Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

@huggzy

I had my vaccine as I'm an unpaid carer. I had to be flagged as a carer on my GP's file and to do this I had to show my GP surgery proof that my son receives DLA.

It might have changed but when I last checked, you could only book online if you claim carers allowance. If you're a carer but don't claim carers allowance you have to wait to be contacted. So I can't work out how people can just pretend to be a carer? Unless perhaps their GP surgery aren't asking for proof?

Unpaid carer is now an option on the nhs booking website.
Cookerhood · 22/03/2021 19:28

When I went to the vaccine centre I was asked if I was a carer, either voluntary or paid for anyone. I said no as that’s the truth but unsure what lying would have done

This is just one of the questions on their computer screen that is compulsory. I don't ask everyone but probably should.

dementedma · 22/03/2021 19:30

I booked as unpaid carer for my 86 year old mother, which I am. I’m registered with local carers group but wasn’t asked to show any ID or proof. DS and DD wondered if they would count(19 and 30) as they also do stuff for mum regularly face to face - shopping etc - but aren’t really carers. They tried registering out of interest to see what would happen - they both have vaccines now for the weekend.
I’m torn between being pleased they will be vaccinated and are less risk to mum who we all look after (I work FT so need them to help and they see her most days to do chores etc), but also a bit uneasy that they are “queue jumping”.

Dailywalk · 22/03/2021 19:30

@HenGab4

Construction workers are getting them on specific sites but only from the ones that are left over after people have failed to attend their appointments. So rather than waste the vaccine the workers are being given them on a standby basis. This is happening in other places too but I’m not saying where so people can’t ring and complain.
I think this is fair. Very difficult to social distance on a building site and you can’t work from the safety of your own home if you are a plumber, electrician, brick is etc. they will have worked throughout the last year often in close proximity.
Dailywalk · 22/03/2021 19:31

@TheJerkStore

I really can't get too worked up about this. People wanting to be vaccinated is a good thing! Too many are going to waste as it is .... I'd rather they were used.
Are they being wasted? I hope this isn’t true.
TheJerkStore · 22/03/2021 19:36

Are they being wasted? I hope this isn’t true.

Apparently they are in my area. There was a pop up vaccination centre near me on Saturday because vaccine uptake is low - lots of appointments being missed at GPs so they tried a community based approach.
Hardly anyone turned up so by the afternoon they were vaccinating anyone who wanted one. DH pooped by on the off chance and was vaccinated in minutes.

TheJerkStore · 22/03/2021 19:36

*popped by 🙈

huggzy · 22/03/2021 19:44

Thanks. Good news for carers but a shame it's open to abuse.

KisstheTeapot14 · 22/03/2021 19:45

Yes same here - our son gets DLA and needs oodles of care (and that is not an easy thing to get - they ask for a lot of evidence) so I could have used that as proof even though I don't get Carers Allowance.

My GP surgery had flagged up I was a carer based on me saying that via email (though they could easily look at our son's health records and see why if they wanted to).

BitterestPill · 22/03/2021 19:48

My 17 year old DD is having her vaccine tomorrow because she had an ECG 5 years ago, I did try and explain that they didnt find anything wrong but my GP surgery were pretty insistent that she has it. I did say I would rather her teachers at school had it before her but they said that's not how it works.
I've had my first one and just waiting on my second

KisstheTeapot14 · 22/03/2021 19:50

@huggzy yes I was told same - ring surgery in a week and/or we will contact you. Either way when I had spoken to GP about being a carer for our son it was flagged and I got invited. Glad I have got it done - it will make a big difference to us in how safe we feel (still being careful mind you).

mumwalk · 22/03/2021 19:52

Have to be honest, I'm very disappointed by people skipping the queue by claiming to be carers when they're clearly not. We have 3 primary kids, no family support, and both over 50. No sign of a jag for us yet and we don't have access to NHS site to book ourselves.

Twattergy · 22/03/2021 20:01

Selfish in the extreme. There is a perfectly good system in place to ensure those most at risk from a medical pov get vaccinated first. To mess with that system is extremely selfish and also counter productive . If a younger lower risk person gets the vaccine before an older more at risk person, then hospitalisation rates will not go down as quickly because the most at risk will lag behind the lower risk. People are doing this for purely selfish reasons and have lost sight of what the purpose of the vaccination process is. Boils my blood.

amispeakingenglish · 22/03/2021 20:02

@Pastanred All teachers should have been offered a jab 2 weeks before the schools opened. I have to take the risk, which is not fair as my teacher D lives at home. How is that right? Plus they are mixing with all those children & teens who we know carry it and don't get ill so no symptoms. I wonder with that spelling how you teach anything at all!!!

rainbowbear10 · 22/03/2021 20:06

Not everyone who is an unpaid carer claims carers allowance orregistered with a GP or their local carer's centre so would not have proof . A lot of genuine carers do not realise they qualify for support .and a covid vaccination ahead of the others but like everything else there a those who flout the rules ..

Pastanred · 22/03/2021 20:08

Yes all those dodgy kids 🙈 strange how rates have hardly changed since they went back isn’t it

Not a single child in any of the schools and colleges I connect with have had a single case but you keep living in fear!

Dongdingdong · 22/03/2021 20:10

Shrug... I find it hard to get worked up about this. It’s a positive thing that so many people want to get the vaccine and the more people who are protected, the better it is for all of us.

Fluffmum · 22/03/2021 20:16

I’m an unpaid carer with hypertension, obese and I’m over 50. I haven’t been invited for the vaccination yet!

Book online.
NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 20:17

I was going to say well it's out of order but loads of people put themselves first.

Then my brain clicked on 'with all of his builder mates' and I remembered that the building trade is the one the government seemed not at all keen to reduce/ stop. Even though there were loads of reports saying you can't socially distance, contact with loads of different people etc.

And then I thought well maybe they're simply worried about the people close to them.

OTOH DH works for an employer which I think (?) might be one of the hardest hit for deaths, or the hardest hit. He's been working all the way through, contact with public etc and he's not had one. He personally has 4 colleagues he knew (rather than elsewhere in the company which is very large) die. And his role doesn't meet that many other colleagues either as it's out and about.

Mixed feelings.

Problem is these people are probably the morons breaking lockdown rules and have had covid.

I assume they just want the jab so they can go Zante/Benidorm/Reef.

What a horrible, judgemental comment.

KittyMcKitty · 22/03/2021 20:36

@EmilyDickinson

When I went for my vaccine I got a hard look from the person checking me in and he pointed at my birth date on the screen and asked me if it was really correct. I was a bit taken aback and said it was. He said that they got a lot of people lying about their birth dates to get vaccines. I’ve decided to take it as a compliment
You can’t lie about your DOB the National booking system will pull your nhs number and the clinic will link your booking to your medical records so yiu really can’t lie.

Lots of people lie about being carers - we check and have cancelled appointments/ turned people away.

You don’t need to be invited if you’re an eligible group yiu just book.

There are so many generalizations in this post I don’t know where to begin.
