Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

Typical MNetter 😂

Ffs, me and every other single person who quoted your post. And there's plenty of them. Ever considered that it might be your wording that is wrong?

DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 10:08

"So David basically your saying its OK for people to say there a carer when there not and get ahead in the queue for there vaccine and yes I am due my second vaccine now my gp surgery sent a letter apologising for the wait."

No, you are due in 3-10 days if you had it on 7th January. Your GP doesn't need to apologise for "the wait".

You know nobody is saying that and also that nobody has jumped ahead of you by pretending to be a carer.

Vivana · 22/03/2021 10:14

Well they sent the letter I did not ask for it Grin

DavidsSchitt · 22/03/2021 10:22

Ok Confused

Glad you're getting your second dose of your group 1 priority vaccine at the exact right time and that nobody has "pushed in front of you" - like a said in the first place.

Bizarre.

Hopra · 22/03/2021 10:28

When they are vaccinating 700k a day plus, I don’t think they will be overly concerned about a few breaking rules. It’s just about getting it all done as soon as possible. To be honest I wouldn’t blame Teachers/Police and people with vulnerable parents doing this.

partyatthepalace · 22/03/2021 10:31
@Witchlight: In our house, we both do the caring. I empathise with the cold thing. It usually takes me 6-8 weeks to get rid of a cold. The first two weeks of that, I'm awake most of the night coughing and hacking...

I'm the registered carer, but if DH goes down with something, there's no way I'd cope without support. No priority vaccine for him.

@partyatthepalace: it matters when those who need it/are vulnerable can't get a vaccine/have to wait weeks/months longer because someone else (not vulnerable) jumped the queue.
@MmeLarque

Of course it’s not good, but this is a mass vaccination programme, involving giving two jabs to literally tens of millions of people. There is no way to completely police the system without dramatically slowing it down. The more people that get vaccinated the safer we all are. So given this, some queue jumping just has to be lived with.

pinkearedcow · 22/03/2021 10:36

Yes, this is all very true. But being an unpaid carer is hard at times, so it rankles somewhat that people will pretend to be one to get the vaccine without having to experience the associated stresses and strains.

TransplantedScouser · 22/03/2021 10:38

Well I lied to get in early...

My BMI puts me into group 6 buyout my records were not updated correctly,

I phoned my GP who said they couldn't fix it as their systems were not modern ones but they could jab me themselves - however they couldn't book my second vaccine in advance - just told me they would call me 24 hours in advance. This does not work for me to fit it in around work,

So I used the online system to book at the vaccine hub where I could schedule vaccines 1 ans 2. This meant I had to tick unpaid carer as I was flagging up as not eligible as I'm only 44.

I played the system to fix the system

I've received a few whatsapps saying that (apparently) there is loads of spare capacity at vacc centres such as the Science Museum and "they are encouraging under 50s to sign up".

I thought it sounded like a load of bollox and I told the friends who sent it that I thought they were being selfish entitled pricks to go signing up (20s/30s no health concerns) when many older and more vulnerable ppl remain. Sure enough, the link to Science Museum bookings has been taken down since. I hope they are checking people are entitled to it there although once someone has fraudulently booked the appointment the damage is done really.

TransplantedScouser · 22/03/2021 10:45

@Lentillover1900

It didn't take long did it....

Yes I'm fat, its my own fault but I was eligible under the system.

TheJerkStore · 22/03/2021 10:46

There are some areas where the uptake of the vaccine is low which is worrying. People playing the system to get a vaccine isn't entirely a bad thing as at least they're keen to get it!

There was an army run pop up vaccination clinic near us at the weekend which was initially for those in priority groups but the uptake was so low that by the afternoon they were vaccinating anyone who wanted it - My 48 year old DH just turned up on the off chance as he was doing the supermarket shop next door and was vaccinated in minutes.

