Feeling down, is the 21st unlikely?

I keep reading on here and on the news that it’s unlikely to happen on the 21st. I feel so down about it. We had so many plans that will have to be cancelled. It feels like some normality then back 10 steps :(

Don't lie and twist my post out of context! I said it was better than infecting others

No you didn’t.

@Dorothy1940 I wish I could stay in and save lives but instead I worked all the way through in healthcare with my patients. You might want to consider that you don't know what people have done this past year before you make yourself look stupid in future.

Regarding my medical records it's quite frankly none of your business. It's like me asking you if you've ever been tested for an STI, personal and confidential.

MarshaBradyo · 27/05/2021 20:10

@GoldenOmber

Nobody knows about the 21st. If you want to cheer yourself up though look at Wales’s figures - they’re a few weeks ahead of the rest of us on vaccines and their cases and hospitalisations have absolutely plummeted. Bodes well for the future, if not the 21st on the dot then hopefully not too long after.
Good to hear

Your granddaughter or anyone dying is better than if they infected others? Really? A disease that 95%+ of people will recover from with no issues whatsoever? Death is reasonable to you?

XenoBitch · 27/05/2021 20:11

@GoldenOmber

Welcome to Mumsnet, Dorothy1940! It’s a little odd that you joined just to say that zero covid is the only option for the country and elsewhere that death is ‘still better than long covid’, but it takes all sorts, right?

As you’re new you may not realise, so just giving you a heads up that this kind of posting history might seem to others awfully like you’re shit-stirring. Just in case that’s useful to know. Smile

They said on the thread about the young BBC presenter that died after having the vaccine that her death meant lives were saved. I smell a troll tbh.
feelinggeriatric · 27/05/2021 20:12

There's absolutely no way there would be any more lockdowns. Vaccines ! And people just wouldn't do it. I stopped travelling into London for work mid Feb 20 but even I would not comply at all with another lockdown now - and I think I've been one of the most compliant people going .

TeddingtonTrashbag · 27/05/2021 20:12

I ask nicely, but are you on glue?

I suspect this OP is a wind-up.
In my school (teacher) 21st has already happened. In theory restrictions remain in place but in practice nobody cares. Was always (thankfully) a light touch school and interestingly had only a couple of cases.
Everyone over 27 is vaccinated and pretty much normal operation.

XenoBitch · 27/05/2021 20:13

OP, it is pretty much out of our control. Fingers crossed it all goes ahead as planned. Cases might be up but the NHS is not overwhelmed.

RubyFowler · 27/05/2021 20:13

@Dorothy1940

Of course it's unlikely, people are dying and the new cases of the Indian variant are on the rise. I'm sorry but the only option ahead needs to be a lockdown until we get to zero covid where we can live our lives again. Sadly the anti vaxxers have put a stop to covid going so we must now take the necessary measures
Another lockdown would break this country. It would break me, break my family. Another lockdown would be a disaster in my opinion.

Perhaps the 21st could be delayed. I could see that.
But I just could not understand the justification for another lockdown.
Children and young people have missed enough proper education for one thing.

A less charitable poster than me might say that such extreme views sound more like someone who is not 100% genuine, for whatever reason.

I obvs would never, though, I’m sure ‘Dorothy1940’ popped on here today to tell us all about her granddaughter being willing to sacrifice her own life for the goal of reducing covid out of genuine interest in the conversation and nothing more.

tobee · 27/05/2021 20:16

I don't think anti vaxxers are the reason that Covid won't disappear. And I speak as someone who's had 2 x AZ.

Plus "stay home"??

squishmittens · 27/05/2021 20:16

It was never going to happen. It was always a mythical carrot dangled in front of the British public to prevent a total breakdown in compliance. There is no way that it was ever going to be possible to fully lift restrictions during a pandemic with the vaccination programme still underway. We were all sold a pup.

I reckon they will change tack and we will now go down the line of vaccine passports - they need to get travel, theatres going again ASAP.

No, another lockdown is not the only option.

No, zero Covid is not a viable strategy. The virus is endemic.

Yes, you seem to be relishing relating such doom and negativity.

springblossom2 · 27/05/2021 20:23

If we haven't managed to eliminate headlice, I don't see us beating covid.

Good point.

June 21st will go ahead. Don't panic yet Mr Mannering!

The 3rd lockdown will be happening in November. After everyone's had a nice foreign holiday and brought all the different variants back.

Theatres are open in Wales. I've not been to one but read the government announcement and they opened on May 17th. Hopefully they don't do a u-turn and close them again because the industry has been hit hard enough.
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 27/05/2021 20:25

@Sunshineday1

No way on this planet will I follow another lockdown. Nope. No way. Sorry! I’ve played my part for over a year now, deaths are minimal, ( not disregarding those poor souls who lost their lives AT ALL ) but people die, that’s life unfortunately. Life needs to resume now
Same. I'm vaccinated and so is my boyfriend, my parents, half my family and lots of my friends. I'm not locking down for any fucker.
XenoBitch · 27/05/2021 20:27

[quote Dorothy1940]@XenoBitch because you are too selfish to have a vaccine saying you are terrified of needles reading your post history as you have done with me which is quite stalkerish, please don't force your cowardice on others implying those that are having the vaccine aren't saving lives. You obviously searched my name... I did not do the same with you as your comment was on another thread so there was no need.
You actually said that people who have DIED have some how saved lives.. and you are happy to serve up your own grandaughter as a sacrifice too.
I honestly can not believe anyone with such extreme views exists. Did you namechange from TakeYourVaccine from yesterday?

You don't have a post history because you literally just joined / name changed. You are on another active thread.
Also, grow up.

Mockolate · 27/05/2021 20:31

It's too early to say, I wish everybody would stop speculating, as nobody knows yet!
Getting fed up of all the doom mongers and speculation.
It's always been the case of look nearer the time.
We've been in near constant lockdown since October last year, it's only the past few weeks we've been able to meet up outdoors again and the past week indoors, hurrah!
So I'm happy with it staying like it is (or opening up completely) - as long as it doesn't go backwards again!

I'm sorry but the only option ahead needs to be a lockdown until we get to zero covid where we can live our lives again.
I'm sorry, but fuck that.
Seriously?!
Covid is here. We have to learn to live with it, not keep trying to run away from it!
Plus everyone's getting vaccinated now so we're in a much better place than we were previously.

Ellpellwood · 27/05/2021 20:32

To be honest I can do most things I want to now anyway so I'm not too fussed if it gets delayed. I'm back in the office, can meet friends, back at the cinema twice a week. Even after the 21st we'll still be having constant updates on cases and variants.
