Moderna side effects

Hi, I am having the Moderna jab in the morning... and just wondering if any of you have had it already and what side effects you might have had after it? Not sure what to expect, is it a bit fluey like the AZ one?

Just adding my experiences, as not many I know have had the Moderna! Had suspected Covid April 2020, and Moderna jab 1 on Friday lunchtime.

Slightly achey injection site and surrounding area, but not more than I expect for an IM injection. Tender area expanded lots on Saturday (up to neck and down under armpit) but by Sunday evening had eased almost entirely - now just jab site.

Fever and chills, the awful fluey kinds, woke me up from 2am (14 hours after jab) on Saturday morning. Slept fitfully until 9, then had headache and really severe sweats throughout the day. Forced myself to go to lunch with some old colleagues and a few wines helped the head, but not the sweats.

After an early night Saturday, slept for 10 ish hours and had a sore arm today, but now eased almost entirely.

For those with a very sore arm are we talking unable to use you arm sore? I'm struggling to change clothes & changing gears in car is a no go so can't drive. I'm hopeful from this thread that it might just be unlucky side effect afterall.

Lookdeepintotheparka · 24/05/2021 09:29

My arm was incredibly sore for 24 hours @Northernshepherd as in struggling to get clothes on or lifting anything. For various reasons I had to have it in my right arm (I'm right handed) which didn't help! Pain was mostly gone after 2 days and back to normal now.

It seems a much more common side effect with Moderna. Hope yours is better soon Smile

Northernshepherd · 24/05/2021 09:47

Thanks @Lookdeepintotheparka - it's been 48 hours but I'll give it a few more days. I was getting a little worried as I can't move my arm above shoulder height or out to the side

twoticksvix · 24/05/2021 12:49

I had Moderna dose 1 on Friday morning. By bedtime it was agony! This lasted until when I woke this morning where I can now dress myself again without awful pain. I couldn't pull my handbrake on or pick the kids up!

Yes, my arm was also very sore to the point I couldn't lift it up or use it as normal - I struggled changing clothes, washing hair etc, and had to walk to the school run - it felt like I had pulled a muscle badly. But it started easing after 3 days, and got better quite quickly after that. I'm now 6 days after the jab and feel completely normal with no arm pain. (I had no other side effects)

Yes my arm was achy and sore almost straight away. But it was over 24 hours later that the pain really kicked in. Couldn’t lift arm at all from waist height, Couldn’t tie hair back, (Dh had to do it) or wash hair couldn’t get dressed I couldn’t even think about driving! my arm was completely useless!

That intense pain lasted about 16 hours then Slowly started to ease gradually got better and regained full use of my arm in about 4-5 days.

But my arm and joints are still aching on and off I can pinpoint the exact spot the vaccination went in as it still feels slightly tender. (Been 25 days)

MummaPI · 25/05/2021 11:12

Thats interesting, I'm 5 weeks post vaccine and my arms are aching badly at the moment. Top of my hands are tingly with a hot sensation too.

ScarlettSunset · 25/05/2021 11:27

Had Moderna a week ago. Was fine with just a sore arm that stopped after a day or too. Now feel awful though with muscle aches and the jab site is really itchy. GP has said it's normal.l and it does seem to be lessening. Just wasn't expecting to get anything a week later.

Northernshepherd · 25/05/2021 15:03

It seems to be easing up a little. I still can't lift my arm above shoulder height but am less concerned after reading these & will give it more time.

@scarlettSunset they said to me at the vaccine centre that getting a rash and or lump a week later is a peculiarity of moderna

nordica · 27/05/2021 11:37

Soooo I've developed the famous "covid arm" Moderna rash on the vaccinated arm. I'm strangely happy about it, at least I know it's doing its thing in my body. Grin It's been exactly two weeks since my first vaccine today and my arm has felt a bit itchy for a few days now, I noticed the distinct red area (a couple of inches in diameter) yesterday afternoon.

