Selfish people on bus

70smusic · 12/04/2021 18:54

I don’t own a car and today needed to take the bus for an essential journey. I was really shocked to see that of the 8 or so people on the bus, 5 weren’t wearing masks properly. 3 people had them covering the mouth only with their noses exposed, 1 person pulled theirs down to chat on the phone and another had theirs around their neck. I’m assuming all these people are able to wear masks and weren’t exempt as they did have them on - they just weren’t wearing them properly.

I just don’t understand what goes through these people’s minds - do they not care about putting others at risk? It just seems so selfish and ignorant. I got off the bus feeling really panicky that they could have put me (and therefore my family) at risk. I’m not worried about myself but do worry about giving the virus to others (including my DC). I despair Sad

Bastards. I bet they don't even put cheese in their coffee and have literal blood on their hands. #STFAH

🤣🤣🤣

@70smusic

You dont like the risk, stay the fuck at home or get a taxi.

What an unpleasant post. I would have got a taxi if I had the money, but it would have cost a fortune compared to the bus.

Then take the 'risk'.

Buses will have possibly hundreds have people each day that dont have the same level of hygiene or precaution as you yet you chose to go on it anyway to save money and then complain on here.

Sick to death of the mask police when no one has any idea of the legal of prevention they have, if any.

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

I’m not surprised OP, it’s very saddening to see how many aren’t complying anymore. Unfair to other passengers and the driver.
Then dont go on!

People aren't complying any more cos after a year of lockdowns, unreliable statistics, scare mongering media, rules with any safety evidence to support them, the vulnerable are vaccinated which we were all told would be the 'route to freedom'.....people have had ENOUGH

ilovesooty · 12/04/2021 20:21

And I'm getting sick to death of people not following the rules which are still there and thinking "I don't want to" is a good enough reason to bully posters who continue to follow the rules .

Carry on wearing a mask if you feel the need to, but please don’t stress yourself out worrying what others doing. Your chance of catching Covid on a bus is minuscule and your chance of getting seriously is now almost non existent.

Chill out with a tea, coffee, wine or whatever.

Everything’s going to be fine

TheVampiresWife · 12/04/2021 20:32

Surely it’s common knowledge that buses and their patrons tend to be trashy - there’s a certain subsection of society that are obnoxious and rowdy and tend to use buses

I get the bus because I'm disabled, can't walk very far and can't drive. DD gets the bus because she has no interest in learning to drive from an environmental point of view. DH gets the bus because it's more convenient than running a car.

Now I've told you stuff, perhaps you'd like to explain why you're so rude, ignorant and unpleasant?

PurpleOkapi · 12/04/2021 20:37

If you don't want to deal the public, don't go to pubic places or take public transit. If public transit is your only option, be glad it exists. Get yourself a good mask and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.

babbaloushka · 12/04/2021 20:37

People are excited to see masks "scrapped" as though they won't just be non-mandatory, but highly recommended in flu seasons, like in other countries with sensible, science abiding populations.

70smusic · 12/04/2021 20:37

yet you chose to go on it anyway to save money and then complain on here.

I don’t think you understand - it’s not a question of saving money. I simply don’t have the money to take a taxi.

The other issue is that people truly think shaming others with 'selfish' or worse with terms like cuntery and twats still works. It's not anymore.

Brindisi32 · 12/04/2021 20:43

Some folk have never really got the hang of wearing facemasks. At least the infection rates are relatively low at the mo but i can appreciate it doesn't fill you with confidence.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 12/04/2021 20:45

You say there was only around 8 on the bus anyway so hardly heaving I assume given the low numbers of passengers there was adequate space to social distance. Did you open any windows for better ventilation or ask anyone to correct the position of their mask?

I'm quite drunk and that made me almost wet myself Grin
Wellbythebloodyhell · 12/04/2021 20:49

@Heysiriyouknob I really hope you've had the pleasure of getting drunk in a beer garden

Heysiriyouknob · 12/04/2021 20:50

This time last year this would have been a very different thread.

I've not worn a mask more than a handful of times as I've not gone anywhere that needs them because they impare my shit vision even more.

Dh does shopping and school runs.

I find that having the mask over my nose in my line of vision makes things worse. I start to trip over and panic.

Thank fuck for Dh and 18 year old Ds. On my own I'd be fucked.

70smusic · 12/04/2021 20:51

If public transit is your only option, be glad it exists.

Oh, I’m glad it exists. I just wish people would abide by the rules when using it (unless exempt of course) to make it safer for everybody.

Unfair to other passengers and the driver.

Yes, I also feel very sorry for the drivers. I find it sad that people are putting them at risk through their own selfish actions. To anyone who thinks that is acceptable, you might want to read this:

Bus driver 'Tom', who is off sick with Covid-19, has told LBC that TfL "have not done enough to make them safe" and that people are not wearing masks.

If something doesn't change, he is scared "more drivers will die".

We don't know how to protect ourselves anymore than we already are with sanitising and social distancing," he said.

"We're still going out there into the public and the public aren't wearing face coverings.

"The exemption rule is not working because anybody can tell us that they are exempt even if they aren't."

He continued: "People are getting on without masks, chatting on their phones, with total disregard for other passengers and for drivers.

"There will be more losses of life if TfL don't step up to the mark and start policing this."

Technically they shoud have been wearing them properly and are in the wrong. But realistically masks when you have a prolonged exposure to others ie on a bus won't really do much. Especially if the windows are closed. They're just sort of a token in this situation so people 'look' like they're taking precautions.

BluntlySpoken · 12/04/2021 21:11

Good for them.

Infected blood to boot ☺️
Brindisi32 · 12/04/2021 21:16

@Kenshi there are recent studies indicating that cloth masks do reduce transmission and offer some protection for the wearer.

SquirrelFan · 12/04/2021 21:16

OP, I sympathize. It is infuriating when people won't do a really simple thing that has been proven to reduce transmission:
www.thelancet.com/journals/landig/article/PIIS2589-7500(21)00003-0/fulltext.
(sorry, don't know how to do a clicky link)

I don't like masks, I don't like seeing them around, it makes me sad and frightened, but when I see people wearing them at least I know that they are trying; that they are cognizant of their responsibility and I feel a little bit safer. And shame on anyone who knocks public transport and the people who use it!

BluntlySpoken · 12/04/2021 21:18

How does bus driver Tom know he caught it at work?
Could of caught it in a supermarket, off food packets anything

I'm done with it. I haven't worn a mask in ages it's all bollocks. No ones said anything to me ever! No ones gave me weird looks.
Tbh most people I see in the shops have them under noses etc , why bother wearing if not wearing properly. Even the guards in tesco don't wear them properly. And they're passing 100s of people a day. The policeman I saw in the fuel station kiosk with it under chin.
So I guess I'm as selfish as them. I'm past caring and since giving up wearing them. I'm less anxious. Less stressed. But more cautious in the SD.
. Rates here are very low too

Bus drivers are vulnerable to Covid as are other frontline workers The recent infection figures for TFL bus drivers are very high: www.cityam.com/more-than-2000-tfl-bus-drivers-have-caught-covid-19-since-october/
RedcurrantPuff · 12/04/2021 21:45
