Well this is fun:

You can click on an area - such as say Bolton - and you can watch B1617.2 arriving in April then spreading out to the surrounding areas.

(It's nothing, nothing, nothing, then it suddenly bursts into colour.

And/or look at your own area and see if it's reached you yet.

@DumplingsAndStew

Yawn. I really wish Mumsnet would add an "England" board under the nicely termed "other stuff"
Sorry. It's Public Health England data. I don't know if Wales has anything similar.

Glad you like it @CrunchyCarrot

I've looked up literally every place I know anybody. Grin

So we have 0 but we're next to Hart which is 100%. So all the cases in that area are B.1.617.2? But it might just be a couple?

kittycrackles · 18/05/2021 06:59

The whole thing stays yellow when I try to use it. What’s Lewes?

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 18/05/2021 07:13

It would have been interesting to compare it to the case numbers map at coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map
when that was sortable by date as well, then we could have seen actual case numbers too, and interpret whether or not surging numbers are due to Indian variant or otherwise.

UseOfWeapons · 18/05/2021 07:16

Yep, it’s in my area, but as I’m already doing what I can, I’m just going to go with the flow.

anon12345678901 · 18/05/2021 07:16

It is as we got the alert a few weeks ago to do LFT, not worried about it. It's a virus mutating as it's meant to.

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 18/05/2021 07:20

Also when you put it in to the quadratic display you can really see the speed of the rise as well, it's utterly phenomenal, potentially way more serious than Kent variant was. How we progress with the road map will depend entirely on whether or not vaccine roll out continues well and whether vaccines realty do control serious illness and hospital admissions.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/05/2021 07:37

For those who can't get it to change from yellow, have a look at this pic and check you've slid the slider.

RNA virus.

It's an RNA not DNA virus.

I'm stuck in a time machine trying to understand impact of Kent variant.

SARS-CoV-2 was first sequenced in early January 2020. This made the mRNA vaccines (like Pfizer, Moderna) possible to manufacturer within days afterwards. And then the lab-tests could start on their possible efficacy & safety. Funding was more or less instantly available, too. Modern fast accurate Genome sequencing is a big reason why these vaccines were developed faster than any other vaccines in history. And why the vaccines can be tweaked quickly for new variants. But can't be rolled out to big populations as quickly.

The UK is world-leading in genomic sequencing of samples of the SARS-CoV-2 virus found in new cases, which is how new variants are found. Most variants aren't important, though.

I can’t get it to work either! Chelmsford and Westminster both say 0% and I don’t think that’s right

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 18/05/2021 07:56

I can't even find Nottingham 🙄

Fifthtimelucky · 18/05/2021 08:02

0% for me, fortunately, but there is some next door so it's obviously on its way.

Leonardsgirl · 18/05/2021 08:02

Over 50% of cases are the Indian variant in my area of London. But overall case numbers are tiny.

RubiesCube · 18/05/2021 08:10

Well I know for certain it's in my area after receiving a letter from public health England, but we are appearing as no cases so not sure how reliable those figures are now.

Bordois · 18/05/2021 08:19

Chelmsford is 77%, but its very reassuring that a) the actual number of cases is still quite low and b) it doesnt look to be translating into admissions. There are still only 6 people in hospital in the whole of mid and south essex (Basildon, broomfield and southend) and daily admissions are flat
squiglet111 · 18/05/2021 08:22

0% where I am. Now just got to make it until I get my first jab tomorrow and then 2 weeks later to get protected! Secondary school teach with kids in primary and nursery..... Here's hoping!

x2boys · 18/05/2021 08:23

I don't need to click on the map I live in Bolton 😭😭

leiaskye · 18/05/2021 08:25

I don’t need to look at that.

my daughters school has already told us one of their pupils/teachers has it.

leiaskye · 18/05/2021 08:26

I’m in Huddersfield, btw.

knittingaddict · 18/05/2021 08:33

33% here in Bath and North East Somerset

knittingaddict · 18/05/2021 08:42

83.3% where my parents live.

Fifthtimelucky · 18/05/2021 09:00

The figures only go up to 8 May so the variant may have come to your area later than that.
the80sweregreat · 18/05/2021 09:12

Daily mail online headline is grim at the moment :(

Seeline · 18/05/2021 09:12

Mines something like 75% but we've only had 13 cases in total so I'm not panicking yet Grin
