@EasterIssland I agree. So why is that not happening ? It's v strange behaviour.

jasjas1973 · 01/04/2021 09:18

I am not ignoring the others involved, I never have. But even your post ends with a chastisement for being British - "often ignored by many in the UK."

Yes but it is, i posted a link to this on another thread - completely ignored but when Pfizer criticise the EU... jumped on and loudly shouted out!!!
Just praising the UK's Oxf input whilst ignoring the EU and Astra's contribution is a bit like celebrating a UK Gold medalist, whilst ignoring all of the other competitors who make the competition what is it.

AnchorAmore · 01/04/2021 09:19

Yes unfortunately it’s just a lot less sensationalist if posts had said

‘I think maybe some countries might be worried about working with the EU in future’ and ‘maybe some of the AZ will go out of date and be wasted with these delays refining groups who will get AZ in the EU.’

Much better to make large alarmist statements based on nothing but supposition like “There are now at least 19 countries looking at the EU, and some of the individual countries, and wondering how to deal with them in future” I mean at least 19 wow.

Or “ If EU don't want AZ what justification do they give for not sending it to UK so it's not wasted ? Please someone explain. Or is it just spite.” “ it’s looking more and more likely that it’s spite ....I never thought the EU would behave like this, it makes no sense.”

Like OMG a massive anti U.K. agenda being organised at the highest levels of the EU to sabotage the U.K.

What’s actually nuts is all the posters riling each other up here presenting their opinions as facts. I can’t believe this is the 3rd thread of this rubbish!!!

MarshaBradyo · 01/04/2021 09:22
@jasjas1973 sometimes there is a particulalrly invidious "Fuck you you colonialist Brit" vibe around here. See above taking pot shots because of the shorthand way of describing AZ - "Oh no, it was a multi national team, it is not a British anything" yet happily saying "The Kent Variant" as a slur, when we all know it could have come from anywheer, just as the SA, Brazil etc variants.

As you said, the international cooperation in developing this vaccine, many others, genome sequencing, the component parts being shipped out across the world, etc etc, is al a bloody brilliant effort and SHOULD be celebrated LOUDLY!

I am not ignoring the others involved, I never have. But even your post ends with a chastisement for being British - "often ignored by many in the UK."

Like many others I am not ignoring anything, just trying to say "Look what we did" and be proud of it!
Yes it’s ridiculous and has been for a while.

If you indicate you are proud of U.K. for developing vaccine and other scientific breakthroughs posters go nuts with flag waving etc slurs.

Crazy

MoChridhe · 01/04/2021 09:22

I just watched a piece on France 24 about Gibraltar. Over 90% of the population vaccinated. No new infections reported for many weeks now. They are now offering jabs to Spanish workers.

AnchorAmore · 01/04/2021 09:23
@AnchorAmore great that your country is using it all up. Germany and France are not - its sitting in fridges. So they could give it to your country but strangely they don't. Why ?
Probably as they are planning to use it on the narrower defined groups they are deciding on.... no doubt if the expiry date is getting close they won’t just sit on it but will redistribute it to other EU countries.

But what do I know! I don’t have the ear of Angela Merkel like so many posters here seem to with their concrete knowledge of the decisions the German government are apparently making.

mumsneedwine · 01/04/2021 09:24

@AnchorAmore it feels very anti UK when the head of EU says she's going to withhold our paid for vaccines. Manufacturered in a factory partly paid for by UK taxpayer to set up. Research paid for by UK tax payer. It feels very personal I'm afraid.
And companies are looking at the EU now as a place not to do business. Not unless you want your product blocked for export.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/04/2021 09:25

Just praising the UK's Oxf input whilst ignoring the EU and Astra's contribution is a bit like celebrating a UK Gold medalist, whilst ignoring all of the other competitors who make the competition what is it.

And from another perspective - simply trying to say "Look, we had input, let's shout hurrah" gets "But lots of other people did yoo, they were clever weren't they?" responses - just as you did then!

Can you not see that? Just allow that we can have pride in being British, with British accomplishments without having to acknowledge the world and his bloody dog!

I don't know what you posted that got ignored but I do know that some posters are angry and scared enough not to take a balanced view, from any perspective.

Remember you are talking about people whose yearly contact with Europe as a whole is the Eurovison Song Contest. And, as it turns out, that shit really isn't the funny joke many have thought it was!

