Well this is fun:

You can click on an area - such as say Bolton - and you can watch B1617.2 arriving in April then spreading out to the surrounding areas.

(It's nothing, nothing, nothing, then it suddenly bursts into colour.

And/or look at your own area and see if it's reached you yet.

Nothing loads for me.

BelleBlueBell · 17/05/2021 21:43

I can't get it to work. How do you input and your area?

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 21:44

You need to click "View Map" at the bottom, choose B1627.2 as your lineage, click "proportion" and play. Darker colours show you where a higher proportion of the local cases are the Indian variant.

If you change to genomes it shows you everywhere it's been found.

Well I'm a stones throw from Bedford so I'm a definite without having to even look!

housemdwaswrong · 17/05/2021 21:47

Wales doesn't exist again. :/ Tedious.

Lalliebelle · 17/05/2021 21:47

This is fascinating! What a great site. How the hell you know the names of all the letter/number combos is beyond me. It's reassuring to see that variants do come and go over the course of the pandemic, and the Indian one is no different.

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 21:47

"Explore Local authorities on the map" gives you a static view.

Ha, no. We don’t even really have any common or garden Covid variants around here 🤷🏼‍♀️

VaccineSticker · 17/05/2021 21:48

Very useful thanks

speakout · 17/05/2021 21:50

Pity it is only for England, not the whole of the UK.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/05/2021 21:51

None of the Indian variant in my area, Erewash. Guess that's why we aren't an area of concern despite having the second highest Covid rates in the country. Wonder what variant we have.

I can't be bothered with the decimal points though usually. Grin

This should've been B1617.2. Apologies. Typing around a cat with one thumb whilst dunking a biscuit. Grin

Thanks, that's the Kent variant apparently!

Well lots of areas do still have 0% of the Indian variant B1617.2 because it's only been here a short while.

Do you want me to double check an area?

OP posts:
APurpleSquirrel · 17/05/2021 22:19

Seems to be 0% for all variants where I am - Somerset West & Taunton.
