Justin Trudeau, Canadian PM, lying about the UK's "third wave"

God, politicians are all as bad as each other, aren't they? Trudeau's coming under a lot of pressure because of Canada's slow vaccine rollout. So what does he do? Stand up in Parliament and lie about the apparently "very serious third wave" that we are apparently suffering Hmm

And I thought he was supposed to be one of the good ones!

@PrincessNutNuts

I was on hold for ages so I caught up with some of the threads I'm on that still had unread posts.

I don't post much, so it wasn't very far down.

And he was right.

No he wasn't. You can panic as much as you like about every new variant but the UK is not going to see mass graves. More a ripple than a "very serious third wave". If you zoom into the MSOA map, you will find that cases are concentrated in a handful of areas and that most of the country has no cases. Compare with January when most of the country was purple.

Am fairly sure our scientists have said we will have a third wave either in.summer or autumn so I'm not sure we can complain about anyone else saying it unless we also complain about the scientists

And I’m a monkeys uncle!

FFS give it a rest!

Britain is indeed facing a third wave. We're not thinking about or anticipating it, and we're not suffering or overwhelmed by it the way India was yet, but it is here (arrived 3 weeks ago, where have you been, OP) and GPs, hospitals and the Covid test labs are already dealing with it.

Anyone booking a Covid PCR test now who has previously had one will notice that the questions are now different and more probing- although you will get the test of course.

Canada's vaccine rollout has indeed been slow - as has a lot of nations with extremely low and enviable Covid death and hospitalisation rates. That's also logical as the gap between benefits versus the inconveniences/risks of vaccination is a lot narrower in nations where case rates have been significantly lower so they have to be more rigorous in approving it and waiting for more evidence and information. On the other hand, Canada has allowed residents to choose their vaccine- something many MN members in the UK will greatly envy.

dailygrowl this thread is from weeks ago.

Resurrecting this thread is rather scraping the barrel for an “I told you so” - surely there must be better ones for that
