Well this is fun:

You can click on an area - such as say Bolton - and you can watch B1617.2 arriving in April then spreading out to the surrounding areas.

(It's nothing, nothing, nothing, then it suddenly bursts into colour.

And/or look at your own area and see if it's reached you yet.

Sorry 44.00

MadMadMadamMim · 17/05/2021 22:54

0% in our area.

I'm not stressed about it, to be honest. We've all had Covid and have now also had vaccinations. I appreciate it's a different strain, but I'm assuming my antibodies (which have been checked by blood test) will mean I don't get it, even if it does appear over here.

GabsAlot · 17/05/2021 22:56

sorry it says 8 whatever that means

PrincessNutNuts · 17/05/2021 23:00

thanks princess-what exactly does it mean then if it says 8 somewhere

DumplingsAndStew · 17/05/2021 23:03

Yawn. I really wish Mumsnet would add an "England" board under the nicely termed "other stuff"

If it's set to "Genomes processed" it means they processed 8 genomes that were of that variant during this two week period.

No I just get a blank page, just heard it’s 50 percent in our closest city but want to check my area as our numbers are increasing.

paralysedbyinertia · 17/05/2021 23:05

If it's set to "Genomes processed" it means they processed 8 genomes that were of that variant during this two week period.

So does that mean 8 cases or something different? Sorry, am very ignorant on this kind of stuff.

@Flibbitygibbit

@PandemicPalava

Well I'm a stones throw from Bedford so I'm a definite without having to even look!
waves !

I'm in central beds. Went into Bedford at the end of last week, and came home to the news of its numbers and that most are the Indian variant. Wished I'd gone to MK instead!

thegreylady · 17/05/2021 23:08

Please can anyone find Shropshire for me. I am a technofool (sic).

Yes 8 of the cases it processed were found to be of that variant.

But remember most areas only process a selection and I don't know how they're chosen, if it's a random selection or if hospital tests are always done... I don't know.

In a couple of weeks we'll know which direction things are heading in of our numbers have gone up or down.

Yep - 8 cases

paralysedbyinertia · 17/05/2021 23:12

Thank you @PrincessNutNuts, that makes sense.

Shropshire is 0 at the moment for the Indian Variant and has been all along, but some counties bordering it are showing up.

I love the map, it's a great tool.

Months ago I asked one of the leading genomics ppl for these data (who works in my dept) & by way of reply got... An irrelevant observations & ignored my subsequent email. No help at all with actual data.

And then the data pop up on MN thread, public access. Sincere thanks :)

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 17/05/2021 23:20

Crikey - nothing, nothing 34%, 63% - although only 9.5 genomes so still reasonably low.

I'm really glad to have been of help.

We could have done with this all along to inform our decisions I reckon.

But don't thank me, thank The Guardian. That's where I followed the link from originally I think. Grin

Also, I also can't stand an email that you waste time reading that doesn't flipping help.

Why are we so obsessed with variants? They're a tiny deviation.
