I think it is a policy that is creeping in

Right so that means PCR positive percentage will / is changed, as now it will increase the chance of a positive in all those groups compared to the "normal" reasons, and obviously lead to an increase in absolute numbers.

Probably a more useful way of spending the PCR capacity money than many though.

Quartz2208 · 11/06/2021 14:40

DD initially was asked to LTF every day whilst isolating for the first five days and now it has been identified as Indian Variant and asked to PCR test

tootyfruitypickle · 11/06/2021 14:50

With respect to the virus existing earlier, I was just listening to Newscast podcast on the origins and they mentioned that miners in the cave where these bats live had had a mysterious illness much earlier.

I wonder if it's a mutation thing, so it started less transmissible and slowly got worse and worse and hit a tipping point at which a variant became so transmissible it became a pandemic?

MRex · 11/06/2021 14:54

@Piggywaspushed

I think it is a policy that is creeping in , but not supposed to be used for Delta variant. Not sure how that will work!

It isn't policy in schools though, unless part of trial.

What do you mean by "not supposed to be used for Delta variant"? It's being done as part of variant surge testing, as far as I'm aware.
MRex · 11/06/2021 14:58

Hmmm. We're both wrong, PCR testing is now allowed for anyone who's a contact: "You can arrange to have a singlePCRtest whether or not you have symptoms. This is because you are at a higher risk of being infected."

Piggywaspushed · 11/06/2021 15:18

I meant the testing for 7 days instead of isolating (al la Gove) was meant to be if the original confirmed case was not delta variant. At the time it was anyway.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 11/06/2021 15:41

Thank you @PatriciaHolm Smile

Ah, that makes sense. Yes it was. Apparently those who actually are contacts of a Delta variant case were also being asked if they will test though. Maybe that just adds up to everyone by the end of it.

Thank you very much for this, @boys3 :)
