Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Summergirl76 · 04/04/2021 22:16

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

I do hope the person pressing the button hasn't gone home for the night!

Pearl97 · 12/04/2021 18:37

@Emred 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ It has started to have a little think about it, before it says no!!!

For those of you still pressing refresh, here a good explainer on herd immunity and why you need to think about geographical location as well as age (basically why it makes sense to vaccine younger people earlier in certain areas of lower uptake in older age groups or where there are far fewer old people straight away) in order to get to herd immunity as quickly as possible.

@daisiesinmay

Hopefully they are adding more as the evening goes on. Mine is for Wednesday - London. I did clear cookies, so that's worth a try? Have checked it so many times I was quite amazed when it went to the next step. Really hoping for more appointments to be put on and fingers crossed for everyone
This is good news and glad you have your appointment. Clearing cookies sounds like a good tip!

@ArtfulPuss

Welldarn same here – please do update if you get through. I know Westpoint is closed + think they're reopening at Greendale but not till end of April, so maybe that's the hold up...
Westpoint opened again yesterday and I suspect is mostly doing second vaccinations at the moment. It is moving at the end of the month but open between now and then. It was only closed for 10 days. Hopefully there will be enough supply to add in some first vaccinations for under 50s soon.

I have just managed to book for my husband - he is 45 and we are in Tooting/London

daisiesinmay · 12/04/2021 19:01

Thanks ChloeDecker I hope things get moving for everyone else

mrsknottschicken · 12/04/2021 19:06

I’ve just booked - I’m 45 and in Surrey. The vaccination centre is nearly an hour away, but I don’t mind. There were others that were closer but I’ve chosen a hospital in the hope that I might get Pfizer maybe... the first available appointment was tomorrow morning but I’m going on Weds.

1forAll74 · 12/04/2021 19:10

I have heard of quite a few people in Hertfordshire, aged 40 plus, who have had their first jabs, and have no health issues at all.

sleepwouldbenice · 12/04/2021 19:10

So pleased for those able to book. It's been a long blooming wait.
I will gently mention I had mine on Friday as a volunteer. Didn't want to say it really as it felt like putting salt in wounds
It feels to me a little like when we were looking at the over 50s st this moment. For now some can do it, by tomorrow many will and then low, the govt will politically announce maybe by 14th......
Ps don't forget to book your second jabs too....

Squidthing · 12/04/2021 19:12

Just tried my husband's details and he's eligible at 45, but I'm not yet at 44. SE London.

@sleepwouldbenice well done for the vaccine and for volunteering! I got mine a month ago through volunteering at the vac center as well GP told me it was def the right thing to do if I continued volunteering. Some people get so close to you and you’re there for helping that we shouldn’t be put in danger. So don’t think you’re putting salt in wound at all.

I’m so glad to see lots of usernames coming up of people who have been watching and waiting for weeks on end....now booked! Wonderful news.

Hope there are stickers for all!

EasterIssland · 12/04/2021 19:14

CooDeGrass · 12/04/2021 19:14

On crap, I didn't get a sticker.....😂
ArtfulPuss · 12/04/2021 19:17

Thanks Serenade, that's good to know re. Westpoint.

WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 19:17

It’s looking like 45 and over in many areas. That’s better than the 48+ we imagined.

Good news that many appointments are available soon too, even if a bit of a drive. Some of you will be in this weeks figures!

Bakeachocolatecake2day · 12/04/2021 19:19

Thank you - Age 47, female booked in Twickenham. DH initially "Not eligible" became eligible about 30 minutes after me.

landofgiants · 12/04/2021 19:22

Well done Bunsygirl and others who have booked.

Different scenario in Wales where you just wait for your call/text. I'm in Betsi Cadwaladr area and all the over 50s I know have been vaccinated or offered the jab, they have started on the 40s as my colleague early 40s has had hers today. I'm 45 and my appointment is in 10 days time (got the text last week) but DP (also 45) has yet to hear. Frustrating as it is, I think we need to accept a certain amount of randomness in booking, even within an area. Good news that people are being booked in.

Iknowtheanswer · 12/04/2021 19:24

49 Hertfordshire, still can't book.
