AZ side effects

AZ yesterday. Have to say I think I’ve just had the illest night of my life. The bed is literally sodden. Chills are an understatement. OH was the same. Headache now but getting better. Don’t want to put anyone off. Delighted to have got it. Just wondered how many were the same? And what the reaction is likely to be after the 2nd jab?

I have just had a blood test for headaches four weeks still later.

Dr said to me that the odds on dying from covid for younger people (I am fit and 45) are now not as good as they were. He said even with the side effects, it is still much better to have the vaccine - my odds are now 1 in 27,000 dying from covid according to him Confused which didn't sound great. Young people are becoming more seriously ill or are unexpectedly dying according to him. So yes even with the issues I am having, I am still having the second dose. A few headaches is really nothing compared to what could happen.

I have a relative with serious secondary problems after covid, and he has organ failure, brain issues due to a lack of oxygen at the time, and is really unable to look after himself at all still four months on and only 41.

I’m on day 9 post vaccine now and the nausea has gone but headache and stiff neck still there. Had blood tests done at the weekend and no clotting or platelet issue apparently. Nurse said that they’re seeing a significant number of people who have suffered really badly with side effects lasting 2 weeks or more, but that it’s still far far better than covid. On balance I’m glad I’ve had it but it’s been shit.

coogee · 20/04/2021 19:42

I'm impressed with everyone suffering through the side effects but still saying they are glad they had the jab! Not sure I would feel the sane way tbh.

Perhaps you don't know nobody who was really ill with covid.

The side effects of the jab are nothing.

coogee · 20/04/2021 19:43

Anybody, not nobody. Blush

Yes that's true actually. I don't personally know of anyone, but there have been people in my dh's extended family who have had it. Although I still isn't know how badly they suffered.

Either way, dh had his first dose this morning and so far, thank God, he seems OK. Mine is on Friday morning, so we will see how I am after that 🤞

BilboBercow · 20/04/2021 22:03

I felt dreadful the following day, arm was agony, aches all over, very weak with a banging headache and still had fatigue and was a bit achy the day after. Feeling fine now but dreading the 2and dose.

provencegal · 21/04/2021 06:26

I am waiting for my blood test results today.

My auntie also had a stiff neck and headache for four weeks which was only relieved by the second dose! Very strange.

HappyThursdays · 21/04/2021 10:28

when did your side effects start after you had the vaccine?

both me and dp had Covid in April 2020. We've both had the AZ vaccine today. I'm just a bit concerned as people have said the side effects are even worse if you've had Covid before which is making me slightly nervous!

provencegal · 21/04/2021 10:30

happy Usually the day/night after. So for you during the night/ tomorrow. You might be one of the lucky ones!

I got the all clear for bloods, so headaches are just a side effect of the vaccine.

HappyThursdays · 21/04/2021 10:34

thanks @provencegal, that's good news I suppose for you (I mean at least it's nothing else!)

I will take some paracetamol before bed I think

my first symptom of Covid was the headache, I guess it means the vaccine is working for you though I hope they stop soon as it must be unpleasant!

CoalHouseDoor · 21/04/2021 12:23

Six weeks after AZ, I’ve still got headaches. Felt lousy, had blurred vision. Had two trips to A&E at insistence of my GP plus emergency eye tests and multiple calls to the GP surgery.

D-dine negative. Doctor “mystified.” Not very reassuring really.

I’ve never felt so grim before. Aches, headaches, fatigue, low mood, eye infections, UTIs, I’m a walking medical dictionary.

Pre the jab, I ran nearly every day. Right now I can hardly crawl through until bedtime. I run my own business so taking time off not an option.

I will definitely not be having the second.

