@ThatchersCold

To many of us it’s been clear almost from the start that the intention was never to go back to normal. We were called conspiracy loons, covidiots, tin foil hatters etc. We tried to warn others and have been laughed at throughout. I think things are becoming a bit clearer now though for some people...
Some people do not, will not, and refuse to believe things until it has literally happened to them. It was always thus.

There is always hope though, with God.

@kittensarecute I will pray for you.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/04/2021 08:08

What I don’t understand is why some people think Boris is simply doing this to control us and say things like welcome to Gilead, but other countries have imposed restrictions too. Or do you think all these leaders have suddenly gone mad and turned into Hitler equivalents?

Itsalonghaul · 06/04/2021 08:16

No, in a word.

No ones fault, but the mutations happened sooner than we would have liked, if we were still only dealing with the first covid, maybe by now, but nope not now. Sorry op.

I think it would be better for everyone if we gave up on the idea of 'normal' and settled for as free as possible at any one time.

Nah. Life will go back to normal.
Itsalonghaul · 06/04/2021 08:20

I do think we will find ways around most of the restrictions to continue with a quality of life though. Acting and singing will continue, just differently. We will have parties, but smaller ones. We will have fun and laugher, and social lives. We will also have quieter times when things will need to close again. Eventually covid will be the same as flu, and viewed no differently. We will have an annual vaccine and that will be that.

frumpety · 06/04/2021 08:40

AcornAutumn Not starting from February last year, starting from when the roadmap out of this lockdown started, so a couple of months tops. What hasn't happened that they said would happen over the last couple of months ?

I am not getting excited about the vaccine passport. Will it be vaild if you have only had one dose like the vast majority of people so far ? There seems to be an onus on businesses to decide if they will expect it or not, as in the Government won't prohibit them from requiring it. Are businesses going to exclude nearly 60 million customers come the beginning of May because they haven't had their second vaccination ?
Will it be useful for foreign travel ? Possibly, if that is what the country you are travelling to requires ( does anyone know if any countries are demanding that currently ? ), I personally think the test before you travel will remain in place. How we deal with people returning will be more important , do they test before travelling back ? on arrival ? a few days later ? Quarantine ? Whatever it is, it needs to be quick, easy and accessible to ensure the majority of people do it.

If masks work so well, why is the virus still spreading?

Read the thread and see how many people are refusing to wear them. The masks are also just a part of it they are not 100% effective, people still need to wash their hands etc which I’m sure some of the PPs are refusing to do also.

As a PP pointed out people aren’t changing them or cleaning them properly. So their effectiveness will be reduced compared to those who are doing it properly.

I hate masks but I do have to admit that I have enjoyed not getting lots of colds this winter like I am usually prone to. That shows that they must be somewhat effective.

Plenty of people are wearing masks The people who are exempt are well in the minority And who the fuck refuses to wash their hands. Eeew I hate masks. I don’t wear one . I can’t remember when I last had a cold Maybe 5 years ago. Certainly had nothing since I took vit d3 with k2 over 18 months ago Also zinc ascorbate Also multi vitamin b

Every day. Without fail.
So do all my 11 family.
No one has been sick ..at all.

toocold54 · 06/04/2021 08:51

I think the vaccination passports will come in when everything has opened up properly and things are back to more normality like when people can meet inside, don’t need to socially distance as much etc and then everyone would have had the opportunity to have both jabs. Else it wouldn’t be fair to everyone who hasn’t been offered the vaccination yet/businesses to lose customers.

toocold54 · 06/04/2021 08:53

That’s great!
Vitamins are essential for strong immune systems. If you can’t get enough through food and sunshine then I definitely recommend taking a supplement.

toocold54 · 06/04/2021 08:57

I’m sure people in areas of high malaria hate bed nets but they use them to create a barrier to stop the mosquito getting to them during the night.
It’s not a way to kill the Protozoa and they’re of course not 100% effective but it just reduces the risk. Just like masks.

Not all. Some.

How much devastation was done with 1 country and 1 leader?

frumpety · 06/04/2021 09:19

Are there any countries that haven't imposed any restrictions during the last year ?

mrshoho · 06/04/2021 09:20

This comparison with Hitler is what I find absurd and distasteful. Governments around the world are imposing restrictions with the aim of protecting their health systems and their people whilst trying to balance finding ways to keep their economies functioning and some sort of normal life. If there were to be comparisons with the rise of Hitler then surely it would be if governments chose to plough on with limited restrictions and adopt a survival of the fittest mentality? That is a far more worrying scenario in my mind.

Painauchocolat189 · 06/04/2021 09:23

We will get there.
What I tell myself is that after 9/11 we had certain changes which have stayed with us. It has affected the way we do things for instance at airports, but it hasn't limited our freedoms in terms of freedom of movement and so on.
I think the Daily Mail and other tabloids do no favours whatsoever, one day holidays are on, next day they're off, and repeat.
I find that taking a few days off the news really helps.

purplebatbear · 07/04/2021 23:36

@whymewhyme

If masks work so well, why is the virus still spreading?
Because people can be selfish idiots & aren't all wearing masks/social distancing/being thoughtful/following the actually science (I look to independent Sage for decent advice).

So because of people being selfish the virus keeps going as they're creating the environment for that to happen.

Pretty simple really.

Cadburys345 · 08/04/2021 10:57

Let's stop with the shaming and blaming. It's worrying how much this is happening, let's stop calling people 'selfish twats" for wanting to live after a year of restrictions.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/04/2021 12:54

@Beebityboo

I get really fed up with the comparisons to Nazi Germany too. The situations are not comparable and its honestly a bit offensive. There is some stuff here to keep an eye on, but over the top comparisons to the Third Reich is not the way to do it.
Agree.

The problem is, WHEN we get back to normal, these people will all be convinced that they are the ones who saved us all, because they had the courage to stand up to our evil Nazi overlords (by grousing online). Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/04/2021 13:03

Btw I'm fed up, but optimistic. While I definitely thought things would be further along by now, I feel we're moving in the right direction. My DS is back in school, and today he's on a playdate. We're able to meet friends and family, we've got a couple of restaurant meals booked in May, and I see people out and about and mingling quite happily. We are getting there, it's just a bloody slog.

Is he on a playdate outdoors?
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/04/2021 14:05

Absolutely. Utterly bored of hearing "selfish" comments now.

YOU can FOTTFSOF with that now. I will NEVER give up on the idea of normal

And "selfish twats" 🥱 I love the idea that it is only spread by people breaking the rules but you know that's a myth don't you?

Yes, you are.

Dowser · 12/04/2021 08:07

Oh hallelujah!
The great reopening today.
Get up! Get ready! Get packed! Get off to the caravan!
Cant wait.
Let’s see how normal everything is.
I hope it’s not ruined by yards of environmentally hazardous black and yellow tape. Yucky sanitiser everywhere. Face nappies/ snot rags! I want to see faces.
Stupid signs cluttering up the pavements. Covidiots marshalling you ways that you don’t want to go and telling you where to stand.

Ready! steady! Charge!

Wish me luck!
