Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

Are people clearing cookies before they try again?

daisiesinmay · 12/04/2021 17:11

Thanks and I hope that everyone else who is trying can get booked in. I'd resigned myself to May but also half thinking it would never happen. Congrats RedCrayons kittykarate I hope you can get booked in soon, it almost can get more frustrating the closer you get I think. It's good that there's some movement now at least for the under 50s

Redcrayons · 12/04/2021 17:11

@WombatChocolate

Perhaps it will take a few hours for all areas to add people.

How far off in time and distance are the booking options? Red crayons, how far would you have to travel and will you? If you can you could book and maybe get a closer one if it comes up later??

It’s at a big centre 5 miles away.
Next nearest was next city about 15 miles away.

I’m in North west.

daisiesinmay · 12/04/2021 17:12

That's a good point Emred I did clear cookies as I had read that on here. My options were a bit of a distance but I can drive so no bother

ArtfulPuss · 12/04/2021 17:13

Ooh, congrats to daisiesinmay, Redcrayons, kittykarate and any other newly successful late 40s bookers! Just tried (49, Devon) and online booking still saying 'not currently eligible', but this is giving me hope!

mrsknottschicken · 12/04/2021 17:14

Just sent a text to my brother in law, who is 50 in 2 weeks and in the north west. Hopefully he will be able to book today or tomorrow. My other brother in law was done a while back as in group 6, though he’s 51 this year. I can’t believe I have brothers in law who are in or nearing their 50s 😱😂.
Anyway, I love hearing about people who have booked in so please keep the updates coming - it gives me hope 🙂

WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 17:14

Red toothbrush, that is so interesting. Thank you.

Tea light, it looks like London is perhaps an anomaly, but broadly speaking there is some impact of geography and take up driving rollout as well as age.

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2021 17:15

WOOOOT to those who have just been able to book.

Good news already.

WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 17:17

And interesting that the sites are gradually being added as well as the people.

Someone is there right now typing stuff in and opening it all up.

We’d like to have them on MN for one of those ‘ask a Question’ live sessions wouldn’t we!

Perhaps it's true it's due to hesitancy rather than Mayor Sadiq Khan's claims of lesser share? Maybe a bit of both.

It's definitely worrying. Interesting how overseas media reports it. They see London as remaining highly vulnerable.

The problem of vaccine hesitancy is all vulnerable including vaccinated are at increased risk. Vaccines might be less effective in the very elderly and possibly the immunocompromised.

Anyway fingers crossed all upper 40s - wherever they live - can book today or tomorrow. It's good news some of you have!

KikoMiko · 12/04/2021 17:21

Just managed to book. 48 in the SW, Cornwall

Catslovepies · 12/04/2021 17:23

Still can't book, 48 in the NW. Will keep trying.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/04/2021 17:24

I've just tried and can't book yet, 46 in the South East.

I've decided that I'd rather get it over and done with than wait for a really local one - DH has said he's happy to take me. I've got a hormonal headache at the moment so don't need it yet though!

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2021 17:25

Perhaps it's true it's due to hesitancy rather than Mayor Sadiq Khan's claims of lesser share? Maybe a bit of both.

I would suspect a bit of both. But its not a signicantly lower level of supply if there is a lesser share. And its possibly in line with levels of take up/hesitancy anyway. Which does make it look much more like its being managed rather than overlooked.

WombatChocolate · 12/04/2021 17:26

This reminds me of people trying to get into the system which shows which school your child was allocated on national offers day. Some places have access an hour or so earlier and everyone posts to say what they’ve got or the system has crashed.

Hope by bedtime all 48s and 49s can access it. Have any 47s yet? Is that looking like cut-off?

Roszie · 12/04/2021 17:27

49 and cant book. Midlands.

Pearl97 · 12/04/2021 17:28

Ditto @Roszie

Eccle80 · 12/04/2021 17:32

Brilliant to hear some of you have been able to book!

fadingfast · 12/04/2021 17:34

I’ve tried a couple of times today and it won’t let me book yet (48, Norfolk)

wintertravel1980 · 12/04/2021 17:35

I keep chatting to our office cleaner. He is in his early 50s, was born in Africa but has been living in the UK for more than 30 years (East London, 5 minutes away from the Excel vaccination hub)

Last week he got 2 calls from his GP inviting him to take up the vaccine. He has now stopped answering his phone. He does not have a strong anti-vaccine view - he just believes that if he has not caught Covid so far (working through all the waves, taking public transport and having 2 teenage kids at school) he is not going to worry about it now when cases are so low.

I am guessing this viewpoint might be quite common. Many people are not anti-vaccines - they are just tired of hearing about Covid and get on with life.

TokyoSushi · 12/04/2021 17:39

It's a no for me, 'only' 41, in Cheshire

BigOldBlue · 12/04/2021 17:40

48 - Berkshire. Was able to book at about 4pm.

Emred · 12/04/2021 17:40

Still cant book. 48. Oxfordshire.

Pearl97 · 12/04/2021 17:42

We’re in for the night ladies, let’s see who can book!

Emred · 12/04/2021 17:44

Yep good luck everyone!
