You have a point. I would personally take it upon myself to do another test in those circumstances but must people wouldn't I guess.

The system isn't perfect is it. I imagine the experts feel the test is close enough to accurate to catch most cases.

The August thing won't happen if people don't get their jabs though. The trouble with us having these lovely low numbers of cases and deaths is people think its over. Well at least they think their risks are very low. Which is technically true but not if the virus takes off again.

On the board at the moment you are getting people in their 40s being advised to wait for their jab. Don't get the second jab is my other favourite. Sorry if you are in your 40s your risk level is way higher than the younger age ranges. We have had plenty of healthy 40 something year olds in ICU.

Plus the first jab may keep you out of hospital but won't stop you infectioning others. That is a proven fact. So you risk spreading the virus to a vulnerable person. Also making case numbers go up again.

If that's true about 40 somethings in icu, and also due to them having az. I do hope they will be allocated boosters.
TruelyWonder · 08/05/2021 21:30

I love it when we get new helpful visitors

Yes we all know the data about ICU during the pandemic. Middle aged people with covid take up around a quarter of the beds on average. That is why they say the risk levels go up considerably from 40 because they do just that. Cold hard facts!

Last time I looked only 141 women and 100 men had got clots from covid. Out of those few had actually been seriously ill because they have worked out a way to treat the clots caused by AZ. The number of people that have dead or would possibly die from AZ clots if we continued to use it again would be tiny compared to the number of under 50s that have dead or will die from covid in the UK.

Afraid your lovely helpful posts are not fooling anyone. Had space invaders before and will in future. I would stick to talking and being oh so very helpful with other posters if I were you. Not many on this thread that don't know the facts.

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 21:34

@TruelyWonder I'm interested to hear more about people who have survived these clots. I can't find anything on that. If people don't die from them, do they mostly go back to how they were before or do they have lasting effects? I can't find information on this

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 22:30

@TruelyWonder - not sure how to interpret your response, but no I genuinely haven't found any info on the prognosis of clot survivors.

TruelyWonder · 08/05/2021 22:31

Can the clots be treated?

Generally, the quicker that cases are identified, the better for the patient.

Treatment can involve a number of medicines and includes immunoglobulins - immune proteins - given through a drip.

Some patients will be sent home with new generation blood thinners and have regular monitoring.

According to blood specialist, Prof Adrian Newland, current evidence suggests 75% of people survive.

An expert panel of blood specialists in the UK have put together guidance for doctors, which is being constantly updated.

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 22:33

Thanks. So 75% of people survive, but it's not clear what state they are left in and it's not clear whether most make a full recovery or not.

I've had to hide a lot of posts because I was really starting to worry about having had the AZ vaccine. I've had a couple of headaches since having it which isn't unusual for me, but poor DH has had to put up with me asking him every 5 minutes if he thinks I'm ok! I was beginning to regret having it so I figured I need to be sensible and choosy about the posts I read.
Dementedswan · 08/05/2021 22:37

🤣 I've decided to take my 2nd az jab in a few days... I had my first as group 6 so benefits definately outweigh the risks. I hope! I do wonder why Pfizer causing heart inflammation has not come under the same scrutiny as az with these rare clots.

PomRuns · 08/05/2021 22:37

There are some very odd things being said - best ignored. It's a shame, causes so much anxiety.

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 22:38

I didn't realise I was on a "good news" thread. Ooops. I shall take my fact finding elsewhere Smile

TruelyWonder · 08/05/2021 22:40

From the fact that they are just sending some home with medication. Suggests that though some cases can be very serious. Some are much less.

No hard facts on hospitalisation and out comes yet. However this is a relatively tiny number of people in the first cases. Nasty but all the vaccines have issues. As do most vaccines and medications.

To put it into prospective. Out of 1 million people that get covid 39 people will get this type of clot.

So obviously if cases here are high. The vaccine is your best bet. If cases are low things change especially in the younger groups.

However AZ has not suddenly turned into the enemy. Just risks of covid are less. This is why Germany will know join many other countries like the very scientific south Korea to use AZ in all age groups.

It's hard to ignore sometimes. You were very good with the clot advice !

PomRuns · 08/05/2021 22:47

ooh they are gorgeous.

I was going to post after watching the news about Sturgeon, you'd think health and education would be her priority - enraged.
Not good news I know, and since I saw the posts I've been trying to think of something positive to say. Now all I've posted is a mild rant.

I will also hang my head in shame.

I only call you Pom anyway ❤
TruelyWonder · 08/05/2021 22:59

Afraid I can join you in that rant. I get the independence thing I really do. Even if not sure how on earth that would work for them or us. However this is so not the time for the UK to be dealing with this stuff. Pandemic and Brexit are quite enough for the next couple of years thanks.

We need to be or someone to spam the thread with marvellous news stories now don't we.
