Oblomov look at the timeline of how things have been done. If you can't see the goalposts moving and the u turns....!

Meanwhile tourists happily continue flying in.

frumpety · 05/04/2021 22:25

AcornAutumn can you be more specific ? What has the Government said would happen in the roadmap out of lockdown and hasn't ?

Listener2021 · 05/04/2021 22:30

Was feeling really hopeful but then heard about Chile and its new lockdown despite very successful vaccination roll out.

I'm expecting a normal ish few months but realistically prepared that autumn/winter will be a repeat of what we've just been through. Quite depressing reading about the situation in Chile.

Confuzzlediddled · 05/04/2021 22:38

I get the feeling more and more people who complain about "new normal" masks, vaccines are the very people who actually want things to drag on forever and Draconian restriction, just so they can say "I told you so"

Beebityboo · 05/04/2021 22:38

Does anyone know why the situation has worsened again in Chile but Israel is still doing well? I know

Beebityboo · 05/04/2021 22:40

Sorry, posted too soon. That Israel still has some closed schools but it looks like things are mostly back to normal with no new wave?

Why would it just be a repeat when no-one was vaccinated that time last year and almost everyone should be by that time this year? Is it the case in Chile that almost everyone has been vaccinated and they just don't work?

This is why.

Israel used Pfizer, Chile used Sinovac (which was batting only around 50% effective). I guess that doesn't bode well for China's opening?

Chile is showing ITU beds at 95% capacity despite over half the population having had at least 1st dose. Is it new variants? They have announced all borders to close and people are bring asked to stay indoors.

Israel looks to be far better but then they have been closed off to international travel for some time.

ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2021 22:58

So what isn't happening from the 12th that the Government said previously in the roadmap that it would be

Chile went heavy on the Sinovac vaccine, unfortunately it's not sufficiently effective.
ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2021 23:00

So surely we need to ensure that the vaccines we have work effectively before we go rushing back to normal

Well...yes, but we know the efficacy of ours and we know the efficacy of their's.

Tbh, the low efficacy of sinovac was known months ago. Chris Whitty alluded to the likely cause when he responded to a (Beth Rigby's?) question around Chile, the first possible reason he gave for Chile's outcome was "the vaccines used".

mrshoho · 05/04/2021 23:13

Yes, It could be the relaxing of travel restrictions that caused the surge in Chile. It could also be the type of vaccine they used. Whatever the reasons it should be a warning that this is a possibility here at some point. It's not what anyone wants to hear I know.

They are certainly loving it.
ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2021 23:23

Do you think we should take people seriously who use the term face nappies? Do you tell surgeons, other healthcare workers that they wear face nappies?

AcornAutumn · 05/04/2021 23:25

I don't get the idea that those of us scared of the long term use of masks are wanting to say I told you so?

Every day is a fucking nightmare.

AcornAutumn · 05/04/2021 23:25

Long term legislation for masks, to be clear.

Beebityboo · 05/04/2021 23:25

I get really fed up with the comparisons to Nazi Germany too. The situations are not comparable and its honestly a bit offensive. There is some stuff here to keep an eye on, but over the top comparisons to the Third Reich is not the way to do it.

We went to a beautiful park today.
Some of the paths carved into the hillside , with a river running through the bottom
We Stopped at a tearoom for take away hot drinks.
There was one of those picnic benches..it had a bit of black and yellow tape, some of it had been broken off , so loads of room to sit and drink our drinks...me ,dh and son, wife and three sons
Only ones InThe garden.
The owner of the takeaway asked us not to sit there.
Nobody there. Just us. If I’d gone to the kiosk I’d have had something to say, but I didn’t as I could see benches up above us where it was sunnier
So We walked about twenty yards up a path to a higher level, were there were loads of untaped benches and far more people.

How did that make sense.
How is that about a deadly virus.

It isn’t.
It’s about fear and control .
