Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

I dont see a problem to be honest. It would of been wrong at the start but now all the vulnerable groups have been offered the jab I don’t think it matters who the rest goes to as long as it’s being used! Anyone healthy below 50 is pretty much all at the same risk which is extremely small so what does it matter in what order now.we are all going to be offered it sooner or later

EvilPea · 22/03/2021 20:41

I’ve heard of one doctor lying to get his second jab right at the beginning of vaccines but got found out.

Now it’s flowing and the vulnerable should have been done, I’m not sure I can get that pissed off , frankly the more that get it the better as it protects everyone even the vulnerable.

Doomsdayiscoming · 22/03/2021 20:44

@Dongdingdong

Problem is these people are probably the morons breaking lockdown rules and have had covid.

I assume they just want the jab so they can go Zante/Benidorm/Reef.

There are so many generalizations in this post I don’t know where to begin.

Pretty good right?
Nellie850 · 22/03/2021 20:45

@mumwalk if you’re over 50 you can just go online and book it? If I’ve understood correctly.

TheRealHousewife · 22/03/2021 20:50

My OH is a genuine unpaid carer for me. My GP refused to enter him on the register as he isn’t on benefits. This is actually against Government Guidance which says a GP has a duty and responsibility to register all careers including unpaid.

2020isnotbehaving · 22/03/2021 20:54

That’s the point anyone can click now and say they are unpaid carer. You need no prove or benefits. As it can’t be proved

ClaireFraser2018 · 22/03/2021 20:58

I work in a care home. When I had my first vaccination, they checked this on the computer.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/03/2021 21:08

Checked it how on the computer? Is there a register of everyone's employers via hmrc?
Sansaplans · 22/03/2021 21:09

No, they checked in details of your booking, there's no way to see your employment on their system.

mumwalk · 22/03/2021 21:10

@nellie850 only in England. It's not available all across the UK.

2020isnotbehaving · 22/03/2021 21:10

Just tried it as unpaid carer but now it only says I can book if the person is CEV so that would out do most of the I get my nans shopping type.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/03/2021 21:21

But when you book via the NHS website it's merely a click of a button to say you work as a front line worker, or social worker, or in a care home, no proof required to make that booking online. Anyone could tick anything. I clicked front line worker, the website did ask me to bring proof like a payslip or ID badge, but I wasn't asked for it at the vaccination centre.
Nellie850 · 22/03/2021 21:22

@mumwalk ok, sorry. Silly me for thinking there would be a joined up approach to all this eh Confused over 50’s can also register in Scotland, just in case your there but I’m guessing not and you’ll know the rules where you are. Hope you get called up soon!

Zolrets · 22/03/2021 21:24

@Witchlight from your description I would say you are a carer.

I registered as an unpaid carer with my GP as my parent is housebound, has no alternative care and has restricted mobility. I do all the shopping, prescriptions, bills, gardening, household maintenance, cleaning. I am the only visitor to the house. They receive higher level attendance allowance. I don’t claim anything as I work full time. I haven’t been invited for vaccination by my GP. I looked on the government website and it says unpaid carers ARE now eligible BUT only if the person you care for is clinically vulnerable. Despite my parent’s higher level attendance allowance, they don’t meet that criteria. I’m a little anxious as without me to go round I have no clue what would happen but I’m resigned to waiting and hope that others being vaccinated will reduce the chances of me contracting Covid.

Boymum123 · 22/03/2021 21:29

I'm an unpaid carer and they definitely checked my NHS records for the this- you have to be registered as one at your gp surgery. (I also had my letter with me too)

ShipOfTheseus · 22/03/2021 21:30

I know someone who cares for her DH who is in the shielding CEV category, and she hasn’t been called. She works, though, and isn’t an official carer. The Dh hasn’t left the house for a year.

3peassuit · 22/03/2021 21:34

I’m classified as an unpaid career for my daughter who receives full PIP and mobility allowance. I’ve been called for my vaccine because of this though my daughter has not been recognised as CEV. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Doomsdayiscoming · 22/03/2021 21:41

@Wellbythebloodyhell

What was your motive for getting the jab now?

Wellbythebloodyhell · 22/03/2021 21:48

New to the job, NHS, went online to book the vaccine , don't fear I had the necessary proof with me had it been asked for

MabelWotsits · 22/03/2021 21:50

All the staff at my local school booked theres as health workers because they do first aid Confused

My neighbours booked because they get her old man's shopping sometimes

It's a piss take.

I'm in group 6 clinically vulnerable. Also in a refuge away from home so can't get the vaccine at my GP. I now can't get an appointment at local vaccine centres because they're all booked up.
TreacleTits · 22/03/2021 22:02

I know of a few people since this post started that have booked as an unpaid carer. Having seen some of the posts of those that should really be getting it but are being knocked back, I really don’t think it’s right. It took a while for me to get my appointment because there was “no spaces left”

To have the audacity to state you are an unpaid carer, someone who puts other people before themselves, when actually you are only thinking of yourself , well.....

Merrymermaid7 · 22/03/2021 22:46

This...there are people who don't turn up etc. I had mine through work, had to book on GOV site. It didn't say to bring ID but luckily I did and my work phone or I would have been sent away like the bloke before me

Mamanyt · 22/03/2021 22:56

It is rampant in the USA, as well. LOL, we've even had idiots dressed in grey wigs and housedresses showing up, trying to claim that they were over 60! THOSE were quickly found out and ejected from the clinics involved.

Iamclearlyamug · 23/03/2021 04:39

@KittyMcKitty but what proof can you ask for? In fact everything I’ve read suggests unpaid carers shouldn’t be asked for proof as not everybody has it.

I’m an unpaid carer for my mum who has severe rheumatoid arthritis and can barely get out of bed some days, but she claims no benefits and neither do i, I’ve got my first jab booked for Sunday and if I get asked for some kind of proof then I’ll have to walk away 😥 because I don’t have any, the same as thousands of other carers. My booking confirmation has just said to take my reference numbers, photo ID and my NHS number IF I know it (I don’t) it doesn’t say anything about providing proof
