It's too early to say still.

carolinesbaby · 27/05/2021 20:49

I am a civil servant. My work are ploughing ahead with plans for June 21st business as usual at a ridiculous pace. It will involve around 600 members of the public coming through our doors every single day. We actually had the Secretary of State for our department on our team call on Wednesday talking through the reasons for this. No indication was given that there was any cause for caution or delay in the reopening. Make of this what you will.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 27/05/2021 21:33

I agree with tobee it is still to early to say

We knew cases would go up when we started opening up again. The India variant is a worry but has started to level of in some areas already. Plus the experts are now mumbling up to 25% more transmitable not the original up to 50%.

Patients in hospital numbers are still pretty stable. They seem to be discharging patients fairly quickly. A possible sign people are less sick. Due to being vaccinated or being younger and healthier.

We just have to wait and watch a bit longer.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 27/05/2021 21:52

This is the current number of patients with covid in hospital data. To put it into context. On the 11th we dropped to under a thousand people in hospital.

Also

7 day case avg: 2636.57
7 day hosp death avg: 7.14
This just popped up from Sky News:-

news.sky.com/story/covid-19-despite-the-bad-news-there-are-some-very-promising-signs-in-the-latest-data-12318649
Of the 43 people who needed hospital admission, 67% were unvaccinated, just 2% had received both doses.

If 43 people needed hospital. How many people are the 2% fully vaccinated? Grin Why do they have to talk in percentage with such small numbers🤦‍♀️

Bordois · 27/05/2021 22:52

2% of 43 people is less than an actual person 🤯

tobee · 27/05/2021 22:53

I can't do maths

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 28/05/2021 00:30

Are there gnomes in Bolton?

It the new variant highly contagious to gnomes?

Is that why they do all that gnome testing to find variants?

Grin
TruelyStruttingHotpants · 28/05/2021 00:33

Also apparently the new Yorkshire variant should be no match for the tea cells

Wink
thatgingergirl · 28/05/2021 06:50

Truely - gnomes and tea cells 😄

Had a lovely day in London yesterday - sunshine, coffee, cake and a chunk of museum culture. Marvellous.

Thats it. You're off the thread.

Love this thread !

Your day sounds gorgeous @thatgingergirl hope you didn’t get caught up with the chaos at Euston ?

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 28/05/2021 12:34

🥳🥳🥳Ok so this is the news we love to here:

So far only ONE overnight hospitalisation for a patient who had 2 doses out of total of 5599 sequenced cases of B.1.167.2

Now that is a big flashing light sign that the vaccines work wonders after two doses. Especially because we don't know if this was a very elderly person or someone with a serious underlying condition etc.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 28/05/2021 12:35

Glad you had a good day out ginger ❤

This is great. Just need to gets lots of people jabbed quickly!!
Bordois · 28/05/2021 12:58

Not to be too much of a pollyanna, but is it likely hospitals would now be admitting people who are less ill just for observation overnight - so people who are being admitted may not necessarily be as ill as those being admitted a few months back?

OrangeBananaFish · 28/05/2021 13:00

J and J has been approved.

Where's norovax at? Are we close to approval there too?

OrangeBananaFish · 28/05/2021 13:02

Woohoo

Good News - Thread 13. 40/30s and onwards to the roaring 20s.
TruelyStruttingHotpants · 28/05/2021 13:03

That is my thinking Bordois. Although despite the reported rise in A&E admissions. The number of people staying in hospital overnight is level if not falling still.

Johnson and Johnson has now been approved in the UK🥳🥳🥳🥳

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 28/05/2021 13:05

@OrangeBananaFish

Last I heard data is brilliant but part of the approval is proving they can manufacture it to the right levels etc. I think supply of grow bags and other stuff has slowed things down.
BessMarvin · 28/05/2021 13:07

Sorry this is probably a stupid question! Do we need more vaccines to be approved? Do we not have enough for everyone already?

Also the j&j / janssen one has the same clot issues if I'm remembering correctly? So it's not like we can replace az with it to avoid those problems?

Hope that doesn't sound too negative, just trying to understand things

Autumn101 · 28/05/2021 13:13

Brilliant news for J&J 👍

PomRuns · 28/05/2021 13:51

@Autumn101 that’s so frustrating about your DH. At the risk of sounding like a toddler - so unfair some people managing to get round the rules.

Lots of lovely Pollyanna news today !
