Follow-on to the happy thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4210673-Can-the-40-49-age-group-now-book-their-vaccine.

(I'm jabbed, but just here to read happy news of jabs and try to book DH when it's his time.)

Very weird.

Could be how many AZ they have v the others? So they know they have enough to cover?

WarriorN · 25/04/2021 20:19

Why would they let the 44s have a week (I could only choose from a week ahead if I remember correctly)?

ExpulsoCorona · 25/04/2021 20:19

I doubt that anyone will skip through the cracks. More likely 40-44 from tomorrow and 35-39 later in the week.

Wingingit15 · 25/04/2021 20:23

I really hope Pfizer will become more available to over 40s when our turn finally comes

AlexandraEiffel · 25/04/2021 20:29

I could choose further ahead than a week. It was in 5 day batches and I could keep clicking on another 5 days

Delatron · 25/04/2021 20:41

I think they will need to save the non AZ vaccines for the under 30s? Plus with loads of people apparently not turning up for second doses this is where the surplus vaccines will be. Pfizer will also still be needed for second doses going forward.

CovidHalloween · 25/04/2021 20:56

They are shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t offer a choice.
I guess it all depends how high the number of the ones who reject the AZ is.

nordica · 25/04/2021 21:13

There were lots of stories in all the papers about MHRA still considering an alternative vaccine to AZ for the under 40s a few days ago. Those all made it sound like there is still some time before the rollout moves to that age group.

WarriorN · 25/04/2021 21:31

I was wondering if there were so many just 45's calling the help line, they released the next year's "batch" which also included a load of us 44's.

Wouldn't account for the 43ers though...

How does that make a 40 yr old feel who just misses the cut-off, the risk of a 39 versus 40 yr old can't be materially different. I suspect at some point they would have to reconsider AZ altogether (perhaps for next year).

Does anyone have any news on Novavax? I thought approval would be soon, but maybe MHRA's attention focused on the clot issue currently.

Cheshiresun · 25/04/2021 21:39

I had mine today (Moderna). What a relief! :)

PrtScn · 25/04/2021 22:15

Are things in England different to Wales? I had a letter followed by a text message telling me when my jab was (I’m in the over 40s group). Had the AZ this evening. Nurse said all they’ve been getting in is AZ lately.
So far just sore arm. Hoping tomorrow will be ok as that’s apparently when I’m more likely to get any side effects and everyone I know that has had AZ has been wiped out the next day, apart from one person who just had a sore arm, but wife was bad for 48 hours after it apparently.

MorganSeventh · 26/04/2021 00:27

It's official that booking is now open to 44yr olds.

"The NHS said it would set out when 40 to 43-year-olds would be able to book appointments "in the coming days", as supply allows."

You say they may have to ‘Reconsider AZ altogether’
.................

Why?

For a 1 in a million chance!!!??

WarriorN · 26/04/2021 06:19

It's a shame they didn't announce it last week as when I booked there was a lot of appointments that may not now get taken today as it's so sudden.

Though I imagine they know people try to book....!

There is a 1/50,000 chance for my age group as per latest data released by the EMA. MHRA don't release the risk of the clot by age group.

Given they already pushing up the threshold for AZ to 40 yr olds, i suspect they will reconsider next year even for 40-50 yr olds. Just a hunch, I could be wrong.

What is the 1 in a million chance you are referring to btw? Even the MHRA numbers are now at 1/126,000 and that's across all age groups as they don't release more granular data by age.

MRex · 26/04/2021 06:34

44 are official but the page still isn't updated. 40-43 "in coming days" suggests the page change may be younger? Waiting for more 43yo to say when it's open for them, not open yet for 40.

Booking page obviously expecting more visitors - just tried it and got a 'you are in a queue' message. Let in after a minute or so (still can't book yet, though!)

Maybe one day at a time, 43 yr olds tuesday, 42 yr olds on Wednesday and so on?

Quartz2208 · 26/04/2021 06:50

Page now says 44 by July 2021 so that works actually June 1977 that we worked out last week!

Foosterin · 26/04/2021 06:52

As far as I can tell it will only let through people that have already been able to book since Thursday ie already 44 or about to turn 44 in the next couple of months. I'm Nov 77 and still not eligible.

ProfessorPootle · 26/04/2021 06:53

Front page has changed to 44, if you’ll turn 44 before 1st July. Glad I booked mine end of last week after seeing people could book on this thread, I’m 44 and 11 months and was thinking I’d be lumped in with the over 30s. Booked for this morning

CovidHalloween · 26/04/2021 06:55

The news said that 2/3s of 45-49 have been vaccinated that’s 66%. It will probably increase a bit as some people haven’t got round to book theirs yet, but it does look like the uptake of the vaccine has dropped significantly from the previous age groups which is a real shame. I’m expecting this trend to continue, it explains why the gov is trying encourage the younger to go and get vax.

RumHoney · 26/04/2021 06:59

Hoping I'll be in the next batch now as I'm 11 months off the current cut off. Will be checking regularly!

Eccle80 · 26/04/2021 07:14

@CovidHalloween I’m not sure that is necessarily the case, I assume the figures are based on the weekly stats announced last Thursday which had 59% of 45-49, but they only cover up to the previous Sunday, there have been 100,000 odd a day vaccinated since then which must be mainly that age group