MarshaBradyo · 01/04/2021 09:26

JasJas you weren’t ignored I quoted that post and asked you a question which wasn’t answered

schnubbins · 01/04/2021 09:26

@AnchorAmore I am beginning to wonder if I am living in a different EU to the one being discussed here . The whole thread is indeed completely nuts!

SpringTimeDream · 01/04/2021 09:28

The EU threaten this and that. Say the vaccine is ok, then it isn't, suspend and then restart then suspend again. Many countries in Europe have more surges of infections.

Meanwhile we in the UK are continuing to go about vaccinated more and more people.

What will happen to AZ supply to U.K.?
@AnchorAmore I am beginning to wonder if I am living in a different EU to the one being discussed here . The whole thread is indeed completely nuts!
Not really. Which part?

It’s based on decisions that may impact us here.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/04/2021 09:30

@AnchorAmore the 19 are the countries that are busy sending component parts for Pfizer and AZ and other vaccines across the world and seeing the EU and some European countries decide that they have the right to block export of the finished goods. There could be others, but there are at least 19 that are seeing it happen, right now. It wasn't hyperbole and I didn't say any of the other things you seem to have derived from my posts!

But others have because the EU stance in nonsensical. Trying to make sense of it will sometimes be equally ridiculous.

What do YOU think is happening? How do YOU explain the situation?

Itsalonghaul · 01/04/2021 09:31

notimagain I hope your hospital visit goes well today Flowers

caspianberg The UK are, as we have done the maths, on track to vaccinate all adults by June/July.

We have already vaccinated 31.5 million adults already and have broken the chain of transmission.
So we are not expecting a third wave at all, bar a mutant strain popping up and wiping out all of the vaccines - that seems unlikely. So no, we are not expecting a wave anything like what can be seen in Europe even after the lockdown has ended. That was the whole point of the vaccine programme being rolled out as quickly as possible. Had the EU commission successfully rolled out a vaccine in time, the third wave would have been kept in check to some degree.

I feel very bad for the people of Europe they do not deserve this to happen to them. They have put their trust in the EU and in their governments to keep them safe, and they have failed to do their job.

AnchorAmore · 01/04/2021 09:31

@mumsneedwine I mean honestly it’s not always about someone being out to get the U.K.

The EU vaccination drive is a shambles, cases are rising and a third wave approaching, vulnerable need to be vaccinated and all these vaccines are leaving the block and the expected supplies are not coming. Of course they are going to do what they can to keep as many vaccines in the EU as possible to help them get as many people vaccinated as possible.

Literally nothing to do with the U.K. bar you being impacted by supply as a side effect of the vaccines potentially being kept in the EU.

Do you feel that India are decidedly ‘anti U.K.’ and its personal against the U.K. as they are blocking the export of many more millions of vaccine due to go to the U.K. than due from the EU? Their blockage will have a much bigger impact on your vaccine supply. Are you concerned about the anti U.K. Indian agenda? If not then why not?

And companies are looking at the EU now as a place not to do business what companies specifically have come out and said this?

jasjas1973 · 01/04/2021 09:32

Well the large numbers of AZ vaccine due to come from India which are now being blocked by the Indian government will have the largest impact on AZ supply to the U.K.

The relatively smaller numbers due from the EU will also have an impact on supply so overall AZ supply to the U.K. is going to go down.

jasjas1973 · 01/04/2021 09:35

^This.... lets try and be even handed of any criticism, the US as well has a USA first policy on vaccinations too, as does the UK within its contracts with manufacturers.

mumsneedwine · 01/04/2021 09:35

@AnchorAmore so why did VDL specifically say she'd stop exports to UK ? Seems pretty directed at UK.
Pfizer making it pretty clear this morning how they feel about future manufacturing in EU. And others have been mentioned in the press.
I know it's hard to accept but the EU leadership hate the UK. They hate to see us doing well at something without them. Actual people I'm sure don't feel that way at all. But unfortunately the decision makers hate our little island and always have done 🤷‍♀️

Why do you think that?

FourTeaFallOut · 01/04/2021 09:38

We only procured 10m doses at the very end of February, which was knocked on the head only weeks later. It's not really the same.

mumsneedwine · 01/04/2021 09:39

@AnchorAmore because of the words that come out of their mouths.
