So angry at the Government this evening

I’m SO mad. I haven’t been on this board for months and I was feeling really optimistic about life feeling like it was returning to normal.
It is criminal that they have let this variant in. It’s literally ground hog day. Playing politics with public health to do trade deals (because of bloody Brexit) with India.
I know there is hope that the vaccines will do there jobs but we shouldn’t be in this position. This wasn’t inevitable. Arggh so cross

I’m not angry at the government. I’m angry at the people who travelled when they were told they couldn’t, and didn’t isolate when they got back. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions and stop blaming everyone else.

This 100 percent.

@blueangel19 Erm...no. We are angry as this variant may mean more curbs on our freedom and it could have been prevented

I'm cross too. If they'd addressed the India issue earlier.

And the Bolton issue is localised. So deal with that. And the areas of London. Don't make it a uk issue.

@Puttingouthefirewithgasoline

Boris speech asking us to be sensible reminds me of the teachers who moan about the kids who are late back to class, to one's, already THERE!!

If we are interested enough in the press conference its highly likely we are also invested enough to follow the rules!!

He thinks we aren't playing by the rules, absolutely vile majority of us have been for over a year!!!

Are people are going to be furious every time a new variant makes an appearance? Exhausting.

Yep apparently so. Hate the word variant now

This is hard to read as a BAME. I do not know what to say really. I have no useful words.

But when will it all end? Lockdowns forever for each new variant? What's the point of vaccinating if we keep locking down?
@Whatafool123 that’s what I feel like. WE all sacrificed so much and we had pretty much levelled it off.
Johnson is incompetent, never on his brief, doesn’t care about details and isn’t a leader. This is what we get because of that and so we are potentially back to where we started.
If he delays opening now it's his fault (too slow to act regarding India travel). If he puts it back in a few weeks it's because the public didn't behave.

@blueangel19 Also a public health crisis this big shouldn’t have been left to personal choice. Mandatory quarantines on entry are required and it should have happened with immediate effect. Not a week or so after it’s been designated a country of concern

The one factor Britain has going for it is the fact that it's an island (and obv NI is part of another island).

An advantage wasted.

Op our border controls and processes to move on these situations is weak and pathetic.
This is probably why we had border issues in the first place and righting that wrong I suspect needs a specialised team.
It's something we are famously shit at.. Hence why people probably frustrated in the first place.

All our systems seem slow and processes sluggish.

We need to look at places like South Korea.

India - should have been put on the red list earlier without a doubt. Why wasn't it? Boris wanted to go to India to do a trade deal. Numbers at the time although under reported, far exceeded the numbers for Pakistan which was on the red list. It's a bit tricky as PM to put India on the red list and then go yourself. It was only when the delay to putting India on the red list was being called out by all and sundry that he finally did it and postponed his trip. He's an absolute cunt.

I bet it isn't spreading through Australia or New Zealand.

But the government were allowing in Indian cruise ship workers - without requiring them to quarantine and allowing them to travel across the UK by coach.

Presumably these people needed a job and were travelling from an area of high infection to an area of low infection so why wouldn't they come?

The government has to bear some responsibility for allowing in workers from high infection areas who they don't require to quarantine.

Yes but the ones who are probably not following and don't want the vaccines etc are probably the ones not watching the news Angry

People who say the UK (or any other country) should open up and 'live with it' are assuming they and their loved ones are not the people who are going to die from it, lose a job, lose a business, lose a home...

Tui - the company who employed them - should have had to pay for hotel quarantine at the airport.

What do you want? Closed borders for the U.K.?

This has been hashed out so many times.

It would have found a way in eventually. Yes the gov might have been able to delay by banning flights from India, but eventually it would have found a way via another route.

Might come as a blessing that it arrives in the good weather when people are tending to mix outside, rather than putting it off until winter.

I am cross as it is the typical scaremongering....we need to move on and live with this. And not keep panicking over a virus doing what a virus does. Sick of it. Sick of the manipulation. Fear mongering.

Report
Moonme · 14/05/2021 20:11

@Miseryl The UK had got to endemic levels - we were about to have normality back. Some of the world is still in pandemic phase so we should have closed the borders until they were endemic too. Nothing to do with wanting or not wanting lockdowns.
