Follow-on to the happy thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4210673-Can-the-40-49-age-group-now-book-their-vaccine.

(I'm jabbed, but just here to read happy news of jabs and try to book DH when it's his time.)

I hope they do now move fast through the rest of the 40s and they are just spreading pressure on the site, it has taken a long time to announce the 44s from when they could book!

@CovidHalloween

The news said that 2/3s of 45-49 have been vaccinated that’s 66%. It will probably increase a bit as some people haven’t got round to book theirs yet, but it does look like the uptake of the vaccine has dropped significantly from the previous age groups which is a real shame. I’m expecting this trend to continue, it explains why the gov is trying encourage the younger to go and get vax.
Could it also be the supply issues and some people preferring to wait to be vaccinated via their GPs rather than travel to a hub several miles away?
TokyoSushi · 26/04/2021 07:18

Argh! I'm not sure if it's better to know about the slow drip of eligibility, or just wait in blissful ignorance until its announced on 'the news!' I'm 41 and it feel like forever away!

Me too and it seems like everyone I know has had it, this slow drip to get down to early forties is torture!

It’s so random.

I’m 43 booked on Thursday evening and had my vaccination on Saturday.

My manager is 47 and booked two weeks ago and got his vaccination on Friday night.

Friends who are 45+ still waiting for their vaccination booked a few weeks ago.

It must be very localised depending on how they are getting through the ages.

When I took DH last month to the same hub everyone walking in looked to be the same age. When I went on Saturday it was a real mix of ages.

WarriorN · 26/04/2021 07:34

I think, based on info from a Gp friend, many areas were ready to go to 44-40, or certainly 44, so they've allowed that as vaccines are sitting there. I think there may be some disparity and vaccine hesitancy etc so some areas are still trying to push the older lot.

Eg, some friends in their 30s and 40s had it and it was mild; they're worried about the vaccine side effects. Would rather not have the jab.

WarriorN · 26/04/2021 07:34

Jab today; of course I have a mild cold and started my period 😑

Level75 · 26/04/2021 07:39

I'm early August 77 - so close to current cut off!! Fingers crossed its only a few more days.

Deedippy · 26/04/2021 07:42

Just looked to see if I could book dp in. 44 in Jan and still not able too. Hopefully it updates to include the 43's soon. North -east London

Same also 43 and had mine at weekend.

Think my surgery are a tiny bit ahead

WarriorN · 26/04/2021 07:54

Surgeries may have more sway; my friend who is 41 and no health conditions, working from home, had hers done two weeks ago.

EarlGreywithLemon · 26/04/2021 07:54

Our GP surgery has been inviting over 40s for a few days now. The announcement on their website asks anyone over 45 who still hasn’t had it to book through the national booking service. I had my first dose a while ago and due my second (group 6) but am watching for my husband who is in his late thirties.

minniemomo · 26/04/2021 08:03

44 from today 40 later in the week according to the announcement

ILookAtTheFloor · 26/04/2021 08:13

My husband is 44 mid July, still ineligible here! Surely it must be soon?! We all knew about 44s being able to book by Thursday evening. It must open up to 43yos on the quiet soon.

Frazzled2207 · 26/04/2021 08:17

I’m a bit concerned because the press says timetable for 40-43s later in the week not necessarily that they will be able to make appointments

I know many many under 40s that have had it through GPs but personally not heard.

Why do you think it is low take-up? I am just curious. It has only been two weeks with uneven vaccine supply and, at least in our area, you had to travel considerable distances for appointments. No GP surgeries offering first jabs here at all...
Delatron · 26/04/2021 09:03

The low intake no doubts is all the bad press about AZ. I’m having mine today (44) but I think many 40 year olds are being put off by what they are reading. Maybe they’ll try and wait for another vaccine.
I wonder

how that will work if they are saving the others for under 30s? Do you just refuse for a few months then get your choice?

Anyway, I’d rather just be done.

Meltinthemiddle · 26/04/2021 09:34

Why is it just 44's and not 40-44's 🤦‍♀️

Justdowhatyouweretold · 26/04/2021 09:41

@Meltinthemiddle I'm presuming it's because they are low on supplies but still want to get as many people through as possible.

Good question. If there's apparently a low take up in 45+, why not rollout to all 40+?

Could be possibly be that, contrary to what the government wants people to think (that it's yet again the public's fault - this time refusing vaccines), it's actually a supply issue? It won't exactly help with take up if people are struggling to book and can't get any local appointments. The government must be aware of that, and that closing local hubs and limiting slot availability will discourage people.

If there really is a lower take up in 45+, why not rollout to all early 40s? It surely must be a shortage of supply that's the issue?

Early 40s have to wait until July?

Sloelydoesit · 26/04/2021 09:45

I've had another text message this morning inviting me for the vaccine. It was from NHS vaccine and told me I'd reached the top of the queue!

Very worrying. Clearly some areas have plenty of stock and are speeding through early 40s. Yet areas in London are still struggling with supply issues. It's particularly urgent to get Londoners done (especially the, worse hit in previous waves, outer boroughs). London remains more vulnerable to any future waves because of the frequent mass gatherings, high density housing, and Heathrow airport.

I hope you're able to book very soon Deedippy

AlexandraEiffel · 26/04/2021 09:58

@Tealightsandd no it means if you will be 44 in July. They don't have to wait till July.
