Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

@Cookerhood

Exactly the same as here TSR1. As I said up thread, round here (& I imagine other places) there is a batch going out of date on March 31st so they need to use it up.
Hope it's not like the food items you find at the back of your fridge around their use by date

My vile ex sister in law lied about this. She is not an unpaid carer and nobody checked at the mass vaccination centre.

Several vaccination centres have said many people are falsely claiming they are front-line health or social care workers when they book an appointment.
One London pharmacist said he is having to turn away "dozens" of people a week who have lied about their eligibility.

I can well believe this is happening but I don't know whether it's important at this stage or not really now hopefully the most vulnerable have been vaccinated.

Whilst the rollout has been brilliant and I found the actual vaccine centre well organised, I think the system has been chaotic. Locally you can book if you're over 45 at the large hub (not using the central website, apparently you use Eventbrite) or if your GP contacts you you book via a different website organised by the surgery and they're still on group 6. And then the national website is at 50 + years.

And don't get me started on GPs doing vaccinations when the actual GP service has gone to rat shit around here.....

I did get vaccinated alongside my dd, she was eligible because she's cv, I'm one year off 50 and work with elderly people but because we aren't residential I couldn't be vaccinated via work. I don't do personal care for my dd but I do manage her medications and ensure she actually eats. Plenty of friends living in cities have been vaccinated in their 40's via gp not cv, not carers because there's not as many elderly there as here!

They know people don't have proof, that isn't necessarily the same as those people having lied. Some people have dreadful organisation skills and might struggle to have the correct information. I found going through as a group 6 unnecessarily difficult because of being asked 3 times if I was a carer and showing my "underlying conditions" text invite to prove I'd been invited to book for myself. The thing that was particularly stressful was that I'd booked before getting the text when someone here said it had been opened up to group 6 and I kept thinking how I'd have been turned away. I'm sure some have lied, but there can't be that many who are willing to do that for no reason for a big fuss to be made about it.

@Spikeyball

If you work you can't claim carers allowance and not all of us are members of local carers associations because they simply don't exist in rural areas. But as I attended with my dd nobody questioned me

I work for a company inside NHS, i was eligible in January. Unfortunately my company couldn't be bothered to organize it for me. Eventually I booked myself in using the app in mid march. Still needed official ID which didn't arrive. The day before I had vaccine I had to get company to send photo of ID. Two days before vaccine my GP sent letter to book me in, as my age category was next. 🤬

I called 119 to check whether the care I provide for my (elderly) parents meant I met the criteria for being an unpaid career. I answered all questions truthfully - for example, that I didn't help them with personal care although I did provide care in some of the other categories.

On that basis, I was booked in by the 119 person and have just had my vaccination. I could have selected "unpaid carer" on the NHS booking website but wanted to check with someone in case I didn't qualify. I had a signed letter from my parents with a list of the care I provide but it wasn't looked at (though I was asked to confirm that I was in this category).

Just in case that's useful for people who aren't sure whether they meet the criteria for unpaid carers or not.
