So angry at the Government this evening

I’m SO mad. I haven’t been on this board for months and I was feeling really optimistic about life feeling like it was returning to normal.
It is criminal that they have let this variant in. It’s literally ground hog day. Playing politics with public health to do trade deals (because of bloody Brexit) with India.
I know there is hope that the vaccines will do there jobs but we shouldn’t be in this position. This wasn’t inevitable. Arggh so cross

If what happens at borders is anything like that schools ie trickle down the then it's no wonder it's seeded
Who checks entrants, who follows up whether they are isolating!

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 14/05/2021 19:50

It's also not just the government, why are people so reliant on being told what to do. We need to take some personal responsibility as well.

IloveJKRowling · 14/05/2021 19:50

@Akire

I thought for months now if you fly in you went to hotel for two weeks? I don’t understand how it can get in if people have been in isolation. Or was it on no need isolate countries when it’s billions of people!
Apparently not. Apparently you can fly in from a country with very high covid rates, and new variants, with a negative test (despite the fact we all know you can be incubating it for weeks), get on a coach having contact with goodness knows how many people, and only find out you have covid when you're about to get on a boat in Torbay.

Agree with the OP, they should have tightened requirements for quarantine on arrival much, much sooner.

@Puttingouthefirewithgasoline The biggest irony is that this Government gone in on a ‘take back control of our borders’ mandate

There will always be variants and risks. We need to open up and ust live with it.

This.

And people who have travelled need to take some responsibility and start quarantining properly.

HermioneWeasley · 14/05/2021 19:54

It’s criminal that they let this variant in - utter incompetence

They are the sections at low risk. (So low they are being advised against a vaccine that has a minuscule chance of causing a blood clot).

HairyFloppins · 14/05/2021 19:55

Speaking to someone in the USA earlier apparently it's running wild there as well and hardly ever mentioned.

The CDC have told them that vaccines work with it and just to crack on.

User135644 · 14/05/2021 19:55

It doesn't half change quick on here. It was Boris mania last week after the elections and haven't the Tories done so well.

I agree it’s not possible to keep variants out unless you do full Aus style

Even then they get through at times

3asAbird · 14/05/2021 19:56

Dident whitty and sage say actually a partially vaccinated population is worse as greater risk of mutation.
As studies shown this with immuno compromised.
We could end up with some new British varient before long.

sprinkleyumnut · 14/05/2021 19:56

Enough is enough now. Once everyone who wants to be vaccinated has been fully vaccinated we need to get rid of masks, social distancing and lockdown it all needs to go. This isn't living. I knew they would do this and it was too good to be true. People have lives they have businesses and this pandemic has cost so many businesses. Absolutely awful. We can't keep going on like this.

LadyWithLapdog · 14/05/2021 19:57

“He’s only doing his best” as an excuse. If this IS his best, boot the fucker out.

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 14/05/2021 19:57

Boris speech asking us to be sensible reminds me of the teachers who moan about the kids who are late back to class, to one's, already THERE!!

If we are interested enough in the press conference its highly likely we are also invested enough to follow the rules!!

Jennyfromtheculdesac · 14/05/2021 19:57

I think there are two reasons the government are suddenly going on about it.

  1. To encourage more people to have the vaccine. Some of the areas with spikes have particularly low take up rates.
  2. To justify delaying an enquiry into the handling of the pandemic because “we’re still in the pandemic and everyone is awfully busy”.
blueangel19 · 14/05/2021 19:57

Are people are going to be furious every time a new variant makes an appearance? Exhausting.

Fred56 · 14/05/2021 19:58

I suspect they were also thinking of the May elections, if we stop the road map or put a hold on things people won't vote for them.

Covidatemyhomework · 14/05/2021 19:58

I’m not angry at the government. I’m angry at the people who travelled when they were told they couldn’t, and didn’t isolate when they got back. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions and stop blaming everyone else.

blueangel19 · 14/05/2021 19:59

Probably, but also to vaccine kids in Autumn.

It seems so ;
Covidatemyhomework · 14/05/2021 20:01

And I got slaughtered in a previous post by saying I thought people shouldn’t travel internationally at the moment. It’s against human rights to go abroad apparently and everyone is tired and needs a holiday. Well, this shit is the result.