This is what has happened to me too! Extremely itchy. The rash has grown alarmingly large but is starting to fade a little. Started a few days ago.
callingon · 27/05/2021 22:37

My arm hurt A LOT from 5-24 hours after I had moderna. I couldn’t use it properly and it was difficult to sleep as it was so sore - with paracetamol too! I also woke up in the early morning after having the jab in the afternoon in a cold sweat feeling nauseous but it had completely passed by the time I needed to get up and go to work - weird.

user34254356 · 29/05/2021 10:32

Anyone whose sore arm returned 2 weeks later? Mine feels achey and sore again near the injection site

cliffdiver · 29/05/2021 12:11

First Moderna yesterday evening.

Feel awful today. Fever (38.5), aches, fuzzy head, very sore arm.

Bubbean · 29/05/2021 13:53

I’m 2 weeks post vaccine and having headaches every day, funny tummy and aches. The doctor is sending me for blood tests but warned that it could be 2 or 3 weeks of weird side affects after the vaccine.

i also had tummy issues and daily headaches for first two weeks, they just stopped 2 days ago, and now i have the sore arm.

Maybe i should ask my GP for blood tests, bet I will be fobbed off

SparkyTheCat · 04/06/2021 21:21

I had the sore arm, upset stomach and tiredness; days 8-10 I also got the headaches that no painkillers would touch, with further vomiting. Suddenly the headache switched off, and appetite came back with a bang.

AbstractDot · 04/06/2021 22:37

I had very sore arm that hurt to lift but wasn't impossible, that was gone by Day 4 mostly. The biggest side effect I had was feeling absolutely exhausted the day after jab 1, I could have shut my eyes and slept but had gone to work so spent the day feeling out of it. But thankfully no ill side effects. I'm 14 days post vaccine 1.

TacoCat123 · 04/06/2021 22:49

I had my 2nd Moderna jab this morning. Oh my god my arm is so painful! It hurt after the 1st jab too; lasted almost a week I think. I might be imagining it, but it feels even more painful this time around. I did walk the dog straight afterwards though - all that pulling on a lead probably didn't help matters! Feeling very tired also but that seems to be it so far in terms of side effects. 1st time - I developed fatigue / chills / raised temperature around 4-5 hours after receiving the jab; these symptoms disappeared 24 hours later and to be fair, it wasn't too bad - some paracetamol and taking it easy was all I needed. No other symptoms after that beyond the random Moderna arm that emerged day 8 and took a few days to disappear.

Blossomandbee · 05/06/2021 12:18

I had it ten days ago. Had the expected sore arm, headaches and chills, but for about the last week I've had the most horrendous anxiety and tearfulness. I'm not hungry, can't sleep, can't stop crying over everything, feel I don't want to leave the house. I do get anxiety normally but this is something else. Anyone else felt the same? I don't know if it's connected to the vaccine but I've felt very strange since.

Mixington · 08/06/2021 06:57

2nd Moderna jab last night, 4 weeks after the first.

First time, no symptoms at all. Arm hurt for 36 hours but not straight away, then was fine.

This time, arm hurt immediately, and now just over 12 hours later I feel achey shivery queasy and have a headache. Arm is really sore all up into my shoulder and neck.

Am going to walk the kids to school in a bit but hoping I can sneak in some naps in between work calls for the rest of the day.

Cafeaulait27 · 08/06/2021 09:57

Really sore arm for a few days which I couldn’t move! Bit tired in the evenings too but that’s it.

I’m a bit nervous of everyone saying it’s worse after the second jab - I’m pregnant and don’t want to get a fever. Am I likely to get a fever after the second jab?

HarrietOh · 08/06/2021 10:12

So far out of my group of friends in 30's the only ones of us to feel ill have been the couple of us who have had covid.
One friend felt absolutely fine but just over a week later got the moderna rash on her arm.

Poppytime · 08/06/2021 10:45

@Blossomandbee that's funny you said that about feeling anxious and tearful, I felt exactly like that for a few days after my vaccine. I wonder if it was related? I brushed it off, but i only ever feel remotely like that when I'm pre menstrual, which I wasn't at the time. Better now though!