CrazyHorse · 21/04/2021 12:46

@CoalHouseDoor That's awful! Poor you Sad

minimoojo · 21/04/2021 13:53

Hi, I had covid starting in March last year and still have mild long covid symptoms. Had AZ jab yesterday 10am. Felt woozy/drowsy in the afternoon, then mild headache by about 3pm. Very tired that evening and headache got worse. Went to bed 9pm with bad head and feeling nauseous. Had broken nights sleep (woke up every hour or so) feeling quite hot and with horrendous headache and nausea. Was sick a few times in the night. This morning I've had what is like a very bad hangover (don't drink anymore though!) - still headache and upset stomach/vomiting. Have been lying on sofa all day hardly moving. Had bit of sleep 1pm and a bit of toast and am starting to feel a bit better and more human again. Fingers crossed it keeps improving! Have been taking paracetamol every 6 hrs. Had expected to feel rough but hadn't expected upset tummy. Take care all!

Coal word for word, even down to the eye infection is what is happening to me as well. I have had a persistent headache since I had the jab, feeling very low level tired and under the weather. I too have had GP visit and blood test, so no clots, thankfully.

GP said to me today that the second dose may take away the symptoms - and this happened for my aunt. So I am thinking second dose might solve the problems, certainly unlikely to make it worse - but not sure what to do? Have you definitely decided.

I am also quite sensitive to light suddenly as well, my eyes kind of hurt.

Froggie13 · 21/04/2021 20:24

I had my jab on Saturday, chills in the night and headache. Got worse Sunday with general tiredness and severe diarrhoea for the last 2 days. I'll still have the second dose but underestimated the side effects Confused

Glitterblue · 21/04/2021 21:24

DH and I have ours in the morning- I'm not looking forward to any side effects we may get!

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 21/04/2021 21:52

Has anyone had persistent dizziness? DH had his AZ jab last Saturday and he has been feeling dizzy since Sunday. Somehow his symptoms kicked in later than for most others, he didn't feel much in the first 24 hours after the jab.

FrozenVag · 21/04/2021 22:22

Did anybody else have theirs today?

I’ve gone to bed feeling absolutely fine and have been pretty energetic all day

But this thread is freaking me out a bit!

I am similar to the above. I have had continuous issues since the first dose of AZ. I've had trips to A&E and my GP. I am tired, dizzy, headaches, pains, rashes on various parts of my body.

I regret having the vaccine every day. I will not be taking the second one. They are now talking about mixing the vaccines as they have stopped AZ where I live. Following what I have experienced, on top of the worry the AZ vaccine has caused, I will not take another covid vaccine of any brand again until 2023.

7 weeks post AZ jab and same. Definitely not having the second AZ jab
BigButtons · 22/04/2021 06:52

I had many of the side effects described and felt so unwell that I couldn't walk unaided to the toilet. I also had the shooting pains in my limbs which were so severe that my body convulsed as a reaction to them- it was like having electric shocks and I couldn't control my reaction to them. It was very scary.
3 days after having it I developed an all over body rash and itch.
It took a good 2 weeks to feel back to normal.
I am very scared about having the second dose in June and am really not sure that i will.

HappyThursdays · 22/04/2021 08:13

We had ours at 930am yesterday. By 9pm both of us were feeling heavy - that feeling you get before flu/a cold. I went to bed and took some paracetamol and woke up with a temperature, headache and flu like symptoms. I've just taken some nurofen and gone back to bed. Dp felt odd last night but is absolutely fine this morning other than having a bit of a headache.

Interestingly he had Covid far worse than me in 2020 so maybe his body already had all the immunity it needed!

I am really hoping with a few more hours sleep I will feel better as I haven't had a high temperature for a v long time!

Most people are fine, side effects aren't a foregone conclusion.
the80sweregreat · 22/04/2021 08:39

I had the first jab early March. In the
Last few weeks I've had shooting pains and a weak leg when I stand up ( doesn't last long ) lightening headaches. I'm not sure if it's just coincidence or if it's the jab as others have said the same. I did have a heavy arm for a day or two after the jab. It could be unrelated.
Next one is in June : I'm dreading it now.

How are you feeling? I had minor side effects when I had mine on Sunday but nothing too bad. I kept telling myself you only hear about the bad things - people will post about side effects but few will post to say they didn't have any.

My arm still aches a bit and I've still got a mild headache but I'm not convinced the latter isn't due to eye strain or the fact that I've talked myself into it!
