Follow-on to the happy thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4210673-Can-the-40-49-age-group-now-book-their-vaccine.

(I'm jabbed, but just here to read happy news of jabs and try to book DH when it's his time.)

Newly 43 and watching and waiting.
Infuriated by DickheadHusband who doesn’t want his (47) as he wants to “wait”.
He spouts nonsense about it being due to variants and better vaccines to come but he’s terrified of needles and a complete baby so that’s the real truth Angry

Redcrayons · 14/04/2021 16:45

Good luck you young ‘uns. Hope it’s it too long a wait.
A week ago I was very despondent, didn’t think I’d get a look in till May. But I’m currently nursing a very sore arm after it all went live on Monday and I was tipped off in the other thread.

Very glad to be 49 and 3/4 today

mealsonwheelz · 14/04/2021 16:45

44 and just had the text from GP... two weeks to wait

Ceara · 14/04/2021 16:47

@tealightsandd, on the cancelled GP vaccination clinics (Q from last thread): no, not London - Hants

MRex · 14/04/2021 16:51

@mogtheexcellent

My DH is younger so he has to wait Grin

Managed to book both of mine yesterday but need to change the 2nd one as I forgot the at end of term school closes earlier Blush. Anyone know how I do this?

I waited until I had my first, then cancelled and got offered the same one. Tried 119 and got the next Monday so all good (might have got that myself if I'd been patient for a few days).

I was on the previous thread. Here’s a question, grateful if anyone has info. I’ve seen a few references to a lack of supply in the next couple of weeks for first jabs. What does supply look like beyond that, does anyone know?

HastingsIsSuckingDiesel · 14/04/2021 16:56

Thank you so much for the previous thread. With the early warning I could book online, I managed to get a slot for today and had my jab a few hours ago.

Feeling quite relieved tbh, I had Covid a year ago and it absolutely wiped me out, am keen to avoid ever being so ill again!

RedToothBrush · 14/04/2021 16:57

Should be in three weeks time...

Eccle80 · 14/04/2021 17:00

Checking in and waiting for any news of lower 40s booking!

MirandaWest · 14/04/2021 17:07

DH is 48 and having his tomorrow, I’m 45 and having mine on Friday. He thinks he’ll be fine and have no side effects whereas I’m a little more cautious!

WombatChocolate · 14/04/2021 17:09

I don’t think we know about supply into May yet. I think the gov are cagey and do t like to say too much.

When there was going to a be a dip in April supply, NHS England wrote to the licensed vaccine centres to tell them in the weekly update. (These are available on the NHS ENgland site section of advice to licensed vaccine sites and are usually issued on Thursdays but not always). Hancock then reported the shortage in a briefing but it was because there had been news reports about the letter and Qs were coming from journalists about it.

Nothing has been said yet about supply in May.
2nd jabs will have to remain the priority.
Rollout to younger groups will happen bradly in line with supply. JCVI guidance about Phase 2 rollout of vaccine which was issued yesterday to GPs and other providers talks about broadly maintaining the age rollout for operational simplicity, but also gives GPs some flexibility to respond to local circumstances and particularly to attract those who have been or might be hesitant in various age groups. They are told to work hard to get men 45-9 particularly to book ASAP as their data shows hospitalisation of this age group increases but for men is double that of women. They also state that men who work in jobs which have required leaving the home through lockdown and who also have other risk factors such as being in BAME groups, BMI of 30+ and living in areas of deprivation should be targeted.

I think the broad rollout by age will continue and will mostly be based around the supplies for 1st jabs going to large vaccine centres. GPs will mostly deliver 2nd jabs for some times and also target those most in need with the limited supply they have for 1st jabs, but I think we will see more and more regional variation and variation particularly at arc level from GPs as they use their limited supply to meet the specific needs of their geographical area. In some areas that will simply be the oldest eligible groups that they have supply for. In other areas, it could be younger groups who are either shown to be vulnerable or at risk in some way, because it is known take up via the national system will be high for the general age categories in those areas.

Will be interesting to see what supply will be like. I think they don’t want to trumpet a bumper delivery if expected as it raises hopes which can easily be dashed, as we saw in mid March when people thought the 40s rollout was very imminent and then it took another 4 weeks. And they don’t want to worry people or induce panic either. I’d don’t think much more than the broad goal of all adults by 31 July will come between now and then. When they can push ahead a supply is good they will, and the relatively cautious target should still be met if they are low supply weeks too.

Many of the difficulties people are having in booking 2 appointments now, arise from limited supply...much of that limit is probably now....but perhaps they also don’t expect really large supply in 12 weeks either and they can’t book huge numbers of doses for the next couple of weeks even if they have supply now, unless they can be certain the 2nd doses will be there in 12 weeks to complete the course.

And48 · 14/04/2021 17:10

Husband is 49 (50 next week) and had his 1st booked for Sunday. I'm 39 (40 on Monday!) so am on countdown.

mrsknottschicken · 14/04/2021 17:11

Checking in as keeping an eye out for my slightly younger sister!

wonderstuff · 14/04/2021 17:31

I'm 41 and dh 44 so checking in and hoping we'll be able to book in soon. They started on 49-47 a couple of weeks ago here so hoping it won't be too long.

PickAChew · 14/04/2021 17:33

DH had no luck getting in via the national booking site. Completely unable to get a second jab booked, even if he found a slot for a first shot, less than 40 miles from home. Thankfully, his gp, 5 minutes walk away, texted, this nor ING, so he's getting his first dose tomorrow morning.

ChloeDecker · 14/04/2021 17:35

Thank you for the new thread!

Legoninjago1 · 14/04/2021 17:46

@Cailleach

I am 44 and has mine yesterday. Feeling rough today but just shows it's working I suppose.
Ugh poor you. Hope you're stocked up on lemsips. Which one out of interest? Having mine on Sunday. 45.
Cailleach · 14/04/2021 18:09

@Legoninjago1 it was the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

Remmy123 · 14/04/2021 18:11

Why is a 40 year okd so desperate to get this vaccine I don't really get it

CovidHalloween · 14/04/2021 18:15

Watching x

CovidHalloween · 14/04/2021 18:16

@Remmy123 long covid rings a bell a very noisy one.

Comefromaway · 14/04/2021 18:17

Any advice for reducing the likelihood of side effects, especially nausea.

ChristmasTree999 · 14/04/2021 18:23

I’m 40 and had mine today, booked via text from my GP. I guess my area are ahead of schedule? Good luck to everyone waiting.

BunsyGirl · 14/04/2021 18:24

@Remmy123 I have asthma, hospitalised on several occasions but my GP didn’t see fit to include me in group 6 so I have anxiously been waiting to be called in my age group. I was quite ill last year for over six weeks with suspected Covid. I couldn’t climb the stairs and my DH was close to ringing an ambulance on several occasions - he only didn’t because our local A & E was on its’ knees. My incredibly fit uncle (much fitter than me) has had long Covid for over a year and has had two bleeds on the brain which resulted in strokes. The 40 something DH of a colleague was seriously ill with Covid earlier this year. Last year the 30 something son of another colleague was hospitalised with Covid. I could go on. Not many 40 somethings die but they do get seriously ill.

mumohhey · 14/04/2021 18:41

Newly 45 and eligible for the vaccine but was told by nhs that the system hasn't yet updated for us that had a birthday in the last couple of weeks. Advice was to keep checking the online booking system or find a drop on clinic. Someone mentioned one in a London borough. Any idea which one?
