I disagree. Numbers were low so doubling every 4 days still (at the minute) doesn’t necessarily mean large numbers. The spread mainly seems to be in people not vaccinated, so younger age groups especially secondary school kids. Who thankfully aren’t badly affected. The sharp rise in cases doesn’t seem to be replicated in other age groups.

So I’m hoping this shows even one vaccine is helping to protect. Possibly I’m wrong and time will tell. But I don’t think there will be another lockdown.

dapsnotplimsolls · 04/06/2021 17:48

It depends on the number of hospitalisations and deaths. I think it's very unlikely. Tiers might make a come-back though.

AIMummy · 04/06/2021 17:49

Yeah can't see another lockdown happening or many people adhering to it now. Those anti lockdown protests are getting bigger everytime.

bbbbbbbbb · 04/06/2021 17:50

@CovidCorvid you've misunderstood, good old @NannyAndJohn is desperate for a catastrophe. She / He is on every covid thread going declaring it.

Quartz2208 · 04/06/2021 17:51

Yes there is simply no appetite for another lockdown. What is going to have to happen now is a set of agreeable measures to prevent the NHS from going under (which is always the goal) alongside getting the over 12s vaccinated

Posters seem very keen for another lockdown. Almost wishing it would happen.