I had to use my NHS number to book mine. I assumed from that they could see I get carers allowance 🤷🏼‍♀️

FedNlanders · 22/03/2021 11:42

All will get it eventually anyway

If it's on the website and not via an invite from a GP, you can just click 'no' you don't know your NHS number and enter some other details instead. I don't think there's anything to 'check' bookings other than via age.
Comefromaway · 22/03/2021 16:25

There are different categories of carers. Those who care for someone who is CEV and those who receive carer's allowance can I believe book online. Other unpaid carers can be invited by their GP.

Dh and dd have been vaccinated as unpaid carers for mil and fil. Mil has dementia and cannot be left alone for even 5 minutes. Fil is struggling to cope with her and ended up in hospital himself last year. They registered as carers not to jump a vaccine queue, but to have something on record if they were ever questioned as to why they visit their house or why they come to our house to visit. For example on the day that fil had his vaccination dd had to bring mil to our house as she couldn't be left alone during that time.

Prior to covid they didn;t need this. We didn't realise just how much they both deteriorated over the first lockdown. The loss of mil's routine and seeing her friends/family and getting her hair done once a week made her regress and fil became unable to deal with her alone. when he was rushed into hospital we learnt just exactly what services were available (none) to help look after her.

So we feel no guilt.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 22/03/2021 16:29

I am surprised that the NHS number does not flag this up. A simple question would be to ask if the person you care for has had the vaccine.

I am 100% supportive of vaccinating anyone who has a vaccine that otherwise would not be used though.

Underhisi · 22/03/2021 17:26

"I am surprised that the NHS number does not flag this up. A simple question would be to ask if the person you care for has had the vaccine."

Under 16s don't get the vaccine but their parents can still be eligible as carers.

Shellycakes · 22/03/2021 17:41

You are definitely entitled as care of ASD kids. Regardless of what GP says ( they are wrong in their response) Phone 119 to book appointment at vaccine centre and just take copy of children’s DLA letter. I was very similar situation to you and that’s what I did - wasn’t a problem and you ARE entitled in group 6.

BrownbearK · 22/03/2021 17:41

Unfortunately it is true! My brother and sister in law have done exactly the same thing by saying they are carers for our mum (she’s just staying with them!) i personally think it’s absolutely disgraceful! However i’m not particularly surprised by them and their actions!

BiscoffAnythingIsTheWayForward · 22/03/2021 17:42

I am a carer for my youngest who has autism. I was invited via a local charity that supports families with children that have disabilities, as our local NHS trust had excess vaccines and if I or my husband were to contract Covid, this would be detrimental, particularly to him. I still had to prove I was a carer by producing my sons diagnosis and proof of his DLA. It should be the same in every trust. People jumping the queue just because they see a loophole is so wrong.

KisstheTeapot14 · 22/03/2021 17:44

I spoke to my GP about this a couple of weeks ago (appointment for a review of prescriptions anyway). He said the Gov had just changed the goal posts from carer to carer to someone CV. We discussed my risk factors - CFS, BMI not ideal and carer for child with disabilities (I had written to them about that so they had already flagged I was a carer although because I work I don't get carer's allowance. I'm in my 40's.

He said the staff at the surgery were going through records manually and flagging up priority groups not yet done. Quite a big job - and sometimes hard when info not up to date (e.g. person might not have been weighed for years at docs).

He said wait a week and then ring. I didn't want to hassle so I didn't call but the system worked as last Tues I got an invite and had my vaccine on Saturday. Am so relieved. As someone with an underlying chronic health condition whose grip on health is somewhat precarious - Covid might realistically have polished me off. I was really impressed with how smoothly it all ran once I was there.

Sadly there are probably a small minority of people gaming the system but hopefully most doctor's surgeries are wise to people who want to push in. It's sad that people might be going in front of teachers and police. They are in the danger zone daily. Did see police entering a house in lockdown sans masks mind you! Good example there.

Things are going so quickly now - a few selfish people won't make too much difference - can't be too long before most people have had a jab.
