I'm double jabbed as of 8.30 this morning! So grateful. The nurse suggested keeping my arm moving, so I was even happy to do a pile of ironing when I got home!!

🥳🥳🥳 Marvellous news

Ironing no thanks. If that is a side effect of getting the jab I am joining the vaccine hesitancy side.

TruelyWonder · 09/05/2021 17:01

Official figures show that more than 17.6 million people have now received both jabs, with England and Northern Ireland both estimated to have given two doses to 33.6 per cent of their adult population - slightly ahead of Wales (33.4 per cent) and Scotland (33.1 per cent).

Responding to the figures for England, Dr Nikki Kanani, GP and medical director for primary care at NHS England, said: 'Yet another incredible NHS milestone has been reached as one in three adults in England have now had both doses of the Covid vaccine - meaning that they have maximum protection from the virus.

'Reaching this milestone is no accident - it is down to months of hard work and everyone in the NHS who has played a role in this is helping to protect millions of people from serious illness and saving lives.'

Meanwhile, 35,371,669 people in the UK have now received a first dose of vaccine - the equivalent of 67.2 per cent of the adult population. Wales has given a first dose to 76.2 per cent of its adult population, ahead of Northern Ireland (66.9 per cent), England (66.8 per cent) and Scotland (65.4 per cent).

It comes as Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove today declared that hugging friends and family will be allowed from May 17, when the latest stage of the roadmap is reached in a week's time.

Prediction of third wave over summer revised.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/05/01/covid-modellers-optimistic-third-wave-may-not-happen/

Will that deter the doomploppers or will they move on to something else?

PomRuns · 11/05/2021 10:52

I think some don’t want to move on.

Come on holidays !!!

HolmeH · 11/05/2021 11:07

I wish they’d start sending more vaccines to areas with higher cases. I’m in an area of Yorkshire with the highest amount of cases in the country (per 100,000) & yet we seem to be lagging behind with vaccines.. I’m really nervous they’ll introduce regional differences again which left us stuck in permanent lockdown for nearly all of 2020! Get the vaccines out here more speedily & it should help!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/05/2021 11:27

I agree HolmeH. I think in particular if an area has low uptake but high cases they should be willing to move down the age groups faster so at least more people will be getting jabbed even if it’s not the ideal people. And as there is evidence that hesitancy decreases the more people are vaccinated, it might be that the best way to get older people jabbed is to offer it to the younger ones.

PomRuns · 11/05/2021 11:57

Agree. So frustrating for people waiting.

tobee · 11/05/2021 16:23

Sorry @Bordois I think that article is now redundant with the concerns around Indian variant. 😔

Hope everyone in here is well!

springhasalmostsprung · 14/05/2021 09:35

Some potentially good news showing vaccine might already be showing some protection against new variant in Bolton and Blackburn? twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1393124817902133249

Thank you! This is what we need!

Sorry to see others are feeling the same as me.

TeenMinusTests · 14/05/2021 10:20

Personal good news:

  • My DM (80s, CEV) went into her local bookshop for the first time in over a year
  • My y11 DD (who has missed a whole year of education due to MH issues) has come good with meds just in time to sit some GCSE assessments (5 sat so far, 4 more to go)
