Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

Has anyone who is not eligible to book on the website had a message come up to say that a vaccine dose has been allocated that is not available through this system please contact your GP.

Out of interest after reading that our area are vaccinating all with learning disabilities I put ds's name in and it came up with this message. Previously when I had put my details in it just came up that you are not eligible to book.
@EasterIssland I am quite curious about this...how do they plan the second dose appointments bearing this in mind. I find the logistics of it all quite amazing. My second dose is booked and it's weeks away...so how do they know what they are going to get, and what happens if it's not the one you had the first time around?
I've no idea as I dot plant it, they tell me this weekend it's x vaccine so we need x amount of volunteers (I do marshalling in my local GP, they need more if it's AZ)
Dont think they're told much in advance which vaccine is going to arrive , so they dont call you much in advance for your second dose(1 week I believe)
In April so far it's been
1w Pfizer
2w AZ
3w Pfizer
4 week , my in laws received a text for their second dose from this GP so it'll be AZ

what age is your DS? Kids have been vaccinating if they had some illness, i.e. learning disabilities,. if that's the case your son is entitled to one as he belongs to group 6
mrsknottschicken · 14/04/2021 15:16

Interesting @EasterIssland - thanks - I guess they must have different systems with the GP sites to the national booking website or something. Who knows?! It must be a massive logistical headache.

Comefromaway · 14/04/2021 15:19

He is 17 and has autism. When they first announced the learning disabilities it definitely came up as not eligible. The actual criteria is severe learning difficulty but my country said it was too difficult to categorise so they would invite everyone. I found out today that my niece, also 17 and with autism has been invited to book (but can't get a slot I assume because of the issue with AZ) so I thought I'd see out of interest.

I think the logistics plan adds a requirement to drop off at least the same amount in 11 weeks, so then the national booking system sets up both appointments. The bit that confuses me is how they're managing it with GPs and particularly with site changes, which could have different capacity. DM, DF and DA had to go to a different site and instead of having all their second dose appointments at the same time to match first dose they were spread through the day - but still all the same day and in age order, so perhaps there was some manual assignment along the way.

wonderstuff · 14/04/2021 15:23

@Comefromaway I think only Pfizer is licensed for 16 & 17 year olds, certainly one is and one isn't so that might be why you have to go via GP.

I guess your son can have a vaccine then which would be pfizer/moderna cuz of his age. maybe that's why they ask you to call the GP. also as a carer for him you might be allowed to have yours (but I'm not 100% sure about it)Good luck! hope you get answers to it,
Comefromaway · 14/04/2021 15:30

I'm booked in tomorrow as a 47 year old.

Dh and dd are vaccinated as carers to my in laws, one of whom has severe dementia.

Eccle80 · 14/04/2021 15:30

The first dose clinic I mentioned for 35+ was posted on their Facebook page and open to anyone in that age group. Their clinic last week went down to 41. It’s a county with high uptake, town not a city and not one with a high BAME proportion.

Just so frustrating that they couldn’t move some doses a few miles to my surgery that seems to be behind most in the area!

EasterIssland · 14/04/2021 15:30

@Summergirl76 think we need a new thread as this one will end soon! :D

MRex · 14/04/2021 15:41

Next thread, 40-44s!

KatherineJaneway · 14/04/2021 15:47

I'm in London and our borough is doing Wednesdays at one vaccine centre as open days. No booking required. As long as you meet the criteria to be vaccinated, you can turn up, queue and get jabbed. Hundreds of people go there each Wednesday.

Hoppyfrog · 14/04/2021 15:49

@MRex

Next thread, 40-44s!
Ooh yes please!
WombatChocolate · 14/04/2021 15:50

Wow, the end of this one has come round fast. Big flurry in last 48 hrs. Lots of people booked and jabbed in that period.

I think upper 40s who are still very much booking and getting downs still have much to talk about. But the lower 40s will be the ones watching and waiting now. Can a titlereflect both?

LemmysAceCard · 14/04/2021 15:55

I am upper 40's and have mine booked for tomorrow. DP is 44 and told not eligible for his, hopefully in a couple of weeks he will be.

Tealightsandd · 14/04/2021 15:56

Title could be something like 'Jabs begin at 40'?

WombatChocolate · 14/04/2021 15:56

Interesting about the drop-in jab session for all elgible. I heard of those too in other areas but mainly in locations with lower take up or after a rollout had run for a couple of weeks to scoop people up.

It sounds like an attempt to deal with hesitancy and simply make it easier for people to get jabbed. Many of the barriers are not actually hesitancy but practical and organisational. Lots of people struggle to plan ahead and book ahead as their lives don’t fit easily with that. Internet access and travel can be barriers. Certainly travel beyond a very small radius of home can be a barrier. Childcare and irregular work mean some people can more easily just make a decision in the day. Sometimes others take someone and can do that when it’s ‘right now’ rather than needing to plan ahead. Vaccination buses which turn up right in the centre of housing estates and mean people literally just need to come out of their front door at get jabbed there and then can also remove lots of the barriers. Many people think some of these barriers shouldn’t be accommodated and people should travel and get their act together etc, but if we want very high take up, creative ways to reach people are needed. Not everyone is on MN looking for the first moment they can book and are eligible.

Tealightsandd · 14/04/2021 15:56

Cross post. Thanks for the new thread.

MRex · 14/04/2021 15:58

Sorry to jump the gun @Summergirl76, I was worried you wouldn't make it back by end of thread to start the next.

Tealightsandd · 14/04/2021 15:59

I know they had drop in clinics in SE London last week for all over 50s and CV. I've heard it helped with hesitancy. Some people felt less pressured if they didn't have to book in advance.

EasterIssland · 14/04/2021 15:59

thanks @MRex!

baggies · 14/04/2021 16:06
